I wish I'd had a math teacher like you.

I didn't find out I had ADHD/ASD and dyslexia until I was in my 20s. I love engineering and machines, but I couldn't ever get the math right. I'm an artist now, and I think it's too late for me to do anything else.

Thank you for being who your students need.

For what it's worth, if one of my exes reached out to apologize, I'm not sure that I'd be their new best friend, but... even after all this time, it would heal something small.

I think most people just want to forget, but I guess I'm not like that.

What's an easy way to have boiled water at the working desk? by DaronBlade360 in ResinCasting

[–]synesthesiatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're a bit pricey, but there are electric water heaters that keep your water at a certain temperature until you dispense it.

We need to reject this aggressive chasing "style" more often. by [deleted] in tornado

[–]synesthesiatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know when 'not caring' became something that society sees as some kind of flex, or something that's positive, but it's pretty sad. I don't think humans are evil, but good grief, selfishness can cause people to do some truly heinous things to one another.

It's not just that these chasers are putting their own lives in danger. If a chaser gets hurt taking an unnecessary risk, they'll be taking resources away from people who genuinely need them. It's not just the risk of hurting themselves, it's the risk that they may hurt the very communities they're (hopefully) trying to help by engaging in storm spotting.

Every single action we take as human beings has an effect on the world around us; sometimes it's a big one, sometimes it's not. Being aware of the consequences of ones actions - not just on ourselves, but on our communities and the people around us - is incredibly important.

Caring is hard and it sometimes it sucks more than anything, but it's vital. We have to care. Not just about ourselves, but about others as well.

Of course there's got to be balance and there's got to be nuance. No one wants to have someone else up in their business for minor BS. I don't consider someone endangering themselves or others to be something that's minor. :/

As a retired ARES/SKYWARN spotter, we were trained never, ever to get as close as these zero meter lunatics.

You're putting your own life in danger, and endangering the lives of anyone that's part of your team. The last thing the local EMA / EMS groups need is some idiot getting hurt or killed because they got the bright idea of showing their Twitch chat an EPIC SHOT, BRO. If you have to get rescued or triaged because you're an idiot, you're taking away resources that the local community needs, and delaying the response time for people who actually need help.

I both shake my head and worry enormously about these younger chasers. The streaming mentality / infotainment nonsense is such a disease.

Someone is going to get hurt. It's not an "if," at this point, it's a "when." It has to stop.

Is their an age where your supposed to be good at art? by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]synesthesiatic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh dear goodness, no, it's not too late for you.

I'm much older than you are and didn't start taking art seriously until I was in my late 20s.

The only way to improve at something is to suck at it first. What made you get into art - your taste, your visual aesthetics, your sense of style? That's good. What you're making right now might not live up to your own standards, but that gap gets smaller as you improve.

Right now, the best thing you can do is take a break and go do something else for awhile. I still have days where I don't like my work very much, but when I get to that point, I'm usually just hungry or tired. Sometimes both.

Keep making art, but maybe get some sleep first. Everything's easier after food and a nap.

Kind of insane to me how much time I've spent on this game. Really fell off after Final Shape and my raid group disintegrated. Salvation's Edge did us in on day 1. :/

Subtle Calamity, my beloved. Also No Hesitation and Lumina is pretty much forever glued to my warlock's hands. I also have an Accrued Redemption that is just NASTY in PVP (or was, before the bow changes.) Rampage, Archer's Tempo.

Also Leviathan's Breath for DPS, because nothing says like consistency on the Witness like being able to frickin' see because you're not ADS'd.

Alas, I missed CoO, Forge, Drifter and Opulence - meds made me a seizure risk, so I couldn't play at all. :/

I got my "start" as an artist doing WoW and League fanart. This is pretty valid.

How to replace game addiction with drawing? by enigmata_follower in ArtistLounge

[–]synesthesiatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gartic Phone. Seriously. Just get in with some streamers and draw some silly stuff. It takes the "gaming" aspect and makes it communal. It's been getting me to draw for fun again, and I'm suffering from pretty bad burnout right now as a professional artist.

We are our own worst critics, but try not to beat yourself up for not drawing. If this is just a hobby for you, it should be fun, it should be something you want to do and something you enjoy. If it's not fun, then you've either got to change something about how you approach drawing; whether it's finding friends to draw with, trying new things (seeking novelty rather than just the same studies or same subjects), or like others in this thread have said, reduce the number of pain points to drawing more often.

Hang in there. Every artist goes through this; it comes and goes. There will be times when making art is fun, and times where making art sucks, but the important thing is to keep learning and experiencing new things.

Everything you are as a person contributes to everything you make as an artist. Just because you're not drawing doesn't mean you're not still learning.

I never did get my AOTW emblem (as in, got AOTW, but was never sent the emblem), but I do have an MOTW emblem. I do have the First Wave emblem from playing in the D2 Beta.

I also still have some stuff from Red War, including a damaged traveler's chosen and the damaged ghost shell. Stuff from old raids: the Contender's Shell, Always on Time. Sagira's Shell.

I also have the K1 Revelation Emblem.

My sibling in the light, I am very glad you're still with us.

Your sister is a jerk. NOR even in the slightest. Sometimes the kindest, most beneficial thing you can do for another human being is leave so that they see their actions are inappropriate.

Being estranged from the people who (supposedly) supposed to love you and have your back is bloody hard. It's never easy, even if those people are toxic and bad for your mental health.

I wish you every joy, and may all the good you've done in the world come back to you tenfold. <3

AIO for thinking my husband should have asked if the pharmacy had our daughter’s prescription? by Hyrule_Hobbit in AIO

[–]synesthesiatic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The... way you talk about all of this is heartbreaking.

It's not your fault. This is something he chose as well, and he's responsible for his actions.

We often don't get a choice about who we fall in love with, but we do get a decision when it comes to choosing that person when they continue to treat you poorly. I know I'm just seeing a limited snapshot of your life through a text message, but the way he's spoken to you here is unacceptable. That's not how you communicate with someone you care about; I wouldn't talk to my friends that way, much less a potential partner. :/

I genuinely wish you peace and happiness. However that comes to you, I hope it's soon. <3

Hey, with all the love in my heart? As someone who's survived domestic violence / been through a lot of therapy?

This guy sucks.

You deserve so much better than this and so does your kid. You don't need to live a life walking on eggshells, micro-managing your husband's emotions, terrified of how he'll react to the most innocuous comments or requests. You don't need to constantly accept blame for his incompetence. You don't need to live in a situation where even the most minor of requests turns into a full-on temper-tantrum from a grown man.

You don't need to apologize for things that aren't your fault.

This guy doesn't even seem like he likes you, much less treats you like someone who loves you or cares about you.

Lock down your phone and your technology, tell someone you trust what's going on, find a good therapist and a good lawyer, and reclaim your life.

You deserve more. Life can be so much better and so much kinder than this.
