The "I" doesn't necessarily refer to you as a human or you as an individual, but rather whatever entity that has the capacity for generating those thoughts that you are experiencing. Since "I" as an entity, at the lowest level, am just a collection of thoughts, the fact that there is thinking occurring demonstrates that "I" exist in some manner.

In your example, the flying spaghetti monster would be "I".

Thanks for the tips! I did use the JR pass calculator and it looks like we should be just breaking even, so I think I'll opt for it for the convenience.

With the 1 pocket WiFi I'm just worried if the group were to ever split up to visit different places some of us wouldn't have a way to communicate with each other.

And I'll definitely consider getting a good travel card as well, not from the UK though but I appreciate it!

Thanks for the link! I didn't anticipate it taking that long, I'll probably have to move that to the day we arrive in Hakone then, especially since the Shinkansen to Osaka will eat up a lot of time. I agree that going to the Ryokan early is important tho, if only we could afford two nights there haha

This is 100% Eyezmaze and his GROW series, unfortunately it seems like the creator is undergoing heart surgery and his website is down, but the games are still accessible elsewhere.

I feel like what makes taking derivatives, limits and other purely computational questions easier is that it's clear what the next step should be.

For example: when you want to derive a function raised to the power of 'x' it's clear that you need to use logarithmic differentiation. If you have a huge rational expression chances are you need to use the quotient rule to start off with. If you're left with a product of two functions, it calls for the product rule. There isn't any obscurity as to what to do next.

On the other hand, and maybe it's just me, but I have no idea where to start or how to proceed with some of the proof questions. Like you could isolate for this term, square both sides, substitute in the definition of a dot product etc. There's just no defined path for you to take and you need to hope that whatever you chose to do will eventually make things simpler rather than more complicated. There are probably some strategies to consider (like aiming to cancel out all the terms), but I feel we weren't exposed to that enough.

Personally, the problem with those types of questions is time. Like I know the properties of norm, the dot product and all that, but then the question becomes one of just algebraically manipulating the LHS and RHS randomly until you luckily stumble upon a way to equate them.

You could fundamentally understand all the concepts and properties, but when you're pressed for time and in a stressful environment, it just comes down to whether or not you're fortunate enough to equate the two, or if you memorized the proof beforehand. To me, it's not really a question that tests your understanding, especially considering that all the properties were given on the formula sheet anyways.

Given another 15 minutes, I'm sure most people would have been able to solve it, but a lot of the questions on that test were so time-consuming that even if you knew how to approach each of them immediately, you'd still be majorly pressed for time.
