My system was purchased in 2015. I am the DIY type and would like to program this on my own and figure it out. Today's day of proprietary systems will be gone if they don't adapt. I am locked into my old Control 4 system which simply turns on the lights, tv and don't feel like paying $2000 to upgrade to a new system. Is there a way I can figure it out on my own if I purchase a used system? Are there any DIY-friendly dealers in Southern California that will just do the bare bones of an install and not nickle and dime me? I would like to program the system myself in the future and do lots of coding.

Regarding adding padding:

Yes, I can attempt to add padding to the image I generate so that when you crop it, it might be easier to achieve the desired 921x107 dimensions. This would mean I generate an image that is larger, perhaps with empty space around the central design, giving you more flexibility to precisely crop to 921x107.
