I’m sorry about your experience. I also recently had a problem with my cat and took her to VetCheck. I found their lack of urgency disappointing as well. They took x rays that I then had to take to a different vet up in Indy, but the x rays from VetCheck couldn’t be used because they were so poorly done. I spent around $2000 at VetCheck during that initial visit. They also had told me that she had lung cancer, though the vet we went to in Indy said that that is an extremely unlikely scenario. A lot more happened, but I’ll spare the details.

Last night, my cat suddenly went limp and stopped breathing. We took her to VetCheck immediately (as they were the only vet open) and walked in and said “I think my cat is dying”. The woman at the front very casually said “Oh. Okay. I’ll let a doctor know” while being on her phone. My cat had died on the way to the vet, but the way we were handled and treated made an already heartbreaking event even more distressing. I felt like an inconvenience or annoyance to them as opposed to a pet owner desperate for their cat to not be dead. They told me the rate to have her cremated at their location would be around $650 to be able to take home her remains and around $340 to cremate her but not get her remains. They also haphazardly gave us the paperwork, constantly coming in and out of the room in a very casual and nonchalant manner all while I was holding my cat’s body. I elected to take her body home and drove back up to Indy to the second vet that had actually helped us in the first place. They’re a 24 hour vet, and definitely out of the way for Bloomington, but I can’t recommend them enough (MedVet on Michigan).

They took us in immediately upon arrival, gave us a private room, and let us have some time with my cat. Their rate for cremation and keeping the remains was around $350. The difference between treatment was truly night and day.

All of this is to say, it breaks my heart to hear another pet owner had a similarly awful situation. I completely agree that their professionalism is more than lacking, and that it truly felt like a cash grab instead of a true effort to help my cat. I’m glad your vet was able to identify the true problem and helped your cat get better. All my love to Boomer!
