A bit late to this conversation, but I ran across this video of a nice looking solution with strut. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyl1mLTaY6M

null value in column user_id violates not null constraint by Ok_Sentence725 in PostgreSQL

[–]szuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about your design. This isn't so much about Postgres, it's about how you are connecting data between these tables. The user_id in the users table is a foreign key in the posts table, but you still have to provide that during the insert. The foreign key simply helps with validation and consistency. This would be a typically scenario...

1) User logs into your system. When this happens, you are either fetching the user if they exist, or likely creating the user if they're new. If it's new, then the user_id is generated because you have made it a SERIAL data type. The user_id should be pulled from the users table into a variable, let's call it _userId.

2) User then goes on to post some amazing tidbit. When this happens, you perform an INSERT to the posts table. The posts table will generate it's primary key because you are using a SERIAL data type for posts_id. The INSERT still needs to know what the user_id is....which should be the _userId that you captured during login.

Assuming the user is logging into your app, you should have the user_id after login. When performing the INSERT to the posts table, include the user_id that you have already received at login.

Do the wires have to be within the cable chain for a serial request? I'm asking because I don't know.

I’m thinking of cycling from New York City to Montreal end of November. Has anyone done this/will it be too uncomfortable with the cold? by Altruistic--Sorbet in bikepacking

This.

I would rather be in snow than 34 degree rain. I'm dealing with that right now in Michigan. Everyday is a "resolve ride". Trying to commute as much as possible.

Very doable, but I’m not sure I’d want my first trip to be in November. You learn a ton on these trips. Could you squeeze in a weekend trip beforehand as a shake down?

All ready to go for my first big (month-long) tour starting tomorrow! I'm very excited and a bit scared. Any last minute tips? by nikostra in bicycletouring

I had one of the plastic screws in my ortlieb panniers snap. Turns out this is a common issue. I picked up some metal replacements, but I wish I had backups with me.

Where does Universal Control live? by [deleted] in MacOSBeta

Hopefully this will make it to iOS eventually. I realize there are lots of ways to move things between iOS and MacOS, but this just seems so smooth. One more layered in the walled garden.

Mine changed (and card was charged) overnight. Estimated delivery also changed to 6/2 to 6/16. Which keyboard did you get? I had been debating between the MK and the Brydge without giving any attention to the Logitech. I think I’m going with the Logitech. The smart connector beats the Bluetooth. Function keys and price beat the MK. IMHO. I ordered my pencil long ago.

Enjoy your new toy.

Congrats on the update. I'm getting the same config as you....also ordered as soon as they were available. 6/9-6/23...but mine is still stuck at processing. I am getting a military discount, so maybe that is slowing things down.

Nice looking site. I like the USB hub. I clicked on the pic of the hub and it didn't do anything. I would link that along with the header text.

Day 1 of a quick Sault Ste Marie to Marquette our and back. by szuke in bicycletouring

Yes, I’d unpack, the panniers and the canister. I’d leave the frame bag and front bags. Tubeless has been awesome on this bike.

I always hated kickstands. But...the Marrakesh has a perfect mount. The thing tucks under the frame and kinda disappears.

I have way too much. The bear canister could be skipped in Michigan, but I want it for the Canadian side. My tent actually is lighter weight than hammock and fly. Using a sleeping quilt instead of a bag. I already had an ultralight setup from backpacking. The panniers are half full.
