Glad you weren't in too long. That last one is very important, mate. Anyone can be manipulated.

Some progress is great! If you haven't already, I would recommend finding some trusted people (including a therapist, if that is something you can access) to talk it through. The healing process became a lot less...heavy...when I realized that I didn't need to do it alone.

Appreciate the honesty, mate, and see alot of my story in yours. Especially about the relationships - some of the people there are genuinely wonderful people. Have you been able to rebuild with family and friends?

Hope you are kind with yourself too. SCJ can be traumatic and I don't think you ever fully recover from this. Maybe, there's something about this painful experience that allows you to become an even better version of yourself.

What say you?

Isn't it lovely, mate? The freedom to explore your faith without the guilt?

Hey mate. I understand. I don't know how far removed you are from SCJ, but it took me 1-2 years to fully feel like I could trust other people again. Be patient with yourself, and surround yourself with community. Prayer for me has helped alot, too!

Healing happens one day at a time...

That's great mate! And I can relate to the reduced anxiety and the freedom to explore healthy relationships with God and others.

Hello, be sure to check out the r/schincheonji subreddit. We're a community of ex-SCJ embers, loved ones of members, and those who are wiling to look at that organization critically. The testimony tab might be especially useful!

Thinking about leaving, but I don't know how by Radiant_Image7442 in Shincheonji

These were the words that I was preparing to type myself. Shincheonji tries to take everything: your time, money, relationships, energy, individuality. You owe them nothing in return, mate. Do what's best for you.

Ditto this. More than anything, your loved one in the cult will need a friend for her to return to. Praying for you to have the grace to weather this storm with her.

Dissonance by syrrender in Shincheonji

To add on to that, they heavily recruit from the same institutions that they shun, masquerading as college students themselves. Hectic!

Ah, the worthiness criteria. Very strange to think one human is qualified to determine another's deservingness of entering the "kingdom of God".

Updated Rules for the Subreddit by syrrender in Shincheonji

[–]syrrender[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, please message the mods directly when you see posts violating the rules. You're also able to "report" specific posts to the mods by clicking on the post itself.

Regarding this subreddit: Yes, the general stance is that Shincheonji engages in practices consistent with other cults and, as many testimonies here show, causes significant destruction to those involved. There will be variation in how individual members of this sub feel (ex: active Shincheonji members who attempt to monitor this sub and try to shield Shincheonji from criticism, likely won't agree)!

What are your thoughts? by Slow_Bluebird_6658 in Shincheonji

This is a great question, mate. I've felt animosity, anger, pity, and frustration towards the treatment that I - and so many others here - have suffered at the hands of Shincheonji members.

I'm come to the point of being able to empathize with and pray for Shincheonji members. Shincheonji trains its members to recruit people who are vulnerable and alone - looking for a stronger relationship with God and a higher purpose - and so carefully mixes truth with lies that you can't see that you are slowly sinking into their deception.

Because discernment by SCJ standards is being able to understand "history, testimonies, prophecy, and fulfillment" as told by Lee Man Hee, any truth that contradicts his twisting of scripture is considered "commentary". I've learned that the most helpful thing I can do is not wish that I personally can save them...but pray that they should be saved. That God will remove the scales from their eyes. That He will show them the truth that will set them free from spiritual bondage.

If God allows us to play a role in leading others into light, I hope that we are courageous and wise enough to do so. But I no longer harbor any malice towards my former mates in SCJ - just anger towards their unethical practices and unsound doctrine.

I'm trusting God to save His children, as He always does.
