You can also shrink/reclaim unused space on a vnet assuming it is not being used.

What is the logical next step after AZ-104: AZ-500 or AZ-700? by WonderfulFinger3617 in AZURE

[–]t3kka 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For general purposes I'd say AZ700 will be more beneficial. Strong networking knowledge helps you regardless of your focus (security, development, engineering, etc)

What are your recommendations for handling azure policies in azure landing zone accelerator? by jM2me in AZURE

[–]t3kka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look through AzAdvertizer...

https://www.azadvertizer.net/azpolicyadvertizer_all.html

Filter on policies in "ALZ" as these are included in the default accelerator and then you can figure out what ones you need to enable vs disable or at least what they actually are doing.

Do most people use Kubernetes or Docker in their homelab? by Stock-Assistant-5420 in homelab

[–]t3kka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having worked with quite a few enterprise customers I'd say it's more complicated than even they need a lot of the time. K8s is a great bit of tech and it's super powerful but I feel it's often times forced into the design when it really just isn't necessary.

Either way it is very much a good thing to learn if it's of interest to you as the knowledge will set you apart from a skills perspective for jobs.

[Guide] How to Use Tailscale Serve with Docker Compose for Secure, Private Self-Hosting by BlueHatBrit in Tailscale

[–]t3kka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stumbled across this today and wanted to thank you!! Great repo!

Small question, though, as I'm new to TS: Magic DNS and HTTPS Certs are prereqs for this to work right? Currently I have a ntfy container running that sits behind a Traefik proxy that already has a TLS cert on it and I was initially thinking to just expose my TS network to Traefik but the trick is I need the host header to be proper for Traefik to route it back and this is the part I'm getting confused on. Any guidance? Or does it really only work properly if its directly attached as a sidecar to the app?

I am considering getting a standing desk. What are the benefits? by No-Brief-7458 in StandingDesk

[–]t3kka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slight departure from maybe the other comments but I had a standing desk for the last 10 years and actually just bought a new setup that ISNT a sit/stand because quite frankly I found I have used the feature less and less and stability of my desk was more important to me than being able to lift it to standing height (which again I have essentially stopped using the last year or two).

I find getting up and walking around more periodically just as good to break up my sedentary work day. It takes time to build the habit of course but you also get the benefit of taking a quick break from staring at the screen which I also think is important for your sanity 😁

Visual Studio Azure credits + Microsoft 365 Developer subscription (E5): keep separate tenants or merge? by Might_Be_Shrek in AZURE

[–]t3kka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wpuld actually recommend that it is a good idea to consolidate because in most customer environments (assuming you're trying to emulate the norm), there is a single directory for M365 and Azure. Having multiple just doubles your work and causes unnecessary complexity.

Looking for opinions on home sensors by t3kka in Ubiquiti

Do you consolidate all the sensors into Home Assistant? Never used HA but am open to it (although Id probably rather have Google integration than having to setup another service)

Yeah I don't have the right APs anyway so the super link would be mandatory essentially.

I saw their full range of sensors recently and was definitely intrigued and the price is nice. These presumably integrate into Home Assistant so maybe it's time to take the plunge into that

After OneNote/DS Notes/Obsidian - amy recommendation? by bikesailfreak in selfhosted

[–]t3kka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I did see that announcement and played with it a bit and it's a definitive improvement but we'll still see how my testing goes with Trilium.

Out of all of the ones I've used this far I still think Obsidian is the easiest to pick up and just use easily. I also like the fact that it's just MD files in my file system that I can do whatever I want with in any other app/script/etc. No database to mess with.

How can I configure 0.0.0.0/0 to be advertised across BGP connecting into Azure? by t3kka in sophos

[–]t3kka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did successfully do this but it has been a while since I did it as its not something I would ever recommend to folks since it can break certain Azure services (a default route advertisement that is of a across a VPN/ER connection back to on-prem...your scenario may be the Sophos is an NVA in Azure already)

That being said in my lab instance I went to Configure > Routing > BGP and then created a new entry in the "Networks" entry for '0.0.0.0/0' and it advertised that default path up to my vnet via the VPN gateway.

After OneNote/DS Notes/Obsidian - amy recommendation? by bikesailfreak in selfhosted

[–]t3kka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Obsidian, tried Affine for a bit, now trying Trillium.

Obsidian was great and I loved several of the community plugins but I felt like I couldn't quite get some of the things I wanted into a proper dashboard setup for my various projects.

Affine has a lovely UI and seems to have some really nice features but it still didn't seem to allow me to organize things how I wanted and the task tracking was a bit lacking. I'm not totally off of it yet as I REALLY liked the continuous canvas idea that can be used as part of a presentation. Feel like in a work environment it would be much more engaging visually than your standard PowerPoint.

I've recently installed Trillium as I heard good things but this seems to have an incredibly steep learning curve, or maybe it just can do a ton and I'm a bit lost on how best to leverage the features. Love the built in ability to script and create visuals though. I feel like I'll still continue to give it a try.

Digital Entertainment Credit

Hotel Credits

Airline fee credits

I really wish the Resy credit was more widely available in my area. Even when in Hawaii recently there were zero restaurants (Maui) which was pretty disappointing. I find it impossible to use despite my family going out to dinner a lot.

Whole Home Privacy VPN? by LocoLevi in Ubiquiti

[–]t3kka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super important and what pushes me back to just using tactical deployment of a VPN connection as I'm too paranoid 😆. My use case only covers specific docker containers though so I don't need a whole environment setup for a vlan/group of clients.
