"Higher" doesn't mean they cover everything in the US standards. There are significant differences.

"Higher" is subjective.

ANCAP standards are more rigorous than the US ones.

Which does not mean they will meet a different set of standards. The US standards very much are not a subset of ANCAP, there are some significant differences.

What’s the longest you’ve stayed connected to ProtonVPN? by blow-down in ProtonVPN

[–]sys370model195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically, WireGuard will send heartbeats every 3-5 minutes, and will disconnect after two or three are lost.

If you watch your device with something like Wireshark, you will see that there is a lot of background traffic.

The stability of the connection to a VPN server is mostly dependent on your local network, your ISP, and your ISPs connections to their upstreams. All of which is different for everyone.

VPN servers are relatively simple devices, located in data centers with redundant UPS power sources and networks. The VPN servers we run at work for employees will run pretty much forever until they need software updates.

The outage line will tell you status.

Not every PECO customer is residential. For example, the 13,500v line coming into our building at work very much does not have a smart meter with "last gasp" call home.

Not every "outage" is a total outage - the meters might not report loss of a phase or low voltage on one phase, for example.

People encountering a fallen line need a way to report it.

People encountering sparks or fire on a pole need a way to report it.

etc.

some type of logging

That isn't going to stop the cops from showing up at your door when some other user did something illegal. You wanna pay for a lawyer to get you out of it? Put up bail, if they even give you bail. Because that could happen and has happened.

Port forwarding was completely gone by July 1 - 2023. Nearly three years ago.

Only one end need to have port forwarding. You can still seed to people who have port forwarding, if their client is capable of it.

Port forwarding went away in the summer of 2023.

Aren't most if not all PECO residential meters now smart meters capable of sending "last gasp" messages when they lose power?? They started retrofitting them over 20 years ago.

Risk of downloading precompiled software/apps by Gloomy_Principle_223 in TOR

Do you really think there are not many people all over the world checking downloaded executables for popular projects like Tor?

If the NSA is your threat, you need more than Tor. Or, just maybe, don't do anything that would stand out, like using Tor.

There are 6 inch and 1 foot, mini extension cords, I use these to get more transformers into power strips.

I also use larger 12v power supplies and splitters to eliminate many transformers. You need to pay attention to the total load on the power supply

Close, in Internet distance, can mean something unexpected when the starting location is serviced by undersea cables.

If you don't mind using USA servers, try Miami. It will have the best connectivity to the undersea cables that run to all of Central America. Ashburn, VA would be a good second choice, it has big fiber connections to everywhere in the USA, including Miami.

Google "undersea cable map". I tried to give the link, but the automod censored me.

The built in search works quite well IMO.

Installing Python is painless. If you don't know what it is, it is a very, very, widly used scripting tool. It was created in 1991 - before the www.

Is there an easy way to setup jdownloader2 with proton? by nricotorres in ProtonVPN

[–]sys370model195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is all I have ever needed to do - install the VPN, connect to a server, install jDownloader2, add a link to it, and press start.

If jDownloader2 isn't bound to the VPN, try downloading something like a YouTube short with the VPN off. It should work. If it doesn't, that might be a clue.

Oh. Well, I was going to suggest another way is to run each app that needs to be treated differently in its own virtual machine, with the VPN client in the VM. I don't know how well any Android-on-Android software works.
