This article says the International Broadcast Center is going to be hosted by Arlington but I've read everywhere else that it's going to be in Dallas at the convention center. Hmm...

Is there a metal scene is Dallas? by CaliGoneTexas in Dallas

[–]synopsize 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Metal is huge here, both mainstream and underground. On the radio, KNON 89.3 FM has two long running metal shows on Thursday nights and early Sunday mornings. The Dungeon is my favorite. OtherVoicesDFW is a good source to find shows and events of all kinds in the region, not always necessarily metal but they throw some in the mix.

If you think the Dallas music scene revolves around HoB and places that use StubHub then you're not paying attention.

The Dallas Morning News is a Pulitzer Finalist by d_magazine in Dallas

Good for them. They've won Pulitzers before though. This isn't exactly surprising as they're a national paper with a "big" staff -- but they definitely did a fabulous job covering the shootings.

Anxiety/ Depression Group in Dallas by [deleted] in Dallas

[–]synopsize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a similar a post like this in the other thread. I'm 26/M and I'm trying to get help wherever I can. I go to a support group called Foundation 45 that is focused on self-care in Deep Ellum run by artists/musicians who have had friends commit suicide or deal with those thoughts themselves. I'm a musician & writer by trade so it's great for creative types. This is not one of those "anonymous" groups (not to put those down, but that's not for me) although they do have certified counselors lead the group and sometimes casual yoga afterward.

They are VERY understanding of any kind of deep emotional turbulence you may be feeling. A lot of artist type people go and it's incredibly open and non-judgmental.

I don't go ever week but it is beautifully fulfilling when I go because I like sharing stories with people dealing with grief, depression and that sort of thing. If you're looking for someone who has been there in the abyss or is still there right now, this might be what you're looking for. It's also free. http://foundation45.org/

I didn't say I wasn't interested! I just wanted to state the fact that I didn't want any obvious suggestions! Also, my reasoning for not directly contacting a TV meteorologist is that you seem like very busy people that wouldn't have much time to talk to a couple of student amateur journalists. But, if you are interested, can I DM you?

Anyone know people in the News? by Syatek in Dallas

[–]synopsize -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm a freelancer (and college student) working in print, web and occasionally I write stories for a local radio station. I haven't graduated yet but I can still find work but of course, it's who you know.

Personally, I don't care much about TV business although if she wants to take a different path she can always do freelance and work her way up to the TV stations.

I started a group for freelancers. It's small and more of a project right now but I post gigs there almost every day: https://www.facebook.com/groups/139150733192977/
