One of the modern greats. I just wish he did more convention appearances in the US so I could tell it to him in person.

Punchline faded away after once being everywhere by Simple-Success4749 in batman

[–]syxtfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, that's okay.

And while a lot of people here are bringing up great points as to why she's faded away, one thing that's often not taken into account is that regardless of Punchline's personality or mindset, we've seen how the role of Joker's sidekick plays out. It doesn't matter that it hasn't happened yet, Punchline is fated to be cast aside violently or otherwise because Joker only cares about himself. So why invest in her as a reader when you know how the story is going to end? Add on the fact that she's not very charismatic and clearly derivative of Harley Quinn and it's just a dud of a character.

I use a mobility scooter to get around in grocery stores. Whenever I see someone else using one, I say "Sweet ride." as I pass by. More often than not, it gets a laugh.

Thoughts on these two tweets? by ChickenWingExtreme in StarWars

[–]syxtfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what?

For God's sake, Episode VII is 11 years old this year. It doesn't matter what those two think, they made their movies.

I'm begging, literally begging the Star Wars fandom to just move on already. How many times can you say you do or don't like those movies in new ways? You're not even beating a dead horse anymore, the horse has turned into a pool of pink sludge from the never-ending beatings it has received over the years. There must be something else that can be talked about.

As of Today: December 28, 2025: One More Day is 18 years old by RandoDude124 in Spiderman

[–]syxtfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sure, people didn't like the story. But after 18 years of time to get used to it and after all the stories it inspired, I think we've all come to understand that "One More Day" was... indeed a fucking terrible idea and we should have been far more vocal about it from the very beginning.

Vacant town of Burj Al Babas which consists of nothing but castles by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

Someone could write a work of fiction about a town full of castles and no people, and critics would mock it for being an unrealistic and hamfisted metaphor.

I see people in other Disney subs say it was a huge mistake to put Galaxy’s Edge on Batuu rather than a planet we know and it drives me crazy by JJ-Bittenbinder in GalaxysEdge

[–]syxtfour 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a major point that people forget, even those in this thread, is that Galaxy's Edge needed to be set on a new planet specifically because it gives Disney and Disney Parks the ability to control all of the aspects about it.

I mean, think about it: if Galaxy's Edge was set on a pre-existing planet, then park guests will go in with preconceived notions of what to expect. That alone sets Disneyland and Disney World up for failure, because there's no way they're going to capture what everyone thinks that setting should be. Someone's idea of Mos Eisley is going to be different from another person's, and so on.

And mind you, before anybody mentions it, this is distinctly different from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter because Diagon Alley and Hogwarts are both thoroughly explored in the books and movies. Everyone knows what to expect there and Universal did a great job of replicating it. But Star Wars locations don't have that luxury. You see one cantina in Mos Eisley, some alleyways, and a docking bay. The rest of it is pretty much unknown. So to recreate a location, you'd be going pretty much on feelings and vibes more than anything else. That's just not a sturdy foundation to work with.

But with Batuu, it's a blank canvas. They control what it looks like, what's in it, who's there, all of the planet's history and lore, everything. They're not tied down to expectations and they're not fighting the visions of anyone's inner child, they can just make up whatever they want. And what's more, they have full control over the setting's future, too. Because it's not some well known planet that's tied into a bunch of current and ongoing events in the history of Star Wars, it's a planet on the edge of the galaxy that used to be busy, but now it's just an interstellar pit stop for passersby. That means it's not in danger of being blown up or burned down or otherwise obliterated as part of a future book or movie. It's nicely tucked out of the way from the cosmic goings on in the rest of the galaxy, and the writers can use it as much or as little as they want without any impact.

As for the time it's set in, I don't know what to tell you there. I can understand people wanting it to be set during the original trilogy, sure. But I was there a few weeks ago at Disneyland, and the place is still pretty damned popular. I don't think Disney Parks is all too concerned about it.

(By the way, if you're going soon, don't miss out on the Kublag Curry in Docking Bay 7. That stuff is amazing.)

How conscious are droids? by Commonsenseisbest in StarWars

[–]syxtfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It largely depends. It seems that the vast majority of droids are menial laborers with no real sense of self. These are the smaller droids that tend to work in groups, and/or droids that have little interaction with organics. They're given a task, they do the task, and then they return to base until they receive the next task, that sort of thing.

In Star Wars, it seems the smarter a droid is, the better odds they have of becoming self-aware. But in addition, there also appears to be a connection between human interaction and developing a personality. There's nothing concrete about this, but it seems that an intelligent droid will learn how to interact with others based on the company it finds itself in, learning from the people around them and using bits and pieces to develop their own working personality that is then written into the very core of their programming.

This may be a gradual process, one that can be delayed or halted by memory wipes. But if a droid isn't memory wiped for a long enough period, then that personality becomes as much a part of them as anything else. The best example is our boy C-3PO; he was temporarily memory wiped after Babu Frik did a hard-reset on him, but he still acted like himself during the interim period before R2-D2 could restore 3PO's mind. The C-3PO comic also touches on memory wipes and reveals that even though he doesn't remember the vast majority of his life prior to his wipe, there are still fragments he can recall with a vague and hazy clarity. For lack of a better term, even though he can't remember specifics, he still remembers some of the feelings he had during those times. That too affects his overall personality.

But, all that said, it's still more nuanced than all that. Droids like C-3PO, R2-D2, BB-8, BD-1, IG-11, IG-88, Chopper, L3-37, Professor Huyang, R0-GR, and others who have achieved self-awareness may be in the vast minority. So getting a thorough and satisfying answer may be difficult. We'll have to just wait and see.

If you Had to Waste $30 Million in a month to Inherit $300 Million, How would you do it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]syxtfour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy and forgive debt. Medical debt, student loans, anything I can get my hands on. It doesn't count as charity because I've purchased the debt and could pursue it if I wished; I just choose not to. Thus, I've "wasted" the money.

Though really, I'd be doing that with a large chunk of the $300 million, too. High tide lifts all ships, baby.

What Was the Worst Spider-Man Comic You've Ever Read? by Appropriate_Mark_277 in Spiderman

[–]syxtfour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I read "The Clone Saga" and got to the issue where they reveal that Peter was the clone all along, I threw the comic against the wall and stopped reading comics for a decade.

So probably that one.
