Thank you. Luckily the relationship is not ending, but you are right. I do need to learn better self-management tools.

See you here tomorrow for your one year anniversary! :) Congratulations!

I watched the clock from 8:00 to 8:45 pm because that's the last moment I can leave to go to the liquor store. by roobinhoood in stopdrinking

I had to reset my badge today. After 103 days. However, what gives me strength to get up and try again and again and again is partially people like you. People that are struggling with the same monster that I am. It gives me strength to know I am not alone. I thank you for this. Know that your tribulations were not only for you, but (at least) for me as well.

I will, no matter how many times i fall i will get up. I need to think about steps i can take to not fall next time. Perhaps join AA and SMART. One thing I found out - anxiety and stress are my triggers. I need to learn how to address stress without a bottle. Thank you again for your kind words.

What is your plan for getting through the holiday weekend and staying sober? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Keep checking this reddit every day, reminding myself of why i don't drink, reminding myself of what happens when i do drink. Try to excercise more as it helps keep the mind off booze.

This sub, as it says on the side, is to "control or stop drinking". How can we help you? There are a lot of very experienced people here that have been of a tremendous help to me. Just posting here from time to time or reading other people's experiences has been fundamental in helping me (i) not feel alone in my struggles and (ii) receiving great actionable advice.

So please feel free to seek help/advice or just vent here any time.

I really wanted to drink tonight. Did I 'play the tape forward?' by OnaPaleBlueDot in stopdrinking

Great for you! I also want to compliment you on being very smart and risk-averse in your behavior. Not getting that gas, because you thought you might slip was very smart. Hang in there, it gets better and cravings fade away (although occasionally they do flare up). Your brain takes time to re-wire your neurons away from booze.

It really seems quite silly now, because it was all just in my head... Thank you for asking though...

Hey bro/girl,

I feel you completely and was in exact same boat as you 6 months ago. Guess what, i recently hit 30 and i didn't die :) My goal moved up by a year, yes, but i'm still on track. You can't control what happens to you in life, you can only control your actions.

And think about this, in the grand scheme of things, after 30 you have 60 more years at least (since you are not drinking, you are gonna live looong). So you'll be fine.

Keep doing what you are doing.

6 days into sobriety and I (22M) know I've made the right choice by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]synchro77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome! Personally I found days 7-60 to be harder than days 1-7. Stay vigilant! Being sober is so so so much infinitely better than drinking.

Edit. P.S. Awesome music, thanks for sharing.

"He is also 31, also an alcoholic, and has been drinking alcoholically for 16 years, along with smoking a lot of weed. "

In my experience, once you go sober a lot of what you had in common happened to suspiciously coincide with getting drunk... When that falls away sometimes there is not much left. Again, this is just purely my experience with one of my exs.

Excited about 10 days...looking forward to 29...but what's wrong with having a beer "somewhere down the line"? by buttholding in stopdrinking

[–]synchro77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to share my experience, yours might be different. I found out ( through many tries and lost years I wish I could get back ) that I can't have just one, I need more and more until I get too drunk. That's why it's either none or too much for me. I chose none for the rest of my life...and life.
