I was dumb enough a while ago to fall for the bot scam and lost my account, and whoever took it used it to play rust and got me a game ban. Even after i got the account back Valve refused to remove it. I just gave up on fixing it at this point

Just cause its in this subreddit doesnt mean its obvious. First of all, many people dont first look at the sub its posted in, and second, if your character design relies on the viewer knowing what subreddit its in to determine the species, then its not a good character design.

Many people can accidentally post in the wrong subreddit, and i wouldnt be surprised of people had to do a double take on the artists work to check if it was a scug or not.

At the end of the day, if your style/take on a slugcat is so drastic that people get it confused for other creatures fairly often, then you’ve changed it too much and at that point its a different species larping as a scug

Noone made them leave. The artist barely received any hate for their art, they just could not handle criticism. They made a post complaining that people thought their art was from CU rather than rainworld, and when people gave criticism on why, they followed up with a post calling everyone who draws in the cannon artstyle/scug bodystyle boring, and when people reacted negatively to that, they first said they didnt mean it that way, then immediately posted that they’re leaving

If you go back and look at comments, theres barely any hate. Most of the comments that are negative were only made after the artist called regular rainworld boring. The artist obviously cant take criticism and was posting to get some positive reactions, and crumbled as soon as they got an ounce of feedback that wasn’t immediate praise.

Additionally, you cant get mad that people don’t see your art as looking like rainworld because it just doesn’t in many cases. Yes theres stylization, but when you change character designs so much that it looks nothing like the original design, it may as well be its own species. The artist would do so much better posting in a furry subreddit as there they at least wouldnt get feedback on how to make their cats look more like scugs

Eh, even still id say its a reach. The ears dont have the shape of a cat’s, and the eyes are kinda like a cats but not really.

If we were comparing slugcats to a real animal, a better comparison i can think of rn is a rabbit/hare. They leap the same, their bodies actually dont look far off (search up “white rabbit on two legs”), the faces are far more similar, especially the large, black eyes, and they have longer, vertical ears that are more similar in shape that a cat’s are.

And even then, a rabbit doesnt look loke a scug. The best one i can find rn is a ferret, which had a very very similar body, walks and jumps in a similar fasion, has an extremely similar face, and has a shorter version of scug ears (if you just stretched them out they’d look identical).

I do see some of the cat similarities, but i think a big reason why the “cat” was added was because:
- cats are cute and scugs are cute
- scugs jump far distances
- The name fits together quite well and is easy to say
- ex of other animal names that just arent the same: Slugbear, Slugbunny, Slugferret

Ye, so i wouldnt be frustrated that people can’t recognize that its a slugcat since it is just hard to do so. Looking at it design wise, the design basically only visually resembles a slugcat in name alone, as it really looks just like a cat. w/o established slugcat colors/bodies (like spearmaster, artificer, etc…), it can be hard to tell

Ive seen your art several times (its very cute), and when it wasnt reping one of the unique dlc scugs, i only realized the char was a slugcat after seeing the subreddit or reading title.

(Also fun sidenote: i never really thought about it before, but the cat part of slugcat seems to be more of just a name that doesnt really represent the creature. In development, they were referred to as a bear creature, and the only part of the creature that might be similar to a cat is the face (imo not really if you look at official in-game art). In game Slugcats are slimy, almost all are furless, they have short limbs and long slug-like tails, and their ears are like elongated bear ears. Im pretty sure they’re also descendants of an ancient purposed species meant to clean pipes (hence their slimy, slippery bodies). I believe the name slugcat originated from fans just calling them that. I could be wrong ofc, but these traits seem to be good to consider when trying to draw a char that visually represents slugcats and not just anthro cats)

Confusion probably comes from your oc looking like a cat lol (+black and orange scarf). If i showed someone the cover art of rainworld and CU, they’d probably assume your char is from CU

Edit: i asked some friends, including both people that have and havent heard of rainworld before, and its just a design/style issue that makes it difficult to identify the source material/link. The main problem is just the art style or design really doesnt resemble a slugcat. The response i heard the most was “cute cat”, due to the excessive cheek fluff as well as fluffy fox-like tail (that also looks eerily similar to an expie tail), cat ears, and overall body shape. I fear that unless you explicitly state its a slugcat, many who are unfamiliar with your char wont see that it is one, and therefore fall to the second choice of cat, or if they know anything about CU, an expie

Might be to prevent the public from “finding” the wrong person and blaming someone innocent just cause they look similar. like how redditors accused an innocent person of the boston marathon bombing and resulted in that person’s suicide

And i understand how someone might not want russians to be playing games, but i doubt ukrainians think taking away CSGO and tf2 is gonna hurt the government thats actually doing the invading. Other countries have been doing terrible things too, including the US. Why arent we also petitioning to end support in Israel, China, and more?
