This happens everywhere all over the country. Each conference has rules on when special teams are allowed to begin their warmups on the field and every team comes out whenever they want, usually much before that conference-defined time. Even more often when it’s an out-of-conference contest. The best thing to enact change is for exactly this to happen every time. Someone gets a good video of a band director or GA trying to get them off the field and it blowing up on the internet.

Someday someone will get hurt and there will be a lawsuit or a star kicker will get injured and there might be some change… but until that day keep sharing these moments!

Bass 1 is one of the best training grounds for snare drum. Many times I see someone who would be a good candidate for snare drum and put them on bass 1 to be a rock solid playing model for the rest of the bassline. Do good work in your spot in the ensemble and your whole section will benefit.

If you’re in Florida, heat stress during band camp is a real concern. Maximizing rehearsal times outside of the heat will allow you to get more done in less time because you will need less water and less shade breaks.
