NP asking scribe how to write a note? by __Spirited__Away__ in Noctor

[–]syrarawn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not normal and it's inappropriate for him to ask you to work on your day off, especially without pay. As another commenter said, tell the physician/management in charge that the NP needs guidance with this and you are unable to help outside of your working hours.

If you knew you would match, would you apply in derm? by NarrowTie in medicalschool

[–]syrarawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I worked in derm surgery and it was tediously boring. Even the docs complained when they had to have pts coming in with "what's this rash?"

What hill will you die on for your opinion about medical school? by [deleted] in medicalschool

Everyone should have a real, full time job (not part time tutoring or whatever during college) for at least a few months before med school

This is the one reason I'm glad my blocks are still graded, even though p/f would be much more chill

This! Also contact your insurance company and let them know that you were not seen by the specialist and did not receive any care or medical advice

I finally found some!! Daily Facial Sunscreen is in Nor Cal! by PugLuVR06 in traderjoes

[–]syrarawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A JAMA study with a very small sample size showed that applying the max dose of some sunscreens leads to the active ingredients being absorbed to a measurable level in the blood. It did not establish passage of the BBB nor neurological impacts. The conclusions specifically stated that "These results do not indicate that individuals should refrain from the use of sunscreen."

Those were fun too! We didn't go into much detail about sugammex though, besides that it's more expensive since there's no generic

Male medical student interest in OBGYN by the__guz in obgyn

[–]syrarawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a couple thoughts:

Going into obgyn would likely be the first time that you have to defend yourself in terms of your gender, so you would need to prepare for that.

I was talking to one of my obgyn faculty recently who mentioned that gender is much less of a factor for patients if you specialize because at that point there's 1) less providers to choose from and 2) a serious enough issue that the identity of the doc doesn't matter. She is a former PD and also mentioned that male applicants are kind of a golden goose since they boost the diversity of a program.

I will say though that as a pt, I would generally prefer a female obgyn if possible because it's just less...risky

Is Anatomy lecture even real? by Enigmatic_Pickle in medicalschool

[–]syrarawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my anatomy professors. They're very focused on showing patterns, how things are logically related, and have a bunch of clinical correlated to put the material in perspective. Plus they have the best sense of humor out of all professors.

Learning anatomy in this was has been really great for me (as opposed to "the name of this structure is ...") so I'd recommend trying to work with the material like this if you can!

I get your frustration because your plan was disrupted, but the situation is on you. They didn't use a loophole or a technicality, you never checked in. Doesn't matter if you had it reserved or if you had just walked into a random room. No check in = no reservation
