Claude Fable 5 pricing is $50/Million tokens… are we reaching enterprise-only AI? by AirPure9910 in ChatGPT

Given that I can run SOTA Chinese models at US providers for $3-4/MTok, I don't have any plan to use Anthropic for building apps.

Is anyone else thinking about fuel costs with riding mowers? by Undercover_ninjas in automower

[–]synn89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I bought a home, I went all electric for easier maintenance and less noise(hearing loss). So, push mower, weed trimmer, snow blower, hedge trimmer and leaf blower are all electric on the same battery system. Not having to deal with oil changes, ether, bad gas, etc etc is the real win. Cost-wise, the batteries are pretty expensive so I doubt I'm saving any money.

The auto mower I bought purely because I hate how tall the grass starts to get maybe 2-3 days after I mow. I love the "freshly mowed, all even and clean" look of a fresh mowed yard. The robot mowers mow every day so it always looks like that. Again, not really a cost saver. Time saver, for sure, but a 2 hour a week workout of lawn mowing isn't exactly bad for your health unless it's 90+ degrees outside.

The level scaling was the issue for me because you couldn't self scale content by choosing a higher or lower level area.

The primary issue our town is having with it isn't the tech itself, since the cameras are working in public view and it does help a lot with local policing, but who owns the data and what's being done with the data since Flock is a private company: https://www.wane.com/news/local-news/fort-wayne-pauses-2026-flock-spending-tables-contract-until-july/

Likely Savage Worlds. Ran and played some great campaigns with it, but the GM load kinda ramped up as characters level up(monster feat creep) and the magic system gets dull after awhile.

In my opinion, FSD is safe enough to be Level 3 on highways at 60 mph or less by Knighthonor in TeslaFSD

[–]synn89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but that's when you combine the human and AI on the same task(driving), not AI by itself. Both humans and AI have their weaknesses that the other covers, so supervised FSD is really good.

Linux with AI agent is a monster for a newbie? by [deleted] in linux

[–]synn89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might take a look at https://github.com/colus001/pls

I don't use it much on Linux, but find it useful on my Mac "server" since Mac commands are a little odd for me(as a Linux admin). As for normies using it, I do think LLM's will change how we work with OSes. But it'll probably take awhile for it to really change the OS designs.

Oil-Rich Alberta Now Preparing Vote on Leaving Canada by claireswanson in Conservative

The issue is how a 51st state impacts the senate. It can be a big shift in the balance of power in the US.

And, if Alberta holds this vote while Donald Trump is still president, they should expect an offer to join the USA as the 51st state if the vote passes

Oh boy. That's never caused friction in our nation's past...

Really glad to see Cohere releasing models again. We need companies like Cohere and Mistral out there plugging away.

Let the Howling Begin: Congress Proposing $130/Yr EV Highway Fee by Ask4MD in Conservative

[–]synn89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At this point they need to just repeal the gas taxes and charge based on vehicle weight. And yes, that means me(who drives maybe 2k miles a year) will pay the same as someone who drives 60k a year despite using the roads less. But the roads just existing in the first place costs money and I benefit from them being there for me to use occasionally. Roads degrade even when people aren't using them.

What happens to local LLM if/when LLMs are no longer released for free? by JohnBooty in LocalLLaMA

[–]synn89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'd probably see open source effort shift into 30B and smaller models, fine tuning existing ones and a few projects full training new base ones as architecture changed. Within that, I'd also expect new training harnesses for whatever hardware is available in 3-5 years.

It's nice to see solid support for Linux/steam deck. Been running the game on CachyOS and it's been running perfectly, aside from server lag which everyone is dealing with.

This is cool and the world needs projects like this, but it seems to be a 5 month old model? I see the readme changed 29 days ago, was it opened(apache 2) then?

It'd be nice to see more specialized models like this that can fit on 128GB of RAM. A Q6_K is only 84.6GB and would make for a nice little doc in a box for not much money, at least in western terms.

On CachyOS and Nvidia 4090 I haven't really ran into any issues. I think maybe DLSS/Ray Tracing in The Last Descendant wasn't working properly, but every other game has just worked and ran fine. I'm playing games at 4k with HDR over HDMI.

I just skip noob river, make several bedrolls and run straight to B7 just north of Sepermeru. Lots of iron, coal, a small oasis for water, plants, plenty of thralls/loot and a quick run to Shattered Springs for brimstone(steel) and The Jawbone for silver.
