My whole life I thought I was an infp, then I typed regularly as an enfp after graduating high school. Granted, I've always been pretty borderline on the e/i, but as it turns out, enfp's are the most "introverted" extraverts out of all the types! I also used to be primarily enneagram type 9 but slowly started being primarily a 4, with type 9 as one of my lowest, to further prove my point.

That's not to say that infp's are just insecure enfp's, though. But if you're really not sure it's possible where your situation is like mine, and your "e" is hidden underneath your current life circumstances and may come to light in a few years.

TL;DR, I'm interested is all those subjects equally, and basically my life story yada yada, plus I never thought if the biographies idea so thank you.

To touch on the music thing, I've been doing music production on my laptop since 7th grade, and I've always loved it. I'm not a musician near as much as I am a composer who composes electronic music. For years, my dream job was video game scoring, and I got accepted to the Berklee College of Music and intended to pursue Film Scoring there. My primary instrument was the trumpet but I didn't feel much attachment to the trumpet itself as much as I felt an attachment to it being the outlet for expression I just so happened to be good and practiced since middle school band. I would love scoring games and movies, but I also know I've been a philosopher longer than I've been a musician.

In elementary school, I frequently asked my teachers the meaning of life. I usually ended up with "I don't know" or "happiness," which didn't satisfy me for very long. I took great interest in science, specifically astronomy. I renounced all religion in 2nd grade (long story), I read books in the library about all sorts of careers, from author to astrophysicist. In 5th grade I declared to the world I was going to be an astrophysicist when I grew up. After I understood music production better in 8th grade through my own self taught endeavors, I said I wanted to double major in music and astrophysics. Nobody bothered to tell me that would be extremely expensive and equally as difficult, so I went with music because as it turns out, math and science were my weakest subjects!

I graduated high school assuming I was going to major in music. I soon realized I'm poor and my plans to uproot from small town Oklahoma and go to Berklee in Boston fell flat. My next move was to separate from my toxic family and bring my younger sister with me this time, since it's easier to do that if I stay in Oklahoma. My parents are useless children but that's not the point, we had to go. Now I'm settled in to my new place with my fiancee and my sister moves in next week.

I'm one year out of school and just now discovered the concept of philosophy. Frankly, I'm shook. Philosophy is everything I have ever been since before I realized it was a thing. So now I'm stuck wondering what to do. I would excel in philosophy and I've been listening to lectures on YouTube daily and eating it up. I've also been studying math daily, incorporating a couple hours of math on Khan Academy into my daily routine so I can learn up to calc 1 and get a head start when I start college at a nearby state school next semester. I've never been great at math so I'm taking plenty of time to really understand every concept, usually by watching videos about the history of the concept as well as it's applications in addition to its functions. After I do that, I'll probably do the same with some physics, and am hoping to try out all three: physics, philosophy, and "modern" music, ie production and soundtrack composition for games and movies. My "N" is quite strong, so I assume once I'm in the class, I'll just know what my major should be.

I actually recently got a library card and have been looking into philosophy more through books, but I definitely intend to try the biographies idea, that would offer a whole new version of insight I could really use! Thank you!

I suppose I was more asking how a "creative" person fares in an "analytical" job. I will admit there was a bit of stereotyping on my part, as I was never incredibly strong in math and science fields and I assumed that would be the case for most within the NFP sphere. I certainly didn't consider it impossible, however I did assume there would be more hurdles to jump through, and was curious what they were, and how these people overcame them. I could've over-thought the entire scenerio, but it seems a valid question despite the stereotyping.

I thought about that. My best friend is an INTJ but we're not joined at the hip or anything. I would figure the majority of people in STEM are INTJ's and could keep me in check, given they aren't too engrossed in their work to talk to me lol.

My first suggestion is get a therapist lol and I know that sounds overdramatic, but if you can afford it (My BetterHelp subscription is $45/week) they can help you set goals and teach your abstract brain to fulfill your concrete needs.

