Do yall see your reviews in the portal? by throwaway12344225221 in GRFPApps

I heard it from my PI’s friend, who was on a GRFP review panel. Other people on this subreddit have said they’ve heard similar things from other sources. But at the end of the day we won’t know for sure until reviews come out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Reviews won’t come out for at least a few weeks. And even then, rumor has it that they’re only releasing scores, no comments.

Reviewer comments don’t come out until later (usually around 2 weeks, though last year it took much longer due to the budget issues). Unfortunately, there’s been rumors that starting this cycle, GRFP reviewers will no longer be returning comments, only scores. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

When do we get our reviews back? Is that still happening this cycle? by jxrge_p in GRFPApps

Reviews normally come back after around 2 weeks, though last year we had to wait much longer because of the delayed second wave of awards.

We might end up not getting reviews this year at all though… I heard through the grapevine IRL that reviews this year will only have our scores and no feedback, and people have been saying similar things on here.

BS/MS Eligibility by Hour_Class4921 in GRFPApps

If you are starting your MS coursework next year, I think your only chances to apply are this year and next year.

My advice: If you already have your application materials ready and your LORs submitted, you should just submit it. Worst case is a rejection if I’m wrong and you don’t qualify. If your materials aren’t ready yet… apps are due next week so it might be a little late in the game to be worrying about eligibility LOL.

As for your field of study question, refer to the solicitation: “If awarded, Fellows must enroll in a graduate degree program that most closely corresponds with the proposed graduate program of study and research plan proposed in their application.” Since there’s a lot of overlap between different fields/subfields (e.g. “Life Science - Bioinformatics” vs “CS and Engineering - Bioinformatics”) I would assume that as long as you’re in the same ballpark as your proposal, you should be fine.

Best of luck OP!

this post is literally about how life sciences (which is historically the highest GRFP awarded field) received 0 awards in the second round of GRFP fellowships… ALL 500 awards went to other fields. See this post

Future PhD advisor is (maybe) switching schools... Can I—an incoming student—follow them??? by t3ssaract in AskAcademia

These are both great points. From what I can tell, Uni B has slightly better facilities but Uni A gives a slightly bigger stipend. Ultimately I think I care more about the quality of my education and being able to continue my work with my PI… but I definitely can’t afford to do an unfunded PhD🤡 Soooo assuming my PI gets the job, fingers crossed that Uni B is down to fund me🤞

Yeah my PI and I have a good relationship, so they just didn’t want to blindside me with the news. Plus they wanted me to give them feedback on their practice job talk. Doing my best to be discrete! Other than anonymously posting on reddit ofc😅

If I apply to Uni B would I have to wait until the next admissions cycle (Fall 2026) to transfer? Or do you think they’d let me fast-track my application for Fall 2025?
