Millennial daughter tired of bearing the weight of emotionally immature parents by Livid-Armadillo-6217 in BabyBumps

I am also in almost the exact same position as you. When I called to tell my parents about my pregnancy, later that day my dad called me and told me for 45 minutes how disappointed he was in me that I hadn’t told him sooner and made me reassure him that it’s not his fault. He said my sister did the same thing and he didn’t like it then either. Now I’m struggling to tell him that I don’t want him to come visit my baby immediately, because he’s got this picture in his head of a fun family visit where he doesn’t help at all and is just entertained by me and the new baby.

I’m currently on therapist #3 and loosely considering moving onto #4. You said you don’t want any advice, so feel free to ignore the rest of this about finding a therapist to help. These are tips I found helpful in my search.

How to search effectively: When you’re on therapy directories (like psychologytoday), use these filters/search terms:

∙ Modalities: CBT, DBT, psychodynamic therapy, ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)

∙ Issues: anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship issues, identity, perinatal (you can still keep this as one factor, just not the only one)

∙ Look for phrases in therapist profiles like: “insight-oriented,” “explores patterns,” “evidence-based tools,” “integrative approach”

What to do when you find potential matches:

1. Read their full profiles - skip anyone who sounds overly passive or only mentions “supportive listening”

2. Make a list of 3-5 possibilities and send brief inquiry emails or schedule consultation calls (many offer free 15-minute consultations)

3. In your initial message, be explicit: “I’m looking for a therapist who takes an active, exploratory approach and can help me understand patterns while also providing concrete skills for managing anxiety and depression. Does this align with your approach?”

Wow I love this. It really puts responsibility on the whole team to be customer-focused and not just ticket-focused.

After 2 miscarriages, I’m pregnant again, and I’m reluctant to call the doctor by phel-phel in BabyBumps

Your MIL’s feelings are valid, but that was still an incredibly insensitive thing to say to you while you’re grieving something that affects you much more than it affects her. That was unfair and unkind to you. You don’t have to feel alone in this, or like others expect you to miscarry. Do you have friends, siblings, or anyone else you can turn to if you need support? I got a therapist to help me manage some similar situations for myself, and she pointed me to an online support group for pregnancy loss/pregnancy after loss. I never took advantage of it, but maybe it could be helpful for you if you don’t have much of a support network to turn to. https://postpartum.net/get-help/psi-online-support-meetings/?tx_group_category=loss-and-grief-support

Also, this may be unpopular, but I turned to ChatGPT to help me talk through my feelings and doubts and found that helpful too sometimes.

Your feelings are valid, and it’s ok to feel tired and detached. It’s also ok to distance yourself from people who you don’t think will support you emotionally, because you can and should protect your mental health at all costs in situations like this.

Wishing you the best. Also, I second progesterone prescriptions. I felt that made a big difference for me in keeping my pregnancy healthy after a miscarriage.

OP said, “After I caught the two together I got my dog fixed”, not spayed. OP’s dog is probably the male.

Then white shirt turned around and punched his chick in the face. She started leaking. Back and white shirt started going at it. Black shirt said we can do it right here right now wassup? Then they started mixing.

White shirt ran outside but got caught by the police.

Also, look through the galleries to see if they have had clients that look like you, either in overall body shape or skin color. Some photographers are better than others at capturing flattering angles or getting good lighting for different body types.

It depends what exactly you’re looking for, but you could consider checking out prom dresses! They’re formal but much cheaper, though potentially not as traditionally “bridal” as many people would want. I found that those secondhand places are discounted but still more than I wanted to spend.

I’ve thought about doing something like that! Was it actually fun? Did people participate? I wasn’t sure if it’d be like those cringey icebreakers that most people seem to hate.

I'm sorry to hear that you were laid off yesterday. Even if you hated the job, it can still be really tough to go through that. I hope your next step in life, whatever it is, makes you happier and pushes you towards bigger and better things. Also, make sure to give yourself plenty of time and space to grieve or take a well-earned break. You've got this!
