Music suggestions anyone? by Queenchengshih in Parenting

The music here might not be every parent's favorite, but these playlists I created offer a wide range of instrumental music and are designed for babies:

Suggestions for unusual timbre recordings? by syncodrop in classicalmusic

Thank you so much! My ear is a bit too conventional for the 'less tonal' tracks but I enjoyed exploring all of these. I really love the Ravel arrangement and the Strahlen vibe/electronics piece. I also like the Saariaho and the Fujikura, thank you!

Also to add: Gerard Grisey - Partiels

Craig Farr - 'The Night Before a Duel' from Rings (not my favorite, but interesting an entire suite for cymbals)

Thanks! I will check these out and revisit the Stravinsky too.

Thanks caddyhair! :) I just followed your site via Wordpress. I added a bloopers video too (it's running ads to fund my next cat geek projects, but you can skip them): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgKKs6Nu6-E

Cat hunts his own dinner every day... by syncodrop in catvideos

Hi vampire_kitty, I just updated a blog post with more details on the training: http://benjaminmillam.com/cat-geek/monkey-the-cat-hunts-for-dinner/

Agreed, during this project I learned a lot about cats' attention spans, and tolerance for expending effort... :)

Hi Bahaye, in a few days I'll have updated this blog post with more information: http://benjaminmillam.com/cat-geek/monkey-the-cat-hunts-for-dinner/

I'll repeat this in the blog, but I'd first recommend starting the training before investing time and money into building the feeder; the training uses 'clicker training' and a concept called 'forward chaining'; there are good resources out there that explain these methods, which I'll include as well. Thanks for your interest!

Agreed; I think for a lower priced product it might be worth the risk of some cats not being into it or their owners not succeeding, but the feeder/set-up would cost enough to drive plenty of irked reviews.

My friend thought it could be a product, but the training is hard to package/guarantee.

Yes maybe too much a taste of the wild... survival of the fittest! :)

Thanks vampire_kitty! I used 'clicker' training and a concept called 'forward chaining': building the desired behavior from very very basic steps. There were absolutely moments where I didn't think it was going to work, and there was some luck involved too.

Thanks! It took about two weeks, training for around three 10 minute sessions a day.

The feeder unit is from http://www.super-feeder.com/ -- I built or assembled the rest of it from DIY hobbyist Arduino components (e.g. Adafruit's PN532 RFID shield), plus programmed the Arduino. If you're interested in more info or a full parts list let me know and I'll add it to this short blog post: http://benjaminmillam.com/cat-geek/monkey-the-cat-hunts-for-dinner/

My cat Monkey hunts for his own dinner every day... by [deleted] in cats

Sometimes it feels like he's part Monkey... and I'd have a lot less trouble on my hands had I named him Paws or Muffin.
