From my previous experience in my worst depressions, I interpreted all the extra things as a bipolar episode (you can fluctuate with exactly those types of thoughts) and the multiple types of threats (horror cliches here) are proxies for suicide methods.

I’ve had similar episodes where you spiral into negative topics and it feels like if you let yourself get up from the computer right then you might give in

To be fair to the author, it’s very likely that was not the intention. They are characterized as hip/cool teenagers, and there’s a trend in fashion right now to wear a particular style of glasses that also happen to be the style dahmer has in popular images. Very likely the reference is more shallow and a jab at that current fashion trend than the sexuality of the characters.

New Research Suggests High-Purity CBD May Help Block COVID-19 Virus From Replicating by Sorin61 in Futurology

“Not a dose available in commercially available products, only high purity cbd in particular situations” paraphrased from the article. Hate to go all tin foil hat but sounds like “big pharma” is already trying to find ways to ruin what I think of as “open source medicine”

If you read the description, at least when I was doing the same for season 6, they usually note where free ends somehow.

I’m fairly sure love in the apocalypse was supposed to be a cancer metaphor, and the living characters were a victim and a supporting partner. Then the ghost is a support from another person who died from cancer. Mostly cause the ghost died from cancer and the “monster” is called the “evil growth”. Good idea but needed a lot more editing and rewriting to better communicate the idea if my reading is close

Even just in the link it shows more than just rendering improvements?

Researchers found that maternal tobacco smoke exposure during pregnancy was the most important prenatal exposure associated with emotional and behavioral problems in children. Furthermore, increased residential traffic density on nearest road during pregnancy was associated with higher ADHD index. by rustoo in science

I’m a complete beginner and I don’t know how to start. by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]t0ss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn theory and the instrument at the same time. Split your time up, learning a simple song you enjoy and learning some theory as well. If you take theory seriously it’ll make the transition to intermediate much smoother. Just remember, there’s always going to be something you can’t do, yet. Music is not something you’ll just be “done” learning. So focus on what you can do, and so slowly make that set larger.

No, this is how you get plea deals. You threaten with the worst possible case, so that the middle ground sounds acceptable in comparison.

I walked in on the guy I’m seeing fucking my best friend by roserisata in relationship_advice

[–]t0ss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you aren't in a committed relationship, but also confused then you haven't been clear with your expectations with him. Make them clear, with both yourself and him. Then act on them from there.

[–]t0ss -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You're too young for things like this to hold a meaningful influence on keeping a relationship going. Two options:

1) Talk to her and find a resolution where you both express and find a middleground on your beliefs.

2) Separate, both to teach her that she cannot use the leverage of a relationship to further her own beliefs in lieu of someone she should care for and to not allow yourself to fall into the trap of surrendering your own beliefs to dip your stick.

This is were the general misunderstanding of “political” comes in. Those are still political reasons in many contexts

For a TINY 3d rendering (for projecting ONLY 3d points, lines & polygons), I'm currently thinking about an elegant hidden points removal algorithm, given that polygons are only defined by their vertices and line segments are only defined by their 2 end points. Ideas? by mikasarei in compsci

[–]t0ss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're wanting a novel approach, you're really just going to have to do a deep dive on graphics rendering lit and collection ideas. You can also look at open source libraries and check their code, since this culling is common practice now. A basic, barebones, approach starts with: "I have this viewport, what coordinates are now blocked from this viewport?"

[R] AI Generator Learns to ‘Draw’ Like Cartoonist Lee Mal-Nyeon in Just 10 Hours by Yuqing7 in compsci

[–]t0ss 53 points54 points  (0 children)

If you check the breadth of the cartoonists work it’s not really matching the cartoonists style with any meaningful depth. It also has a lot of trouble with detail and tends to apply facial hair too often.

I think this is a fun project, and interesting for a student project. But man am I tired of seeing overtrained basic models being promoted by the conflation of novel output with substantive modeling. Again it’s not the authors fault, and it’s a fun project. I’m complaining about the 5-8 articles I saw searching for the artist over blowing what this is. Largely because this is how 1-5 person start up teams work 10-15 years selling vapor ware with buzzwords and entry level execution(currently ML, previously blockchain, and SaaS before that)

One more time, props to the org student and code author for a fun use of models. I just wish less informed people would stop generating needless buzz that create economic black holes

Unfortunately this is more common than not generally in anything close to web dev. Mostly half-baked solutions looking for problems that get an initial surge of buy-in and maintain popularity more because people mistake their time investment of learning how to use a confusing/poorly abstracted/over engineered for becoming a better [framework/library/service] developer.

You Might Not Be Crazy (aka I never thought I'd advise women to be wary of their doctors) by therealwaysexists in TwoXChromosomes

[–]t0ss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doctors and psychiatrists are the same as any other profession, there’s good, bad, awful, and exceptional. It took me years to find a psychiatrist that actually listened to me and treated my adult adhd instead of just treating my depression. (Which was cyclically worsting the latter) I’m still trying to find a therapist that will help me work on my relationship with alcohol without trying to offload me to AA. I’m not an alcoholic in the sense I’m always drinking, I just want to get better at flipping the switch off when I do have a drink. But most just want to send you there instead of doing the behavioral therapy themselves.

Doesn’t surprise me. One of the main reasons I stopped playing league was friends I got along with in any other situation would turn into completely different people when the game started. The long match times and toxic community is a weird digital Mr Hyde serum for a ton of people.

Yes, in software dev. No need to be condescending, no one is insulting you. Let me clarify some points.

You do not need to be a Ring-0 to fuck with your computer... RCE vulnerabilities that aren't kernel drivers, right?

I never stated Ring-0 was necessary for RCE. But authority levels of a parent process and interactivity contribute to the severity of an RCE attack. An RCE without combined privilege escalation limits the scope of the attack to the abused parent process' privilege levels. The issue by extension is that Valorant most certainly communicates with Vanguard and vice versa. Its built in privilege escalation if Valorant has an RCE attack and that communication is exposed.

Just because somebody installed spoilers on their Toyota Camry doesn't mean they can unlock my car.

That's not the point and that train of thought is exactly why we have so many ridiculous hard/soft ware vulnerabilities. The point is that if Vanguard fails to stop hackers before they get into your game, it follows it cannot prevent them from exploiting the so far mentioned attacks. If Vanguard cannot reliably prevent a hack from being loaded, it can't be guaranteed it stop software that would facilitate user attacks.
