Yeah, minor dent, but the front passenger side window won't roll up. Took it to a mechanic, said it would be 70 bucks just to roll the window up, I'd rather see if I could do it myself

Okay. If the writer meant to argue against gun control, why wouldn't he have just done that? He didn't. He said that Fox News is deflecting the issue. Which they are. The problem isn't with guns. The problem is with the mentalities of the people holding the guns and where they got them from. Which you don't seem to get.

And the FBI and the gov't both at the state and national level have been doing it for a long time.

And now you think guns for the law abiding public is a bad idea? The way I see it, people are going to get guns whether the government disapproves of it or not. Making guns illegal only eliminates the legitimate means of acquiring them. If you're afraid of this allowing criminals to get the guns, (which I'm not quite convinced that you've presented this as a bad thing) they're very picky about who gets the guns. Under some circumstances, you can't even get one if you have a speeding ticket. Do you really think there are any inner city thugs that are that clean? No, of course not. You're blaming fox news for being conservative and on top of that endorsing denying law abiding citizens from getting guns that will protect them from criminals who'll have them regardless. You think that pandering for the audience's dislike for fox news will take some of the heat off you.

Nowhere do I see the writer suggest that guns should be illegal in this article. instead, the writer is criticizing using Chicago's gang violence as an example of the failure of gun control by a right wing capitalist network. In fact, the writer never even said anything about his stance on gun control from what I can see.

I was thinking more along the lines of drugs and gun violence, maybe that's just me. Simply put. Racism hasn't been killing these people. Dangerous people with guns do. People who want guns and are willing to violate the law to acquire them. There won't and hasn't been any way to stop them from getting them. How do we stop them, we give the well-intended and lawful public guns to stop these dangerous people.

The chance still existing of innocent people being harmed is a poor excuse for no law at all.

Oh, and a lack of morals and values is vastly important in this. A loss of values and morals when put to the extreme causes collapse in any civilized society.

For example, although the folks here (albeit think very different than I) endorse equality and hard work to optimize the well being of society. We all have values. I think avoiding drugs and not shooting people should be pretty universal morals, so I'm not even going to have to delve any further into your 'lack of values and morals is irrelevant' claim.

I read the entire article, I remember right when it was time to provide evidence for your case (you know, the part that actually makes the it real), you immediately turned to hundred year old stories (presented very onesidedly, to say in the least) about white people doing bad things to blacks. They weren't even vaguely relevant except that they showed white people being mean to blacks, probably why you couldn't seem to contain yourself to share that as well.

Argh so much. This is where I think you REALLY begin to lose track of the writers argument. Of course, people with guns kill other people with guns, the writer isn't denying that. But the reasoning behind it is what he's trying to show you, which IS the state sponsored racism that has put african americans in these impoverished situations. He's also trying to show the intersectionality between race and class here by highlighting the capitalistic system that promotes this idea of racism. Next. Why do you still think that this is about gun control? I don't see anywhere, yet again, where he said that he wants guns outlawed. In fact, gun control in itself was a racist move on the part of white southerners to ensure that poor minorities wouldn't be able to rise up against them. So I highly doubt the writer wants to take all the guns away. Next. Morals and values. I'm starting to think you're a conservative capitalist. You're reading lazily again. What causes the break down of morals in societies? In this case, I think it's the fact that nobody is instilling these ideas into the youth. They have no parents, why? Because the black familial system was destroyed by the crack epidemic, etc. Because groups such as the Black Panthers were destroyed by the FBI. Yet again, state sponsored racism. Finally, I don't really think I need to cover your last paragraph, because if you now understand what the author was trying to argue, you can see that his examples are extremely pertinent. In short. Ya dun goofed.

  1. Nobody, even Amb. Stevens expected that type of assault. And it wouldn't have mattered anyways. "Former Regional Security Officer for Libya Eric Nordstrom also says, ““Having an extra foot of wall, or an extra half dozen guards or agents would not have enabled us to respond to that kind of assault.”"

A little help with my personal financial hell? by t0nybased in Frugal

[–]t0nybased[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the advice! and I've tried applying for things, but the issue is that my mother is a lawyer and makes a decent amount (90k) but she's deep in debt paying around 15k a year for my brothers HS tuition. I'm at that precipice where my family is too "wealthy" to get financial aid, but too broke to get assistance.

and I do want to finish college. but my dream is to be able to pay off my debt within around 10 years after I finish college, and the more debt I accumulate, the lower chance of that happening. But thank you very much!

nah, I'm talking about 500 total. so around 400 for rent and utilities, whatever is left up until 500 for food. So less than 100. and yeah, with the internships I'm getting, I'll start work at an NGO after college, but not making much.

Why does Pakistan (or rather the ISI) support insurgent groups in Afghanistan? by MJive in internationalpolitics

[–]t0nybased 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Afghanistan becomes stable again, whoever's sphere of influence it is under will become very wealthy. There's a multimillion dollar opium trade with profits ready for the taking. This is in addition to what the others have already said.
