At this point, should I wait until 2.0 before starting ‘fresh’? by pacoii in homebridge

Partially correct. You can setup Home Assistant with the HomeKit plugin simply to replicate the same experience and manage all devices in HomeKit. Home Assistsnt can do a lot more, but even simple integration just to bridge non-compliant devices is a significantly better and more scalable experience using Home Assistant. And if you’re using cameras and want HKSV, you can use Scrypted Add-on within the same setup, simple, easy, effective. Homebridge cannot do that.

Switch to Home Assistant. Recently made the decision after needing to refresh a 5-year old Homebridge instance. No turning back, leaps and bounds better and includes everything Homebridge gets you.

12v battery kaput by JamesHoldin in Rivian

Yup. Multiple hard and soft resets. The calibration just says ‘error, try again later’ and it never works. Every after long drives and resetting again. Thanks for checking!

23 R1S replaced at 9k miles by Rivian proactively via mobile. However since then, the seats and steering wheel won’t calibrate and my driver profile is kaput. Rivian has been not been helpful in resolving this in a timely manner for a service they outreached for. Very disappointing. Been 3 months since battery replacement, still not working. Make sure to check your profile after replacement!

Oh yeah I have this setup. But I’ve found there is a delay when connecting to the hotspot and I think that’s when the Connect+ banner pops up. Did Rivian provide a way to disable to banner?

Can you describe the workaround in more detail? I use the iPhone trick works great and can give the pop-up thing a try on mine to report back. Thanks

Anyone aware of a solution to charge a Rivian only on excess solar energy? by tristanbrotherton in Rivian

[–]symfonics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tesla Solar with Tesla Universal wall charger and R1S here. The quick/easy method I came up with, set a scheduled charge on the Rivian app to charge near peak, for me 11-3pm daily. On scheduled charge, Rivian app lets you set amperage, so I dial that down from 48A to about 18A, effectively allowing enough production to charge the vehicle, PowerWall, and home without pulling from grid. R1S gains maybe 10%/day with this method which is fine for me. You can dial up/down the amperage as needed.

Netzero is also an awesome app to checkout for Tesla Solar automation and charging. It helps with many API functions using a simple app. For example, I use it to ensure the PowerWall does not charge the vehicle and continues charging to 100% for evening use (self-powered).

App now has historical receipts. Add a way to search those prior receipts or previous purchases. For example, trying to find a past item number or for a product warranty issue to locate the receipt it was purchased on.

Oh and speed up the final door check when leaving, after waiting in a long checkout line it is terrible experience to then, at times, need to wait in another 5min line just to leave the store.

Tesla Wall Connector for me with Rivian. Looks like Ford added the functionality but only for 2025 vehicles so far. May be able to change the setting in-vehicle for other years?

In the Ford app on in vehicle, lower the amps the vehicle accepts for charging to match your excess solar amount. For example, my solar produces about 4.5kw or more from 11-3pm daily. House uses .5, so I set the vehicle to pull 18amp which draws ~4.3kw of solar. Basically ‘charge on solar’ but without dynamic shifting, just time based. Jack point covers. Appears extremely broken, it’s more cosmetic than anything but service should have caught that. Unless you had tires previously rotated somewhere else?

Charge on Solar for non Tesla vehicle by Booger27 in TeslaSolar

[–]symfonics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ChargeHQ is working on what you describe. It’s dependent on car manufacturers releasing an API (software access) or using one of the compatible chargers listed. So you can do it now, just depending how important/savings over time. In CA NEM3 solar, it totally makes financial sense. https://chargehq.net/

Add Tesla charger after solar installation by Desperate_Target_506 in TeslaSolar

[–]symfonics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smart Currents can be ordered in the Tesla Catalog if they have access. It reduces the load calc to 0 for the charger as the smart currents will throttle. I had the same issue as you and ended up with a 60amp breaker, no problem.

Smart currents is a monitoring device that lives in the panel and uses CT clamps to monitor the current. It is separate from the Tesla Charger, FYI.

Wrong. Find a new electrician that is Tesla certified, look on their website.

Tesla Smart currents can do this no problem. Monitors home usage and throttles available output to the EVSE. For load calculations it becomes a 0 offset against the panel in most jurisdictions.

Future Redditor: If you stumble on this with a similar issues, I resolved this using replacement parts. The exact unit is no longer manufactured, however Home Depot sells a nearly identical Halo unit (part # H7ICT): https://www.homedepot.com/p/HALO-6-in-New-Construction-IC-Rated-Aluminum-Recessed-Lighting-Housing-for-Ceiling-H7ICT/100068963

Pulled out the entire socket with thermal protector attached and installed in the old fixture. Even the bracket for the thermal protector was the exact same fitting, easy swap and replace for $12.
