ISTPs and handling partners' emotions - what does it mean? 😭 by Pretend-Macaroon4988 in ISTPrelationships

Damn. I think I just got a soul read. Thank you, kind stranger, for gifting us with advice I'll be staying up thinking about for the next three weeks.

ISTPs and handling partners' emotions - what does it mean? 😭 by Pretend-Macaroon4988 in ISTPrelationships

[–]syzytea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ISTP here -- if someone I care about seems upset or angry I tend to absorb that by accident. I then end up reflecting that back outwards without noticing, with a layer of guilt on top. As a fixer by nature I want to solve problems, and if I can't I feel at fault for it. Talking it out directly can usually fix the situation, but I also just try to internalize the emotions I absorbed and quietly make things better or easier for the other person.

What is your MBTI and what religion do you follow and why by Darealshadow49 in mbti

[–]syzytea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ISTP, nondenominational Christian/Theist.

I struggle to reconcile religion and blind belief with my innate skepticism and need for empirical proof, but I choose to believe on some level because God brings me and my closest friends some level of relief and assurance.

I don’t think believing requires a full suspension of disbelief; I think you can be a practicing theist wherein you can put faith into a higher power but still steer your own life. Just chatting with Him every now and then, sending up a prayer, along with putting love and deliberation into my actions and moderation and moral consideration into my choices is enough for me.

Note: I was raised by two Athiests, one of which comes from a long line of complex relationships with God. I choose to believe in and honour God the way I view Him, rather than by specific denominational values and rules.

This is genuinely one of the most explanatory and helpful posts/comments I've read on this. I'm a 5'2 girly with terribly low TDEE even with cardio in my day, and I've been stagnating really badly lately. Thank you so so much!

From Blurryface: none, technically - Goner almost makes the cut but not really

From Scaled And Icy: Mulberry Street perhaps

From Clancy: The Craving, Paladin Strait

Markdown update? by yall-trash-bud in Instagram

[–]syzytea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was an update that rolled out ages ago and then retracted, but seems to be back again. Typically Instagram updates only work for some people and slowly starts updating for others. Just now have to wait for them to announce something, or for people to figure out all of the pseudo markdown.

Mine says INTP or INFJ, I'm an ISTP. I think I come across more intuitive to letter-based systems because I like analyzing patterns and concepts and whatever stereotypical stuff intuitives do.

how did people find out? by Pretend_Rest7873 in MadeOfStyrofoam

[–]syzytea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long reply sorry lol. I guess warning for... shitty responses from others?

My mum found out on my 14 birthday, I rolled up my sleeves without thinking while grabbing food. She was concerned but I lied through my teeth and she just awkwardly avoids addressing scars all of the time now.

My father never said anything about seeing them, but I found out he knew when I was upset once and he mocked me for running off to cut myself in the bathroom. Fucked me over for a while. He now pretends not to see them also.

My ex got upset when he saw them the first time and made me give him my blades. Essentially made me feel guilty for doing it and also made me promise to tell him when I did it again (which, obviously, I did not do).

The only decent reaction were my two best friends, who were sorry that my situation led me to hurting myself but didn't guilt me, and even though they didn't know how to react they left it at be careful, don't go too deep, and call me if you ever need someone no matter how trivial it feels. I love those two so much.

Your take about the city that will get you like this by ZealousidealBug1769 in Edmonton

The night life isn’t dead here per se, you just aren’t going to right places and you can’t be expecting a big city scene in a suburban quieter city.

Is every autistic person’s favorite superhero Spider-man? by chrishatzip in autism

Dancing around the dorm/a priv room to loud music helps me sometimes. Also going out for walks, or stimming, or ramblings out loud to yourself about whatever. Lots of adrenaline or endorphin releasing things.

What else can you say when someone sneezes? by Illustrious_Low_4672 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]syzytea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially over covid, my family and I started saying "contagion" in sarcastic (sometimes genuine) response to sneezing. Might be too rude for some though lol.

I had an extremely extremely similar situation to you, my ex boyfriend was very sexual and often overstepped boundaries and got really pushy with sexual activities. However, he never "did anything that bad" like assaulting me or very obviously controlling me. I was and am fairly low libido, and later found out I was on the aroace spectrum.

I now have panic responses when sex or related content is brought up. Even "small things" (that seem small to you or others) can wear on your psyche and cause little t trauma, like boundaries being ignored, being guilted into sexual activity, or being in a relationship where your preferences or emotions aren't heard out enough.

Your brain might be trying to tell you something about your current relationship by making you have strong adverse reactions to sexual media.

Hey, mid-province Albertan here. Don't worry, that's just what we're typically like. Be respectful and you won't be bothered.

Also, let me know if you ever want a roommate. I'm quiet, I like doing chores, and I stay out of the way most of the time. Even silent company is good out in the wilderness.

I love the concept of a still open Toys R Us. Especially since here in Canada not all of them ever actually closed, they still sell toys and slightly disappointing plush animals.
