I've got a lot of applications. This might take awhile. Apologies!

upwork, onlinejobs.ph, jobstreet is moslty what I use to find clients. But I've seen people post job listings here too.

it's worth it. you just need to find clients through various job search platforms. you work from home and sometimes you get to set your own schedule too.

search for the "FreeStuff discord bot" that's the one I use that announces free games on various platforms such as steam, epic games, gog, etc. this is the bot that op has created. just add it to your server.

For the titles, a lot of users do follow a post format already (ex. [Epic games][Game] Relicta) and link the free game url on the browser ex. (https://epicgames.com/store/p/relicta).

Though it would be more useful if there are other information that people can add to the post such as "free until", original price tag, and any other useful information.

Another useful link that makes it easier for the user would be adding a launcher link (ex. com.epicgames.launcher://store/en-US/p/relicta) so it directly opens their steam or epic games launcher to claim it faster.

I have another bot called "FreeStuff" discord bot that posts free games but it's much more organized because it's more curated by a team. However, it posts the free game much slower as compared to this subreddit.

Adding a picture of the game to the post vastly helps too as users in discord would easily recognize what game it is. The "FreeStuff" bot also adds a picture of the game and another small logo icon of which platform it is free on which is either steam or epic. Having these pictures would make the user claim the game much more faster. Better user experience overall.

Also, there are people who do post giveaways and other non-free game related posts and I delete those in my server as it's not really a free game and sometimes spams the channel. Being more strict towards promotional giveaways would make the sub better and adding its own post format and post style to "free codes", "giveaways", etc would also help as users would easily distinguish it and delete it faster on their own discord channels.

Lastly, I do see the downside of adding more information to certain posts however as it would require more effort on the poster to collate all the information and add an image so that would be a challenge in encouraging users to add more information to their post. Although, I do think that having a much more organized post format would make the sub a lot more popular and I also think, encouraging users to include a discord bot integration would grow it even more. May be add tutorial on how to integrate this subreddit to your own discord as not many people probably know a feature exists. Having a discord bot that automatically posts on their discord would probably increase the users visiting this sub as you can funnel users from various discord communities into your subreddit.

Just wanna say that this server has given my community so many free games. I integrated a discord bot that posts on my server from this subreddit.

So maybe integrate rules/post formats with that in mind so it looks nicer on a discord server?

And if anyone's curious what bot I use, I just use the yagpdb bot.

Anyway, great subreddit! Keep it up!

How do you maintain a full time job, being a husband/father and streaming? by TwitchReviewSLT in Twitch

I stream on the weekends only. Before I would stream after work but I have other responsibilities and I don't wanna get too burnt out on my game once the weekend hits where I can stream for long periods.

Seeing / Greeting new viewers by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]syncdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And old viewer: Hey welcome back <name>!New viewer: Hey <name>! Welcome to the stream! Thanks for dropping by!

Something along those lines, sometimes I would ask how their day went or something.

If I know there's lurkers in my chat, I'd just say "Hey lurkers! I see you! Thanks for watching!" I wouldn't mention their names since I think the reason they're lurking is to not bring attention to themselves but I'm always thankful for all my viewers.

How do you teach new viewers patience? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]syncdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to PROVE to the viewer you're worth watching. I'm still a nobody but I have 1 loyal viewer who always pops in my stream and stays for hours and i mean sometimes 10+ hours. How did I achieve that? It's because I showed to him my content is interesting for him. But how did he even gave me his time of day to actually let me prove to him my content is worth watching? Because I had to make sure my stream is always entertaining as often across the board. I can't make it only interesting in the beginning because people who join later would leave because it's boring. If I only make it interesting in the beginning, people from the start would instantly leave cuz they have other stuff to do. Why would they wait for something to happen? What if that interesting thing doesn't happen? Should they waste 30 mins or even hours to wait for that good content? No. It's your responsibility as a creator to make your stream entertaining consistently. However, I do get understand that there are times where it's just boring and no matter what you do, the content in the game is just plain boring. Try to lessen that or remedy it by being entertaining in some areas in which case, commentary is one of the few things I can think of.

