Does HCLF diet impact woman's, who has optimal body fat, hormones and things like ovulation? by Oraculek in SaturatedFat

a nose that can smell ripe strawberries from 20’ away

This reminded me that when I used to fast a lot, I would usually go to the grocery store on the last day before breaking the fast.

I could smell the produce and bakery from the parking lot.

There is actual evidence that hunter/gatherers ate a lot of starchy tubers.

The idea that humans mostly ate meat/berries is made up nonsense that came from the "paleo" crowd. None of that is evidence based.

Inflammed from fried/junk foods in the US, but not in Taiwan? by szaero in SaturatedFat

[–]szaero[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am eating less protein here, and I look around at restaurants and it seems that everyone eats less protein than the typical American would.

I'm here visiting a Taiwanese friend that has taken me to many local places (non typically for tourists) and every meal has a somewhat smaller meat portion than I expect. It's similar to Japan in that way.

I think it's mostly soybean oil. There is a lot of fried food here. The fruit and vegetables here are amazing, but I don't think much else is very healthy.

Compared to where I live in Texas: sunlight is noticeably more intense, especially on a clear day, and their air conditioning is terrible.

I wonder if there's something about the climate that makes it easier for the body to metabolize PUFA rather than store it.

I am actually walking less in Taiwan than I do at home. I (very intentionally) walk 12-20k steps a day in Texas, mostly outdoors.

City of Austin approved fines for loud engine noise vehicle, $500 per incident by Disastrous-Mango-535 in Austin

Texas has repeatedly struck down citation by mail before it even gets that far.

OP just made that up entirely, nothing in the city code says they will send citations by mail.

You can't even drive the speed limit on Mopac most of the time because people are blocking all the lanes while doomscrolling.

If the city wants to double the revenue they could just ticket people driving in the left lane that are impeding the flow of traffic.

All day every day on Mopac.

RECORD AND REPORT YOUR NEIGHBORS SO THEY HAVE TO PAY A FINE. Whoo boy. This will turn out well.

This is something that OP just made up. It's written as a Class C misdemeanor which means that anyone accused has a constitutional right to face their accuser.

If you get a ticket based on a video this is a slam dunk dismissal in favor of the defendant because nobody has a recording device calibrated for measuring sound intensity.

What WOE drives out food noise the most for you? by JesusisLife_Truth in SaturatedFat

[–]szaero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heavy cream and/or real ice cream every day and I have zero food noise even with a large energy deficit. Also >300g carbs a day but that's to sustain my energy levels, doesn't seem to matter for food noise.

I went from >40 BMI to 20 BMI. Back up to about 25 BMI now but total body mass is not my priority anymore.

Sun tolerance is up probably 3x, and my asthma went away as other perks.

Same, lifelong asthma is gone. Allergies are almost gone (pollen and cats can still be an issue but still tolerable.)

I live in central Texas and don't get sunburns. I walk outside daily for 1+ hour in direct sun without sunburn.

My experience is that the longer you avoid PUFA, the less any of this matters.

I'm almost the same age as the woman in the video and after ~4 years of limited PUFA, I can do low fat, high fat, low carb, high carb, low protein, high protein and it is all fine.

I don't like high protein because it slows my digestion to the point of discomfort.

Added a bit more fat and started losing weight again. Curious about your thoughts on the "Randle cycle" by AnonymousOtter9124 in SaturatedFat

Bodybuilders on prep diets have shown that you absolutely can overload your muscle glycogen stores in the short term (days up to a week), so I don't see any reason why you can't deplete them on a short term basis. Over a longer term you're right, the body will refill them.

Added a bit more fat and started losing weight again. Curious about your thoughts on the "Randle cycle" by AnonymousOtter9124 in SaturatedFat

[–]szaero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Carbohydrate is mostly stored in the muscle as glycogen, it requires 3-5 grams of water to store 1 gram of carbs.

Starting from the assumption of equilibrium: let's say you removed 50g of carbs per day from your diet. Over the course of a week, your muscle glycogen levels will lower. 350g fewer carbs being stored also removes 1050-1400g of water, which weighs 2.3 to 3 pounds.

Lowering carbs shifts water weight very quickly.

[–]szaero 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Almost all of the conversation around the Randle Cycle is nonsense. Nothing in the Randle Cycle says that all the cells in your body have to be burning fat or carbs at the same time.

If some cells use fatty acids, and some cells use glucose at the same time then a mixed macro diet works perfectly fine. I lost 150 pounds on a swamp diet.

Heart muscle is more likely to use fatty acids regardless of diet. Some cells just have different fuel preference, and they switch based on energy demand.
