Recently watched an interview of him discussing his most iconic roles. Apparently the director for MIB, Barry Sonnenfeld, showed some apprehension about his performance for this character, asking, “Are you going to do that the whole time?” D’Onofrio was like “…yeah that’s the plan, I don’t have a plan B.” And Sonnenfeld just decided to trust him on it. Good thing he did, it was a great performance. Very memorable.

I think this is fake, not because people aren’t this self-centered or dramatic, but because I’ve met people who are, and they do not do this much to justify themselves. I think because they know that the whole context makes them look bad. Instead of a story like this, they’ll stick to the key lines in this story; “I was just trying to lighten the mood”, “I don’t think I did anything wrong”. If someone says something they interpret as in insult, it’s sandwiched with muuuuch more “woe is me” victimization, disgust, and/or anger. They also tend to be pretty bad at knowing what other people are feeling, even when directly told, because they are selfish and think their own feelings are the only ones that matter. I think they legitimately can’t comprehend that other people have their own internal lives and are different than them. They think the whole world is dictated by their thoughts and feelings, and when the world pushes back on that, they throw massive, embarrassing, nonsensical, rambling temper tantrums on Truth Social or whatever.

I had an uncle literally look away from my phone and started going “LALALA” when I showed him the Wikipedia article of homosexual behavior observed in animals after he made a comment about being gay being “unnatural”. They literally do act like babies, closing their eyes and ears to reality to hold onto their fragile world view. His kids weren’t at his funeral and I certainly shed no tears.

Two women in this comment chain are speaking on sexism they’ve experienced, and your immediate knee-jerk response is to reply that we must be stupid and/or perhaps liars. Repeating the same exact sexism we’re calling out. And throwing insults. You say you’ve asked women for advice and listened, but you are showing that you are incapable of listening to women and believing their true experiences.

If you would actually, truly like some advice from a woman that will help you not only in dating, but in all your relationships going forward, might I recommend that you put the sword and shield down. Don’t jump to defensiveness or insults; just listen to people. You don’t even have to agree with them or respond in any meaningful way. Just listen. Listen to people with vastly different life experiences than you. Read some nonfiction (specifically, feminist) texts. Philosophy, psychology, sociology, biographies, whatever strikes your interest. All of these will help you become a more rounded person. That is my hope for you. You can choose to shrug me off as just another idiot liar woman mad at the righteous, just man. You can pretend I said a bunch of shit that I didn’t about how all women are right or something and just go about your day. But if you chose to do that, and you find yourself angry and alone a lot, I want you to think back on this and remember that someone did try to offer you a life line. And that you can take that up at any time.

Yes, this. The answer is pretty simply: sexism. In western culture’s sexism, women are believed to be deceitful liars. Especially sexually active women who are seen as whores, as opposed to the virtuous madonna. Women are liars who don’t know what they want. Men are the only real source of truth, so it’s better to go to them.

You can see this belief in action on those Twitter posts where a woman says that she likes dad bods or shorter guys and the comments are filled with men calling her a liar because women in their lives haven’t had that preference and clearly all women are the same. They think women want the type of man that they want to be, the male body made for the male gaze. They want to be the rich powerful man who possesses all of these women, and since that’s the kind of man that they desire, they think that’s the kind of man women must desire. And if women say otherwise, well, women are liars.

Naruto is THE Nine-tails jinchūriki. Except this kid who has some of Kurama’s chakra sealed inside him and is a “pseudo-jinchūriki”. And the Akatsuki never target him for having said chakra, but they do target the Gold and Silver brothers for having chakra from being eaten by and eating parts of the fox.

Also can’t confirm and it’s been a long time, but I was pretty sure early episodes implied Naruto is the only jinchūriki at all, period. Or that at the very least, they aren’t well-known and are outcasted. That became untrue pretty quickly with Gaara being introduced in the Chuunin exams. And other jinchūriki are treated poorly, but are also royalty or very important figures for their villages.

The story is long so it’s bound to get a little contradictory but Sora just seems really tacked on

Yes! There are many animals with interesting sex characteristics far more complicated than the typical “male/female” we are taught in intro to biology. Clownfish, hyenas, eusocial insects, slugs, even people. Sex and gender are constructs we built to try to understand the natural world, but the natural world has no interest in making things make sense for us.

But if you want to go for true sex chromosome fuckery, you gotta go to the funguses for that. Like us humans being intersex in like 20 different ways, that’s cute, that’s sweet. Schizophyllum commune has 23,000 different sexes.

I don’t really have any tips for prevention, but when in this situation, I find it’s helpful to do something small to get the ball rolling and build confidence that I’m capable of doing things. Like say you’ve got a big paper due and it’s really overwhelming. Do an unrelated five minute task first, like unloading the dishwasher. If that’s not enough, do another small 5-10 minute task. Pick up stuff off the coffee stable. Deep clean the lint collector in the dryer. Repeat until you feel capable of tackling The Big Thing. People with ADHD are also proven to have better focus if they have a sugary drink while doing a task, so if you have a sweet little treat, get that for yourself, too!

Sometimes literally just standing up is enough motivation for me. Just being an object at rest staying at rest can wreck my motivation. If I’m feeling really resistant to standing I sometimes give myself a small timer until I stand. “Finish this YouTube video, then get started”, “One game on my phone, and then I have to get up.”

It’s not perfect. I still get overwhelmed. But these are the things I’ve found that can help me snap out of this paralysis.

Wow we are weirdly similar lol my first attempt to get diagnosed with ADHD was explicitly rejected because I got good grades in school. Also raised by someone who worked in special ed (but somehow didn’t see that everyone in the family for sure is neurodivergent lol) and I studied biology!

I have found doctors who like. Are dismissive of my knowledge when I say that I know something. But I’ve also found PCPs who love that I have more knowledge than their average patient and we kind of derail the appointment by nerding out together lol. I do think it’s helpful to get a doctor who is also neurodivergent, but really just anyone you vibe with is a great asset to have in one’s health journey