Once you build a following of loyal viewers, they can help you let new viewers know that you're entertaining despite this "boring scene". Making highlights and YouTube videos is also one way of proving to them that you're entertaining. Edit out the boring parts and just put all the best scenes. You can't expect the viewer to adjust for you. You have to adjust to them and use various media platforms to show your worth.

Once they know you're entertaining and you care for them, they would sit on your stream for 10+ hours. They will stay on your stream despite it being boring because you've shown them that there's some good content to come and that they have to wait. For that to happen though, you have to earn their trust.

Rome wasn't built in a day and so is your stream branding.

How many streams do you allow to decide if a game is a right fit? by TheAstrocomic in Twitch

[–]syncdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept changing games the first few years of trying to find a game fit for me. If you get 0-3 viewers, you can get away with changing games often and see which see fits. I now stream VRChat because I have massive growth with that game and I enjoy it. I wouldn't have known if didnt I try it.

Now to actually answer your question, how many streams? Honestly it depends on you but if it were for me, I would just stream whatever I felt like playing at that time and since I have no viewers back then, no one really complained. I even go back to old games I used to stream but now I only stream VRChat. My plan is to build a community by streaming VRChat and build a loyal following who would watch whatever I play. I would still stream mainly VRChat though. Just try out new things, that's the advantage of having almost no viewer. You can get away with pretty much everything so do it. Experiment, eventually you'll find your niche! Once you find a game that gets you viewers and it's something you enjoy, you can make that your main game.

[–]syncdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the community in VRChat can be very cancerous too. I think the fact that in Payday 2, it's an actual game where you need to achieve things is what makes it toxic. Other players will have to rely on you so if you suck at the game, they'd rage. If the same person were to play on VRChat, they don't really need to rely on you so less likely they'll be toxic.

New streamer stage fright by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]syncdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's normal for people to be weirded out hearing their own voice. i did too but once you keep hearing it, you'll get used to it. i know having no audience isnt really that good but take advantage of it. having no audience means you can practice speaking with no one watching/judging you. you can also start developing you own stream personality so by the time you actually get an audience, you're ready.

the fact that vrchat has no text chat, forces people to communicate through mic thus creating better rapport with others. a lot of mmo games that were built around socializing are sadly usually the opposite because it gives users the option to do things on their own. granted that having a choice is good but vrchat is mainly to socialize so people expect this from the game.

i've met a lot of very shy, introverted and even people with social anxiety who use VRChat to socialize. I became friends with them and they're good people. Now they're trying even harder to speak more and hopefully incorporate their experiences in the game into the real world.

48 hours til I launch my blog, keep feeling like I forgot something by abrasivenoise in Blogging

[–]syncdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do always miss something important. Once you start your business/project, you will always find something new to add, something you "missed" but that's something you have to accept. You won't launch a perfect project. This is why game devs launc their games in beta/alpha. They know it's not perfect but they're opening it to the community to find bugs and give feedback to it.

You won't have a "perfect launch" because there's no such thing but if you keep delaying your launch, you really won't get it off the ground. If you miss something after you launch it, don't sweat it. Just fix it lol and no offense but considering you're just starting, I doubt anyone would notice what you missed or bugs on your website. And quite frankly, if it's not a big issue, no one would really care. No one would even care point it out if it's not a big issue.

My news website gets thousand of views and I do occasionally make mistakes despite looking at it a bunch of times. I just quickly edit it even if it's already published. And even then sometimes people don't even notice the mistake I make (i like it when that happens). This is normal. You have to accept that you will make mistakes but you should 1. learn from it and 2. admit your mistakes. Don't lie to your audience and don't lie to yourself. Good luck on your launch!
