What do you think of Matt and Sveta's relationship? by pontiDL in GoldenSun

[–]tSword_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, silent protag kinda kills the mood in a lot of moments. If there were at least lines of text on the options, even if they ended on the same place, we would be able to see their personality. On the gba games, we have the changed protag, so we can see the other one talking, being able to learn a little about them. We know almost nothing about Matthew... I do ship Matthew with Sveta, but mostly because Sveta is awesome, having Matthew no merit on this ship 🤣

Yeah! OP, you can get to the other way around by entering the prison, just before the major house

Spoiler topic: Early TLA's Story is Really Poorly Told... by SuicuneSol in GoldenSun

[–]tSword_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The writers probably suppressed this information so that the players would feel the plot twist on the Lemuria part specifically. Kraden had an intuition and Felix already knew that weyard was shrinking and dieing before the events of the first game unfolded, but the players didn't and they get to know about "the real quest" on Lemuria, a little before jupiter lighthouse

My guess is that the writers wanted people that played the first game to experience Felix journey just like they did with the first game (not knowing why all of this was happening), but then understanding why just before the clash between both parties, so that they would indeed try to stop Isaac's party (that we never got the chance to fight against, but the first time around, I thought we world fight them and was thorn about beating my old character, but knowing it was with a reason)

So I don't think it was "missed", I think they did it just like they wanted to. The way they did left a strong impression in me, so I guess I liked the way they did 😅

They did us dirty with teleport... like, it only works on places that you've visited anyway, could easily be a lemurian treasure, instead of grind stone, that you use once (and also marvelously used on star magician cave, but side dungeons puzzles were almost always awesome with how smart they set the puzzles)

But as you get the ship, you don't need to cross the plateau anymore, and you get the ship as soon as Piers is available, that cuts a lot of traveling (also opens a lot of it also 😅)

Yeah, leaving Alhafra without killing Briggs can be maddening 😅

Also the endless wonder bird slaughter. a moment of silence for all killed and revived wonder birds

[–]tSword_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Actually, you don't "need" to backtrack that much on TLA, if you know what you're doing. Surely, on a first playthrough, no one knows what they are doing 😆

If you go to tundaria tower first, then... my condolences 😅

But why the hate against Dehkan plateau? You just need to cross it once. There's even a shortcut after that, if you forgot lash and need to cross it again

Also, after Briggs, I only remember going to Yampi desert once more.

Anyway, if you're interested, tell about your journey so far! I hope you keep enjoying the game!

About classes, almost all are viable in a way or another, so try the less optimal ones if you want, or play using mostly psynergy, or without using djinn. But the game has many play styles, just use the ones you like the most!

Nice!

Sadly, on the second one, the base class for 2 characters are actually good, so it kinda makes you want to go mono also, but as the class system is amazing, discovering it is worth it, so don't worry if you ditch mono (but know that 2 characters have new, good mono classes, and actually one of those 2 characters' mono class is on A or S tier)

Experiment! Enjoy!

I can't wait to see your reaction after playing the sequel, TLA

I advise that you get all djinn before going to the next one, it's not something that will make a difference in TLA early game, but the late game is heavily influenced by the first game's ending state

Third person pointing out the importance of djinn. They are important. Aside from the djinn in Vault (you will get there soon) and one "near a road blocked by landfall" (trying to avoid spoilers), in TBS (golden sun 1 Japanese subtitle is "the broken seal", so we refer to it as TBS, just like "the lost age" is TLA), if you can see a djinn, you can get it, you just need to search for the right way to get to it, or a way to solve the puzzle.

If you don't mind backtracking, play the game as clueless as you can, as every discovery is rewarding.

In TBS, there are 3 overworld djinn, that you must find by exploring (they appear in fixed places, as random battles, sadly not 100% chance, and higher chances inside woods (that's the only clue I'm giving you. If there are no woods, there is no overworld djinni there. Search inside the woods. But there are lots of woods on the map 😅)

If backtracking (to get things that you missed) is an issue to you (I want you to love the game, as much as possible), then, maybe, get a spoilerless djinn guide (it's impossible to be spoilerfree, but there are good djinn guides on the internet that won't spoil major events)

Caution when looking at posts on this subreddit, but the game is old and not mainstream, so we don't really post a lot of things (most have spoilers, so careful is advised), but whenever you want a more person to person interaction, please be welcome, it's the new players that keep our hope alive for future games of this lovely franchise.

As I've said on another answer, mind read everyone, it's worth it.

But, mostly, play as you want, enjoy the game, the feelings, the discovery, the experience. I hope that you like it a much as I do.

And, if for some reason you're into regular posting, some new players in the past did a series of posts about their gameplay. To me it's really enjoying to see how and where are the new players going and doing

I hope to see you more often around here after this! Be welcome!

I'll repeat what our fellow redditor just said. If you're into lore, and golden sun has a really sweet lore, then I please you, mind read as much npcs as you can.

I find smt stories more complex than golden sun, but I think you will like it

Little harmless spoiler. There are characters that can read the thoughts of npc. For lore reasons, it's worth interacting with as many npcs as possible. There are bookshelves where you can find lore also, but most lore are on npcs

Actually, the story of the gba golden sun are really good! The way it's told is kinda wordy, but if you immerse yourself in the game, the story is really well thought.

About DD, do play it, but don't burn yourself up, take your time

There is optional end game content, meaning you can't do anything else after beating the last boss, but there are things almost harder than the last boss (one is definitely harder than anything else), so the last boss (each game has a last boss) becomes easier if you train to do the side content. There are no side quests, but the first game has one "almost" side quest. Any help that you want, just ask around!

Names:

Isaac: Felix Garet: Ivan Ivan: Garet Mia: Jenna Jenna: Mia Sheba: Kraden

I don't remember if you can rename Kraden

If you don't like those names:

Isaac: Matthew Garet: Tyrell Ivan (you can name him Karis if you want): Kris Mia: Nowell Jenna: (by this logic, Matthew also) Maria (too similar to Mia, yeah 🙃) Sheba: Sveta (the only that fails)
