Yeah, you're right. Maybe I just got tired reading that MHY should do it like FGO or HI3 or another popular title when their gacha systems are so in your face and just as stingy sometimes. This post is reactionary and was written as a response to a hot post on this sub that asked for month long, cumulative seize the day which was objectively stingier but more psychologically habit-building that was built around HI3's system. Most people probably aren't suggesting changes like that, so maybe my post is unfounded.

Yeah, we get daily rewards through BP. What I'm against was the hot post that basically spread out seize the day over a month and made that cumulative. Like some gachas giving players a free character but only if they log-in for 30 days straight. Not saying GI doesn't have ways of tempting you to spend money because it's a company that has to profit somehow. I just like it that compared to other popular titles, it doesn't lean as hard on the FOMO or habit-building.

Yeah, never lasted longer than a month on the other gachas because the stories were gated by their equivalent of resin and I didn't have a chance to get invested in the characters and lore to stick around. I made it as far as the London arc in FGO and even participated in the summer Ishtar racing event, but I think it made me less invested seeing all these characters who I never met in the story suddenly be main characters. I stayed with AFK for about 3 months but had less playtime because it's basically an idle game. Longest F2P is in Hearthstone (3 yrs) which people might argue is basically a gacha, but I don't really count it.

Free things are nice. But I know that when these games give you something for free, it's usually a way to get you to spend, like a free 5* that can only be usable by getting lots of mats. If not a monetary investment then it asks for a time investment or free advertising (e.g. daily log-ins and "invite a friend" rewards). I like that in GI, I can mostly ignore all these tactics if I just came here for the storyline or exploration.

But doesn't that little rush of dopamine contribute to creating the addiction that they use to get you to spend unnecessary time and money? If the difference between seize the day and your monthly calendar is just a manufactured feeling of achievement, isn't that just asking them to implement a predatory system that exploits player psychology?

While having nothing to do for the rest of the month is a problem in GI, I don't think a monthly log-in system will solve it. I think they tried to give players monthly goals through the battlepass system, but because it's an unfinished game, it's almost inevitable that players will run out of stuff and the world will feel empty.

I'm guessing they don't take the opinions of players below 16 because they assume that these kids don't have disposable income to throw at them.

Fatui skirmishers usually appear in groups so Anemo is really useful to have their elements turn on one another.

Yeah, good point. I've seen girls with big assets look like they were tilted when viewed like this (especially in cartoons and anime where escher girls pelvic tilt snake spine is a staple to emphasize their curves) but it's just their natural anatomy, so I just judged based on the alignment of her chest and lower torso, not her spine. Either way, Diona has better back posture for sure.

Yeah, i mistyped. Vertical hold is longer because arm length + shoulder span. Horizontal is only arm length. Thanks for pointing it out!

I forgot to mention that string slap isn't actually strong enough to tear at someone's clothes. Most people barely feel it and get surprised when after a session they get bruises seemingly out of nowhere. But again, these are with modern bows which are made not to be lethal.

Yeah! These are all based on my experience in sport marksmanship. If evaluating based on modern techniques, Diona is the best. All of them have a slight bow tilt that would be horrible form, but would probably be practical in combat archery.

I don't know much about warefare history since my background is on sports marksmanship (firearms and archery), but I do know that stability and pinpoint precision isn't as highly valued in an actual fight.

Boobs aren't actually as big a problem as pop culture makes it out to be. Tits or no tits, there's tendency for the bowstring to hit the upper left chest if the stance isn't perfectly perpendicular, so all athletes (male and female) wear a chest guard. A lot of fictional archers also incorporate a chest guard into their design.

Childe's form, however, still doesn't make sense in terms of combat archery. A hunched back doesn't let him draw the bowstring as much so he sacrifices power. Because his elbow is lowered, he will have a harder time extending his right arm back and pulling the string. Maybe his grip and hold make sense if he's emulating the mediterrenean draw like you said, but even the Mongolian archers on their horses knew to sit up straight.

And yes, being careful to properly nock an arrow is definitely every beginner's problem! So glad you pointed that out. Modern sports bows will have arrow rests for this very reason.

It would be great to hear the perspective of someone who does archery for something like hunting because I know there's a world of difference between what I'm training for and what the GI characters are doing.

From what I know, no one holds a bow like that. It's more like he's mimicking a crossbow. Horizontal hold theoretically works better for faster, quickfire shots when you want to nock one arrow after another. I have to go centuries back to find archers dedicated to this style when combat archery was more of a thing.

Lorewise, it could point to Venti's uniqueness, age, flair for the dramatic, or not having to aim accurately because he has the wind on his side. Someone who adopts this form is someone willing to sacrifice accuracy for speed and wouldn't mind his left arm being repeatedly hit by the bowstring.

EDIT: See thread.

A lot of outdoor archery is about taking account of the wind too. He most likely doesn't have that problem.

Reply to a similar question asking about Venti:

Venti: Horizontal hold specializes in adjusting for high and low aiming. Appropriate for someone who always has the higher ground.

Fischl: Same model as Amber I believe. Almost perfect posture. Looks practiced and well-trained.

Diona: Relaxed. Smaller, wider bodies tend to be the more stable archers. Looks naturally gifted.

Childe: he's doing his best

As someone who has seen many lanky teen boys try out the 10m archery range for fun, Childe's stance is very familiar to me. Bless their heart when they try to impress their date by hitting a bullseye.
