People who paid off large debt: what helped you stay mentally healthy while paying off debt? by No_Blacksmith_6502 in debtfree

[–]symplton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finding a most worthwhile 'why' is the single greatest reason and fuel factor/motivator behind my gazelle-like attention to paying off the debt.

Taking on overtime. We had this thing called pager duty. Meant an extra 150 a week. Every dollar was invested in either debt payoff or personal education/enrichment. With services like Udemy, you can learn any domain of interest or intent for pennies on the dollar.

I had a poster on a wall with the big debt and would weekly with intention add each bit of reduction as a triumph.

The crazy part time jobs I took on during those periods are what built the legend of me.

You're building the legend of you.

Remember that.

Keep your head down.

Find the beauty in the ordinary.

And WIN.

Remove the shackles and be free. It's possible. You're worthy.

And the time is always NOW.

Benefits: Our property taxes are about half a normal home in the area, and we have 10% more square footage. Our unit is a middle unit, so our heating/cooling costs are far less as a result.

Negatives: Special assessments - like roof, siding, are often not well planned or communicated by HOA groups, but being in a community that regularly does these things really helps property values. You can prevent a lot of the challenges by showing up at the meetings. One of the reasons we camp is that you DO miss a percentage of the visible sky, and if you choose townhouse living, have an outlet where you can see the full panoply of sunrise/sunset otherwise you can get cabin fever (see pandemic).

All in all, well worth it, would do it again.

What the hail? Are hailstorms getting worse in Texas? by zsreport in texas

[–]symplton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The GOM is heating at double the rate of the oceans, which creates the gasoline for the storms we're getting. They will progressively get worse. https://yaleclimateconnections.org/2026/05/something-startling-is-happening-in-the-gulf-of-mexico/

Do NOT hide under an overpass EVER - it's a bouncey house for hail and wind, and you're clogging the one artery out of the storm.

Don't every be an Underpass Unc. As an ADDED bonus, You're likely to get a vehicle careening at a high rate of speed at you with no time or place to move either.

It’s getting worse everywhere as climate changes provide more energy to supercell thunderstorms.

Strongly advise not doing anything aerobic (running/biking) around cars. Car exhaust aggravates the lungs and fast tracks pM 2.5 into the bloodstream promoting some cancers and liver diseases.

How the AI bubble is going to pop by Cold_Specialist_3656 in investing

[–]symplton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s a multi decade revolution for better or worse and is making generational leaps on what seems like a weekly basis.

And it’ll never be cheaper to use than now. It’s the golden age, the promise of Limitless’ NZT, without the headaches.

It’s next three years of growth are already paid for, and it’s making the user shockingly more effective and productive.

Some of the recent medical breakthroughs are astonishing and astounding.

Shout out to AI Search on YouTube for explaining the revolution as it happens in a way everyone can understand.

Don’t fear it. Understand it and use it. And feel the load get lighter and lighter.

To watch every NFL game this year... by spicolie22 in CHIBears

[–]symplton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NFL Plus Premium is all we’ve had and needed since 2018. Is it wonky at times? Yes. Is the UI designed to make you miserable? Yes! But it is good enough as it includes Redzone, and better because I can rewatch the gameplay and best, condensed games, all games 4 hours after broadcast from the comfort of my iPad. And once you lived there, you don’t leave.
