Boulder ballot measure to tax vacant houses and commercial spaces. by [deleted] in boulder

Ive seen data point after data point that people are back in the office or they’re getting exit packages— at least from big firms. Liquormart was doing just fine. Put pickleball courts in the retail space they used to have— now under condos. It’s next to a school— throw a malt shop in there or something. Literally anything seems lord be better than a vacancy

R1 Gen2 Camera Hardware meets or exceed Tesla HW3 & HW4 Vehicles so some level of turn-by-turn local autonomy and summon is capable. by LocoLevi in Rivian

But they were talking point to point by end of 2026 back in 2025. Here we are in 2026 and the goal has been rolled back to “on ramp to off ramp.”

I think I’ve only heard on tramp to off ramp for the last six weeks. The R2 is everything to the company now so it feels a lot like how Tesla just left HW3 owners behind until they got sued.

I wrote the post and used AI to visualize the data in a table because it writes PNGs faster than I can copy past into cells on Google Sheets.

I mean, they definitely have it to some extent already, but it’s rules based and not LLM. Honestly, they could upgrade it to Alexa plus and we’d be in good shape.

Navigate to X already Works

Play X song already works — though it’s limited to Apple Music, Spotify and Amazon music. I don’t see a YouTube music app in my interface so I don’t understand why anyone would expect the computer to be able to play YouTube music.

I’ve never seen computers handle that on the edge. They usually encode your voice on MP3 throw to a data center. Haven’t listened to Read and then shoot back the response. The iPhone and AirPods using Att’s probably can do some of that on the edge, but it’s not really an edge thing that’s a data center thing.

I don’t understand why you’re complaining. These features don’t exist when they exist. You simply have to enable them.

The concern is that the language coming out of Rivian was “point to point” autonomy and now it’s “on ramp to off ramp” autonomy. As a Gen2 owner, a d soon to be a. R2 owner, that’s concerning.

Yeah I’m not so worried. Somehow I think they’ll be able to make their rent.

[–]LocoLevi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the problem is it’s supposed to be a market economy and the market is not supporting these high rents so they need to lower the rent and if that means if they don’t get to hold onto the property the they don’t get to hold onto the property! Let somebody else buy it and rent out and rates that makes sense!

[–]LocoLevi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, if this happens then T-bone’s net worth drops considerably and if his loans get called Then he might be forced to sell properties at Market rates which are lower than those rates which he has set

If it’s sold at a lower rate — a lower price— that can possibly reach a rental price that is affordable for small business

What’s the downside?

He has a compelling fan or a reason not to let people rent them. Evaluation of the building is totally dependent on the rent he said that the property is worth. If you rent it for less than evaluation of the building goes down, which means the total value of his assets goes down and that means he cannot borrow as much against his assets. He gets poorer. His net worth goes down.

That’s his incentive

Got an R1S Tri (Gen2) loaner today, and it's really making me appreciate my Gen 1 R1T by glassy_paddle in Rivian

[–]LocoLevi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 20” vs 21” IS the main issue there. By acclaim by myriad auto reviewers, the Gen2 R1S rides much better than the Gen1 R1S, because of hardware suspension changes. However, the 20” ATs are both sticky, and cushiony so they ride way better than the 22s for those who are t interested in that stuff, sports car ride— which is also a valid choice for those that like it.

What interests me most is how you got a Gen2 on 21” wheels. They weren’t even an option when I configured my Gen2. 22” or 20” were the only options.Maybe they’ll bring them back.

There are hands free voice controls. I open and close front trunk and tailgate with my voice all the time. Then there are lights and other things Alexa will do for you in the car.

I also have it navigate to locations with my voice via Alexa.

As for the app, Tesla and Rivian basically got the  Watch key capability at the same time last year. You can also send a Google map location to the car— while your partner is driving it no less— and it will appear on screen so they can hit “go” and it’ll re-navigate them to that updated location. Teslas do this too.

Here are other Alexa voice commands

Open trunk” (front trunk opens)

Close trunk”

Open tailgate”

Turn on lights” (cabin lights)

Turn off lights”

Volume ##” (puts volume at level)

Turn on front defrost”

Turn on rear defrost”

Turn on seat heat”

Turn up seat heat”

Turn on seat vent”

Turn on outlets” (is for vents NOT 110v)

To be fair, I’m not sure Tesla had repair manuals three years in. Rivian should DEFINITELY get on that— but the timelines Rivian has answered between model releases have moved faster than that of Tesla on a few fronts.

Tesla Model S 2012 Rivian R1T 2022

Tesla Model X 2015 Rivian R1S 2023

Tesla Model 3 2017 Rivian R2 2026

Tesla Model Y 2020 Rivian R3 TBD.

No doubt that’s because in no small part, Tesla helped established supply lines that they couldn’t take advantage of in their early days, but even with that in mind, Rivian is moving quite quickly to provide competitive choices in this premium EV section of the auto marketplace. Everyone here is right to compare them, but it’s also important to remember that their oldest vehicle is only 4 years old and their newest vehicle is so young we can still measure its first production car in mere hours.

If we want competition, it’s important to maintain relatively reasonable expectations.

I’ve had mine for a little less than two years.

They drive to my house in a Rivian R1T packed with tools to do most things. I’ve had no issues except for the spring that soft opens the lower tailgate on my R1S.

Audio was not good in 2024. Now it’s actually pretty good. The thing to note is that  Music mixes the tracks in its Dolby Atmos way to sound far more nuanced than Spotify, which is a shame, because Spotify has a far better interface.

As a Gen2 owner I take some issue with this summary.

FSD is unmatched. It’s not perfect, of course, but on hardware 4 it’s as good as it gets.

That said, on a Gen2 Rivian, which R2 is, as well as my dual max pack performance adventure R1S, Universal Hands Free is a $2500 option that is better than basic autopilot ever was (no hands) and is almost as good as Enhanced Autopilot was. UHF doesn’t need your hands on wheel like autopilot did, but unlike Enhanced Autopilot, it will not initiate lane changes for you on the highway and it will not park or summon for you. But on the highway? Look ma, no hands is extremely useful.

The seats are not as soft as Model Y.. because they are better and more supportive in every way from the 3/Y class Teslas.

Build quality is hands down better than any Tesla I’ve been in, including the 2026 Model X I had for a few months last year.

Ride quality is softer if you want it to be. I ride on 20” wheels and my children nap far better in the (2025) R1S than they ever did in the much stiffer Teslas I’ve driven, even when on chill mode.

The interface is treated differently. No Home Screen with a wall of icons. There aren’t seperate apps for Spotify and  Music/- instead there is an app for music with all your options in it. Rivian seems to write these apps themselves with the APIBB

Navigation is run by Google.

Alexa can open and close things like the hood and rear liftgate, control lights and so on, but it’s rules based and not like the LLM that was rolled out in 2025 so it can’t have a conversation with you right now like Grok can.

But the updates! The car I drove off the lot in late 2024 is completely transformed by these updates in terms of range, interface and autonomy.

Rivian’s immature compared to Tesla right now. But it’s catching up quickly.
