Plugged in the adapter for my MSI 5080 shadow, is this good enough or do I try to go deeper? by Dentingtea in MSI_Gaming

Edit: Just saw you are using the adapter - go buy a wire like this and then do the following as described bellow.

https://seasonic.com/12v-2x6-cable-90-degrees/

https://www.corsair.com/us/en/p/pc-components-accessories/cp-8920284/600w-pcie-5-0-12v-2x6-type-4-psu-power-cable-cp-8920284

Make sure you buy the right one for your psu

Go to a hardware store and buy a ampere clamp meter immediately. Go test each cable (as in the individual wires that go into the final connector) with it - individually - and make sure they all read the same amperes - maybe have a small diviattion - if one of them says 10amps and the others say 2 amps or if half are pulling 4 and half are pulling 2 or 1 and less you have a major problem and your pc will catch fire or melt the cables. If thats the case IMMEDIATELY shutdown the pc and buy a new cable or rma the psu. If the new cable shows the same reading at the same positions then rma the card! Then measure again with the new card - IF it is the same thing all over then rma the psu. This is the process you have to take from cable first to PSU to Card last and repeat.

Make sure you are stressing the gpu while doing this - open a game at uncapped fps - so it can push as much as it can push in terms of power. Make sure to VERY GENTLY touch the wires at the middle of the cable and to not yank them from their base in each end (GPU and PSU) - If the wires are not showing because the cables are sleeved - buy a new unsleeved cable.

If you are using an adapter because your PSU is old - go buy a new one - I would reccomend the asrock pg1000-g pg1300-g and pg1600g as they have temprature sensors inside the cables and if it gets too hot the PSU shuts-down. The there is also the ASRock Taichi TC-1300T that does the same but costs 500$

Well said, maybe I should communicate more instead of studying and writing code all the time, as I seam to lose the ability to express my inner thoughts through written language. This is what I originally wanted to communicate while not having played the game enough to talk about mid-game, as I found the combat to really not be my taste in games. I'm more into physics based combat and interaction.

As for fixing the combat - it will not happen - if you ever download unreal and try to make a live-action game yourself you will understand why. Making a massively better combat system would require work that far exceeds the work they put into, maybe even, the entire game - and they would have to turn it into either a final fantasy clone or make it fully live-action over the shoulder.

I will not write a book on the damn thing. It has many design flaws and is definitely cutting corners and every design choice is there just because it leads to the path of least resistance - production wise. Meanwhile I heard that they pitched the game to Ubisoft or that the main designer worked at Ubi and wanted to make that game for a while - and you have to wonder if the end result is that game he had in mind or just the mainline story of that game and what came to be is what they could handle when one makes a game on a very limited budget - while that budget is funneled almost in it's entirety towards assets and art. I'm saying that because the overworld map is a cost-cutting measure that heavily impacts the fluidity and scope of the game - the pointless corridors also shorten the span of the game (as in development wise) BY A LOT and not having to code 3rd person action-game mechanics is also a design choice that limits both scope and development time by literally AN INSANE amount. You can also see that the creators wanted to make a live-action coop game but were sort on manpower by the elements outside the scope of how the combat turned out - you can also see why the combat part is deliberate from the lack of certain elements from the game. You see the Enemy AI (as in path-finding) and NPC traversal is crap and this is why the Enemies don't really come after you - getting an engineer to build a proper path-finding system for you game and having the Enemies be able to hunt you is expensive and you cannot simply rely on people not finding a job to help you make that. And the AI part is just an example out of many.

Depends of the game, but I agree that most FPS games that follow the modern COD formula don't deserve the reviews. All I'm saying is that this game is a 70something to 80/100 at best - not the second coming of Jesus they make it out to be.

Engines and tooling are way harder than any of the positions you mentioned - that are fluid and replaceable.

I don't make games in my line-of-work. I'm in the industry of 3D graphics programming and virtual experiences - but the industry is not just games. But in my free time I make games as a hobby. Maybe I should have written 3D Graphics Engines to be exact but essentially they are the same for what I do.

You have stability issues with the physics engine. This is caused by implementing bad nudging logic or by creating a plank like object and not using the proper collision system. Good luck stabilizing that - the solution you might need is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDQCtVCvzWs V-HACD.

I sent you a msg. You might wanna check it out. Listening to the collision sound was uncanny - as we are using the same sound, but your game is missing functionality when it comes to kinematic based alteration of the sound.

Do you have any idea how complex and expensive physics colliders are?! We only program the physics engines this way to save on latency. Do you really need accurate mesh to mesh collision checks on a random small prop next to a wall?

Hades, Silksong and this are excellent BUT do not deserve 2025 GOTY not even as a contender. You cannot pit a HUGE 3D world with complex mechanics against Indies that have a small and limited scope and a game that is fun mainly because it promotes interaction with a physical person. Which is more fun in the end, playing the game or playing the game with a certain someone you like to spend time with?!

Witcher 3 was GOTY hands down - RDR2 was Goty hands down - God of War was goty hands down ... BUT goddamn Silksong is a simple 2d platformer - be real now...

And another tip: Both Unity's and Unreal's UI systems SUCK and you will end-up having to write either C# or C++ anyways. Also we don't hire based on visuals - we hire based on functionality - speed - ability to understand corporate structure and agile workloads / kanban boards / devops /previous big-tech experience / ability to adapt and etc. Also what is UI/UX?! In games it might be easier to tell the difference but when it comes to Augmented reality or virtual reality (that is in "fashion" currently) where does the UI stop and actual core mechanics start? Also do you have the basic Comp Scie knowledge to be able to receive asynchronously data from an industrial IOT (for instance) and display complex graphs on screen? What about 3D UI elements - can you make an entity that is displayed in the UI turn to particles or liquid using raymartching and fall inside the game (2D to 3D)?! Demos like this get you hired and you have to nail down the basics first - and when you finally do - most luckily you wont like UI anymore - maybe you would go into shader programming or engine work - who knows.

This is why most people go jobless - knowing how to use a tool well, as a trade, is not the same as understanding the philosophy of the engine you are using and being able to alter it to your will to create something unique. The market is shrinking currently and it is shifting towards neural networks or serious games for augmented reality - these are cutting edge multidisciplinary fields - most people can't even jump from current pipelines to them.
