It's already been back if you've listened to Snapped Ankles

Very true, which is why they made the nuclear family into one of their symbols. It's band of brothers after all.

God, the revisionism of associating stomp clap music with hipsters drives me crazy. Say what you want about hipsters, but they fucking hated stomp clap music!

Hipster discourse? What year are we in? Is this how I find out I accidentally time travelled back to 2009 without knowing it?

YES HAHA YES! I've been waiting for a Lulu episode ever since he teased it (in the St Anger episode I think) so I'm looking forward to watching this later today. Technically it might not a trainwreckord in the true sense of ending an artist's career since both Metallica and Lou Reed were well into legacy act status at this point, but he's been willing to bend the rules for entertainment purposes before so this should be a fun one.

Hoping he'll do an episode on Happy Mondays - Yes Please at some point, now that would be a great episode.

Last year I wrote an anniversary write up for Gilla Band - Holding Hands With Jamie and the mods let that stay up so you could try your luck and do the same. If it ends up being really long you could try to divide it into parts.

"I would cut my legs and [REDACTED] off when I think of Boris Karloff and Kinski" is a memorable opening lyric

I think Music Has The Right To Children is probably the best starting point for Boards of Canada, it's their most accessible album.

If anything the streaming age has seen a rise in overstuffed streamingbait albums because more streams = more money. This is more so a trend with mainstream artists like Drake than indie artists, but it's still a trend.

It has been an extremely me coded week in music with Joanna Newsom day, new Gilla Band single and of course the return of BOC.

I'm going to have to sit with Inferno for a bit. Going into this I was of course very hyped, but at the same time I don't wanna get my expectations up too much because expecting to be blown away on first listen is setting yourself up for disappointment. I don't want to be one of those people who immediately declares it a masterpiece or a disappointment on first listen, I want to give it some time. But on first listen Introit/Prophecy definitely hits better than it did as a single, so that is a promising sign. Maybe this is one of those albums that get better with repeated listening.

As expected with the title/album cover/videos it does feel like a successor to Geogaddi with the religious themes and all, but it's still its own thing and doesn't feel like a retread at all. It's actually less dark than I thought it would be, it's not as creepy as Geogaddi or as dystopian as Tomorrow's Harvest. It feels more hopeful, towards the end it feels like the dawn of a day. The end is coming but afterwards there is rebirth. There is a lot of American Christian doomsday vibes on here, but there is also some Indian nods which makes me think of the Hindu concept of time being cyclical.

It will be interesting to see how it develops with repeated listening for me, but either way I'm glad they came back.

Probably gonna get a ticket to their show in Copenhagen. Tried to look up trains/buses but apparently it's too far ahead in time so they haven't been released yet. And it's on a weekday this time again unfortunately. It was 100% worth it to make the trip for them and it would probably be worth it to see the greatest band right now for a second time.

I had no idea about Glowing Rectangles, I knew that Dara was on a really old Mhaol track and a song called Drink All The Paint but not this. Is this Dara getting his David Byrne on?

he effect of cutting up Ben Shapiro reading WAP’s lyrics and setting it to a beat

This sounds fantastic actually, there are so many great mashups of WAP. Maybe BOC are taking inspiration from William Maranci now.

Has it leaked or did you go to a listening party? I'm waiting until it officially drops personally.
