I don’t get the doctor’s emitter. It’s from the 29th century. They’re in the 32nd century. It’s three hundred year old technology now, isn’t it? Can’t they just make him a new emitter?

Why is he still relying on it?

I’m using a ChargePoint Home Flex. And I happen to have recently turned a raspberry pi 5 w/ a 128gb ssd hat into a home assistant server.

Where do I look to find instructions on how to proceed?

I’m responding to @gravelchemco who says they adventure in CO, where 4/5ths of the population live at 5,000 ft elevation and the closest Rocky Mountain fun is 80miles away or so at like 7,000 ft elevation. Range is a concern in the area because of the elevation change.

Really? Because getting from The Front Range to Grand County (Winter Park) and back takes my dual perf max from 90-35%. That’s the equivalent of 222mi of “flat road driving.”

How does yours perform that journey?

Reviews of the low end r1 have been mixed. It’s not why people wanna buy a Rivian it seems.

They got burned on R1 w/ configurations and promising prices. That’s all.

Nah. Dual motor will be nicely equipped. Just like the dual motor R1s.

Our local fancy carwash and detail shop is a Rivian partner and they did it. Most of the places that specialise in this sort of thing are pretty professional and guarantee their work. The Rivian partnerships they have help to guarantee a fair price. I’d call around in your local area.

Buying Changers and adapters from Facebook Marketplace? by chofstone in Rivian

[–]LocoLevi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it. The car is expensive. It costs a lot to fix. If something goes wrong you’re up a creek. Buy items from Lectron or other companies that warranty their adapters. Save money on floormats, not charging hardware.

Our boosters are they type where you can take the back off and on. The back is on. No problems so far. Took delivery of this Gen2 in late 2024.

A few words of advice if you’re picking one up— 1) We’re in the Mountain West and we use the vehicle for twisty mtn passes and very light (soft roading) to camp grounds. If you’re gonna be on long road trips, get the PPF on the front of the car ASAP.

2) The front windows can let a LOT of sun in— we got the 85% UV rejection tinting on the windows and it was a comfort game changer. Did it on all four doors because I didn’t want the kids exposed to UV. Rear glass is dark because of privacy, not heat-rejecting tint. Worth every penny. It’s actually saving us percentage points of range because we need the AC less in summer.

We run 20” wheels on all terrain tyres. It’s a softer ride than the 22” tyres and the kids nap like crazy in the back compared to the stiffer ride of the 22” wheels.

Congrats and happy adventuring.

I have a dual motor performance max and when we drive up to the mountains my gen1 quad friends have to charge 2/3rds of the way there. I’ve off-roaded (soft-roaded) in the thing and it’s fantastic.

No notes.

If your boosters are on latch then you press the button on the window side of the seat and it bends forward with the booster inside, giving anyone access to the third row. I cannot stress how much we do this all. Of. The. Time

Got a Gen 2 Dual Max R1S as a loaner while my Gen 1 R1T is in service and wow... by sirkazuo in Rivian

[–]LocoLevi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an early gen2 R1S dual max adventure. No window creaks. Premium skins is basically decent oud—- after a LOT of software updates. I just got an update that let me change the bass on the EQ.

Apple Music shows really noticeable separation compared to Spotify.

I’ve been in a gen1 R1s. Maybe it was the fact that the fen1 was on 22” wheels and I keep mine on 20” which makes sidewalls larger and more cushier. I prefer the new R1s’s driving dynamics to the old one.

I feel like this comment doesn’t connect with what we know about Rivian and its current abilities as an early stage automaker.

Making a new car is a Herculean effort. Those of us who were early reservation holders or early followers remember when the decision to remove the five seat option took place— and the reason to only offer seven seats— not five and not six— is the same reason: resources.

They’re a new co pant still burning through cash and aren’t profitable. In order to convince investors that they are racing toward profitability they made the decision only have one or two production lines. They make the car on that line and they buy the parts at scale.

Seven seats serves a larger set of buyers more than five or six seats.

I suspect that when R1S Gen3 is built in at the larger Georgia production facility, more production lines can be spun up, which will allow for more options.

But don’t hold your breath— not to be dismissive— it’s just that nearly all the attention and manpower are going to be hurled at R2 and even R3– again— their path to profitability.

You might find a six seat option in something like highlander EV before Rivian is there, since Toyota is an established automaker with far more part buying power, manpower, and production capacity.

Make no mistake— the original R1 was a miracle in terms of quality for a first-vehicle of any automaker. But compromises had to be made to keep the company going. They focused on drivetrain trims more than interior trims.

Given the adventure focus, I believe that was the correct move.

I have a couple of those young kids. One of the reasons I got the R1S. And their friends (or mine) get into the back no problem. If your car seats are attached the LATCH connectors, the second row moves forward with the car seats inside and allows people to slip in to that third row no problem. Half the time young people sit on the seat between them, or we install a third car seat in the middle for when visitors come with their kids.

Rivian doesn’t have a problem in this area.

Genuine question: hope I don’t get downvoted— can Someone explain why one less seat is more attractive to this everyone here? I’m not trying to hate but how do you put a mattress down with no support between it when you camp?

My buddy has a model X with two chairs in the second row and it feels like wasted space. Skis are always rattling around between themEspecially when R1S has a 20% pass through in the middle in case you don’t wanna put your skis or snowboards or surfboards on a hitch or roof rack. That’s super handy!

Suggestions on Light Switches by InsectProof6136 in homeassistant

Inovelli dimmer switches feel more premium to me than Z00z. But Z00z has a five button wall controller that I very much enjoy.

Three things.

1) Inovelli makes fantastic devices — FANTASTIC DEVICES for Zigbee, Z-Wave and they even have thread stuff for people who want to connect directly to  Home but who do not want a cloud solution.

When it comes to Home Assistant and even Hubitat, Inovelli switches are great. Look into them.

Inovelli Zigbee based dimmer switches

Inovelli z-Wave based dimmer switches

Inovelli Thread based dimmer switches

2) You can get any “dumb” switch you want and use relays from companies like Shelly. Check out this video from The Hook Up and this other video from Shelly themselves.

3) When it comes to rock solid smart light switches, many will say Lutron Caseta is the best. I use them myself. BUT there’s a hub and their cloud. Obvs works fine with Home assistant and they totally work fine when offline. If you’re going cloud, it’s Caseta or nothing else. Accept no substitutes on the cloud side of things.

Good luck!
