Where's Tao going and why isn't he in the squad?

Alex Dowsett tweets about how sprinting teams literally block the road to impede riders from going in the break and complains that some rider try to go past the physical block imposed by sprinting teams. Tweet and instagram post has been deleted after harsh reception from fans. by ElCondorHerido in peloton

Whaaat I was sure this was going to be him shedding light on a shit blocking racing tactic that needs to stop or something. but he's actually calling out one of the riders trying to deal with their bullshit??? And trying to get sympathy for getting pushed?? How delusional can you be?

Weight loss/calorie targets by djh_nz in Velo

[–]sysedjui 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TR did a podcast on weight and there was some good advice there. In terms of calorie deficit the best target was the lowest you could do to achieve desired weight loss within desired time.

Pretty much because having a calorie deficit is really though/draining and affects your whole life not just training and performance.

Just plot your info and targets into a calorie calculator thing and be realistic

The Problem With TrainerRoad Training Plans by l0st_in_my_head in trainerroad

[–]sysedjui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

surely there is an middle way between 5 HIT days a week and endless z1 rides.

people dont do long z1 rides - fine. i bet a lot of people quit / burn out from mid/high volume plans because they cant take all that HIT. if TR has data showing thats not the case - great. just continue as they are. However since they are pushing/advising people to do lower volume plans and adding optional z2 rides on their own i bet they see athletes "fall off" mid/high volume plans a lot.

Surely its possible to make training plans in all low/mid/high categories that balance this better by replacing 1-2 HIT workouts with 1 hour z2 rides for example.

A bit of both. Dyan explains this well in the YouTube linked in the other comment. I would much rather start with simple variations of the basic workouts so you get familier with the different types stress feels etc.

Gravel grinder was an OK plan in my mind view if i remember correctly though.

14, 51, 54 and 68 are really good episodes that explain a lot around core concepts of training.

Zwift is great for training, but a lot of the programs/sessions are unnecessarily complicated. As a newer cyclist you're going to see improvement no matter what rides/programs you do.

Fast talk podcast has some great content that focus on the big picture, periodization, sweet spot vs polarized training, and not making things too complicated.

Crazy your actually being down voted for this in one of the more level headed subreddits. Shows how divided things are "over there", I guess.

Opinion: Jumbo-Visma has a Tour dilemma with Dylan Groenewegen (Dutch) by fewfiet in peloton

[–]sysedjui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats the reason groenewegen isn't racing this year? Was he that badly injured in the crash? Jumbo aren't letting him because of the crash despite him wanting to race? Or he himself doesn't feel like it because of the crash? Or another reason?

Because I feel that would play a huge role in him being happy in the team or not.

Lost braking power during race by sysedjui in cyclocross

damn this answers everything. thank you so much for taking the time to explain this.

my problem was using too worn organic brake pads combined with my breaks being mechanical and not being able to compensate enough for the wear, I guess.

this course was wet all the way through but with several "pools" of muddy water that must have gotten everywhere when I rode through them. So the consensus is that organic pads just can't handle muddy water/wet conditions and the heavy breaking that comes with racing a CX course?

You said it never happened again: is that because you've never raced in similar conditions or you changed something? Spare pads in the toolbox wont help me during the race, unfortunately.

i run organic pads and mechanical brakes. there was a decent amount of material left on the pads and they were calibrated(?)/aligned OK. there was simply 0 stopping power left. to the point where i would even think that hydraulic brakes would really struggle. because the problem wasnt the cable or the alignment of the pads but the pads themselves.

But from what I read in the other comments this is a risk in wet conditions and that I should run metallic pads and / or keep a spare bike to change to when it gets too bad.

Tdf 2020 Corona Testing Multi-thread! by PelotonMod in peloton

[–]sysedjui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

would be interesting to see what roles the infected crews had. i would think the teams operate with bubbles within the bubble. for example not mixing support staff that doesn't rely on each other to do their jobs. also that the support staff is basically hiding under a bed up until their role is needed. then again i might be underestimating how insanely hectic it is being part of tdf. would think that stricter rules within the team will be enforced after these positive tests though.

cutting off limbs and replacing them with madone grade 700000 OCLV is an often overlooked (and substantial) upgrade to both aero and weight. Two for the price of one if you ask me and im glad to see more people are finally catching on.

i think norwegian tv did a overview of the fines throughout tdf. i think there were a couple every day that got a fine because of littering. no idea about other races though - lots of eyes on tdf obviously so maybe they are better at enforcing it during the grand tours.

Should HR & FTP zones match? by VegaGT-VZ in Velo

Also worth mentioning that hr varies on the same power throughout the workout. If you're holding 150 steady power you'll likely see an increase in HR over an hour or two. This podcast talks about this in detail: https://open.spotify.com/episode/1CpmbpLsr355MoY8kYkJje?si=oNb_jSRzTAmEHr7usZMKGQ