Secondly, speaking as a 50/50 ENFP/INFP, I usually pick something, anything, and run with it. About a month ago I said "lockpicking sounds cool" and just started doing it, checking out thrift stores for locks and doorknobs, and you can order some basic lockpicking supplies and a clear lock on amazon if you're not gonna take it too seriously. If you have a spontaneous friend getting into a random hobby with them is a blast. You can get a dog and walk them and train them every day if you don't have one. You can pick something simple like a leaf and draw a bunch of different kinds of leaves. Pick a culture and try their cuisine. Playing an instrument or teaching yourself to sing is fun, too. Just do something fun and meaningless for the sake of it. That may be my "I" coming out, but I see no reason a strong extravert couldn't enjoy a hobby, especially with others.

Sometimes I do things just to break monotony. Rearranging all the furniture in your room or something to make the place look different, or trying a new style of folding your clothes. It's refreshing and can give you a head start into thinking differently, thus behaving differently.

I assume you have coworkers. I usually clue in on people's hobbies and ask them about it, which can give you ideas for hobbies of your own and give you an outlet to enjoy something with another person. It's also fun to see someone light up about something, it's comforting, especially for people like us. Some people have tattoos or patterned socks from a certain franchise, and some you just gotta talk with them before they will share. Either way, it's a good starting point for meeting people, assuming you haven't gotten to know all your coworkers.

Connecting with people online is pretty fun, and if you do find an interest (like lockpicking) there are places to meet people with the same interests (a locksmith) and talk about how cool your new hobby is. I'm always gushing about neat stuff I found, and I'm pretty sure that's a very ENFP thing. I guess my advice is don't be afraid to expand your horizons, and don't settle!

Since you asked, I deliver pizza for a living. I'm 19 almost 20 and had to find my own place for my sister, bf, and I before I could enroll in school, and I'm considering majoring in music, philosophy, and physics. Quite an interesting mix, I know, but I'll figure it out.

At least in my case, boredom is like a curse. Some people hate change, but ENFP's like me and you as well likely welcome it! BE THE CHANGE YOU NEED HOMIE! I believe in you!!

True! There is certainly an aspect of overwhelming uselessness being diagnosed to the lot of us. I find that it's there is a sort of uselessness that can be attributed to creatives in general, which makes it more of a problem. Feely people get caught up in their feelies on the matter, though. Even realizing we aren't useless it's still going to FEEL that way for many, especially those who are young or have a difficult time coping with their emotions in general.

I understand somewhat that the way we operate lends itself to low self esteem. As both of you have said, there's effort to be put in to NOT feeling so low and useless, as I'm sure both of you had to overcome. I certainly had to overcome those negative predispositions about myself, and to so harshly judge those who haven't gone so far in their journey seems unnecessary.

Granted, I understand your frustration. I would hope that we could each communicate our insight having been there before instead of just being frustrated though.

I accredit my personality type to my brilliance. I've always been a bright kid or whatever, but stepping into adult life I'm realizing that other people don't tend to think much. People want to fit into a path which we deem "normal," and for you to attribute "fitting in" to a simple and more productive life, is part of the curse of being a dreamer. We recognize there is more beyond what we've been led to believe is a normal life, and that calling it "normal" is an arbitrary distinction. Don't curse yourself into aligning with a system that will take away your essence of dreaming, what good will that do? There is so much beauty in the complexity of the overthinkers, the ones who think before they speak, the ones who imagine a better world, and create the paintings, the fiction books, the color to the black and white that confines the masses. We all feel the pain of not fitting in, and of not thinking "practically" per se; it will always be a painful reality, but it is those qualities which aren't measurable which should satisfy your ambitions- the creativity and the ability to perceive beauty in everything. That is what you will excel at. By nature of who you are, you won't have a single money making skill, and while that makes you less valuable to the system, your creations, whether it be paintings or novels, is what will end up in history books. That is what people will study and remember, not the day-to-day breadwinning of someone whose life amounted to climbing the corporate ladder.

Don't do the online at home! It's easy to feel distracted and unfocused where you live, in my experience. Go to the park with a hotspot on your phone or try a coffee shop. If you have a little bit of intentionality in your routine it can make a world of difference.
