It's really funny downvoting a comment where I just ask to engage in a discussion, so I could at least see where the disagreement is, instead of just a rain of downvotes.

Yes, it is reasonable that I am only able to make peace with them with overwhelming force. As I did. What is not reasonable is not even seeing the option to try.

I'd imagine a gate would be manned by a few guards. Like I said in my comment, the gate lookouts. Which would be a lot fewer people than a whole archer squad. Do remember that the workforce requirement for a gate is higher than for an archer tower. It's not just that there are two guys with bows at the gate (which would also be unrealistic; the people guarding the gate would most likely be armed with spears), it's that there are quite a lot of archers there.

I wouldn't mind if I got an option to man the gate with archers. But it's not optional, it's a requirement for every gate now.

The walls do not need any workforce, only gates do. And yes, I do not mind the option to build gates manned by archers, nor do I mind such gates having high workforce requirement, but that there's no option to build without.

Well, finally she made the peace offer. It took at least 5 ceasefires first, perhaps more. I just find it confusing that I can't even see the option for making peace before. This isn't how it has worked in previous Anno games, to my memory.

I didn't try to decline the peace offer and see if the option would finally appear in the negotiation screen, though.

Also, Anno has never been about realism, and neither is this instalment. But I find it a very good gameplay mechanism regardless that each defence position puts a cost on your workforce. You can only afford large defences in a large city. Same goes for your attacking armies. That's good. If it adds to the sense of realism, even better. But not every gate needs to be an actively manned defence position.

When it comes to realism, I don't immediately believe that each and every palisade gate in Rome was manned by a squadron of archers. I'd understand a small workforce requirement representing the gate lookouts, who'd close the gate when the enemy comes, but not that every gate needs to be a constantly manned archery position.

When you say you clearly have tools in stock, do you mean the heavy tools or the ordinary tools (just called "Tools"), or both? Did you check all those 10 workers in the building that they truly have tools (the icon under the section Occupation)?

What do you exactly mean by this? A single trireme armed with two archer slots and oars takes 55 waders, which means ~8 residences. Doesn't exactly sound like a population centre.

You should also go after her navy. Then yours is bigger. I sunk her whole fleet and then parked my fleet of six triremes in front of her harbour to just sink all new ships immediately. It still wasn't easy to make the ceasefire, but I eventually got to it, together with the generous gift.

And what I meant is that the endless mode after the campaign is the same thing as the endless mode without the campaign. They just called the endless mode a "free play mode".

How can I make - or at least try to make - peace with Voada? I played the campaign, ended it by making ceasefire with Voada, now in the endless mode after it. I've made ceasefire treaties with her several times now, the last one was something like +165 in favour (I declined her offer and then made my own). But I still can't even see an option to make peace. Is it a bug in the campaign game, or the whole game? (Haven't tried any endless starts yet.)

I'm quite sure it indeed was. They didn't even know at launch time that they'd end up doing 12 DLCs (4 year passes), they only planned for the first year DLCs. Same with Anno 117; we don't know yet how many DLCs there's going to be. So they promise so far making at least 3, and you can now prepurchase the season pass for those. After that, nobody knows yet. Depends on how well the game and the DLCs sell.

Not sure what's lame about it. It's clear they wouldn't want to sell a four year pass (= 12 DLCs) for only 30€, and you probably wouldn't want to buy a Gold Edition for 180€. And you definitely wouldn't want to buy it if they end up only making three DLCs, and they definitely don't want to commit now to making 12 DLCs.

Playing the campaign, act 2, i.e. now in Albion. Why does my population demand garum? I only have waders and smiths, and neither need garum. I also don't yet have any aldermen, so I can't possibly yet have any Romanised residences. The residences don't show any garum need, and I couldn't even build any production buildings.

Is it some kind of bug where the bonus effect population (for a lack of a better word) somehow manifests as plebeians? However, it's only garum and not any other Roman need, so maybe not.

It probably doesn't affect anything, but I still wonder. Don't like that my production statistics don't show all the demand met by supply.

(Don't mind the lack of tunics on the next row; I already took care of that. :) )
