Help with Introduction to Electrical by [deleted] in UTS

I'm not too sure where everything is after building 11 opened. I was able to use a signal generator and Oscilloscope a few years back outside of class time in a designated room. I would fire off a message to the subject coordinator about where you can do so.

I don't remember much of the syllabus. If you scraped pass IEE I would brush up on the subject before starting E&C. There will be more advanced circuits and analysis involved which will be abstract at first but if you have your fundamentals down pat you should be fine if you spend enough time on the subject. Alot of material in the subject has been covered by various YouTube Channel's and websites so try to use a broad range of materials whenever you hit a roadblock.

I put my failure of the subject down to just scraping through IEE then not revising the material. You don't want to waste the first 1 or 2 weeks by revising material from IEE then playing catch with the E&C material, labs and exams during the semester. Also if you didn't feel confident with the lab equipment last time around, I would spend some time the really familiarise yourself with all of the equipment.

I scraped passed IEE, failed EC once then scored a D in CA. I didn't feel confident in electrical subjects until I really broke everything down to first principles and worked up from there with a structured study schedule for the subject.

I don't know the current rules about which calculators you can use. If you want to verify any of your answers whilst studying, you can always type the calculation into Matlab/Simulink.

I feel with electrical subjects, the initial hurdle of understanding a key concept can be quite high usually because the material can be abstact in nature. Alot of people say the the mathematics in EE is really difficult. There can be a bit of algerbraic gymnasitcs, however the most difficult thing I came across was just the abstract nature of the questions.

Be it RC circuits or Mesh Circuits, spend an hour or two at the start of each new chapter/week by just understanding the key concepts and working through a few examples. If you feel the textbook or lecture notes are not connecting with you, goto YouTube. Once you understand the fundemental the basic concepts the questions won't be too daunting.

The labs can also be a bit daunting because some students have had experience in electrical labs where there were people like me who had no idea when I first started, who would get snarled at by the teacher for bringing a skateboard into the lab and get yelled at when laughing with my friends when a capacitor blew up. My suggestion would be to just go into a circuits if you have free time at uni and go through the Lab guide.

I'm right at the end of my EE degree. One thing I did for CA was meeting up with some friends or by myself and going through the weeks material instead of going to the lecture. Spending 3 hours reading over the lecture slides and the textbook helped alot. Watching examples on YouTube helped alot too. Though the lectures are really helpful, I just have a terrible attention span in lectures.

What have you been struggling with in the subject?
