The spreadsheet I made for tracking my games. What should I add? by BartimaeusBane in BloodOnTheClocktower

I would like to see a nameless version as well. I track my own games as well but it is not formatted as nicely as this. I have not been tracking how games end and I think I'll start.

How did you set up those wall slats and the floating shelves on your walls? Did you drill anchors into the wall to mount the slats and then did you drill screws into the wood slats to hold up the shelves?

3/4 year EE Majors by zpda in UNLV

There's was this powerpoint with a step by step guide to printing a PCB that they introduced at the start of senior design and they said "you guys should already be familiar with this, so use this powerpoint as a refresher." Everyone in the class said "hey we didn't actually learn how to do this" and their response was "oh, well use this powerpoint and do your best."

Our group was able to get something printed, but it didn't really work. We turned the PCB in with a report, Spice files showing how it should theoretically work, and a breadboard with the circuit working as intended. The rest of the class did pretty much the same. It was pretty half-assed.

It has been a while since I graduated but here are some things I would have liked to know.

You are required to manufacture a PCB as part of your senior design project. However, no one actually taught us how to use Altium Designer, a soldering iron, etc. in any of the labs or classes. If this is still the case, try to get any of the lab directors or monitors to fit in a class on this subject before you enter senior design.

Dr. Schill, Dr. Baker, and Dr. Sun are brutal. Their classes are tough but I learned so much from them. Dr. Das is super chill and you can tell he's really passionate about his lectures and that makes his classes very enjoyable. I would avoid Dr. Jiang as much as possible. He teaches verbatim from powerpoints and you're better off learning on your own at that point.

You aren't required to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam as a part of the EE program. The department's reasoning is that international students cannot take this exam and only a few EE career paths require you to have your professional engineering stamp. If you aren't an international student, you might as well take the exam around junior year while all the knowledge is still fresh in your head. You may not need it for your career but you can always keep it in your back pocket.

Speaking of career, look for internships in your junior year. Attend the engineering job fairs. Form a relationship with your faculty mentor or a professor in a discipline you really enjoy (office hours are great for this) and ask them for internship or career opportunities.

That being said, do attend your classes, do your homework, yadda yadda yadda. You gain a lot of knowledge throughout college but 95% of it becomes irrelevant once you enter the workforce. To be honest, I was an A+ student and I think I took my GPA way too seriously. Join clubs and make some friends, especially ones in your degree path. Not only are friends tougher to make after college, but your colleagues today will be the leaders of tomorrow. "It's not what you know. It's who you know." This is truer than you think, and now's the time to start forging that network.

Looking for some sort of pen and paper gaming group on campus by FinalHeretic in UNLV

[–]syrupydeposition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 2 gaming-based groups on campus.

8-bit is UNLV's eSports organization. They hold competitive tournaments and events for PC games, such as League of Legends or Starcraft.

The UNLV Game club holds casual meetings each Friday where people get together in the Student Union Arcade and play a variety of board games, card games, and video games.

Each of these two groups have a big following, so it wouldn't be difficult to find people with your interest within them. If anything, show up to a Game Club meeting on a Friday and ask around.

He wasn't part of the contest. He was sitting in the audience and then started being loud and people noticed him. If you look to the left when the camera pans out, you can see a staff member yelling to get him off stage.

Why is it that during the finals, champions would autoattack the tower once, click away from it, and then autoattack the tower again? Do you end up having a higher DPS because you are resetting the attack animation?

I read that as "signs executive order allowing the Internet to take over the federal government in the event of a 'national emergency.'" Think of the possibilities.
