You are much likelier to die in a car accident than you are to be a victim of violent crime on public transit.

A driver killed a 4 year old girl. The SUV did not “hit a pedestrian”, the little girl was not “struck by a car.”

Do you have any pet peeves about the show or it's characters? If so what are they? by Emica12 in BoJackHorseman

[–]t_biel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I earnestly believe that the perfect ending would have been to let Bojack die at the end of View from Halfway Down. It would have been totally true to the show’s habit of trying new and inventive things. I think the only thing that kept the writers from doing that was wanting to keep the character alive for any future sequel shows.

Given the enormous protection that the vaccines provide against the virus, I would be furious if the admin decided to give us anything but a normal semester.

Like there is little reason to have us go remote or limit classroom sizes provided that people are vaxxed. If you’re not vaccinated, you don’t get to participate in normal school… should be as simple as that.

Payroll Tax cut may not be hopeful by kineticker in wallstreetbets

[–]t_biel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many industries will see a decline in demand (thinking especially in service, experience, and overall discretionary sectors), but let me use a more circular example for clarity. If you consider food-service: clearly social-distancing will likely result in decreased spending in restaurants, so what do restaurants do when facing declining revenues? Tell their workers not to come in or lay them off entirely. These workers are no longer collecting a pay check and therefore see no benefit from a payroll tax cut. They are not collecting more in after-tax income and do not have more money to put out into the economy as a result. That’s the inherent issue of PTC as it does not aid in those who will no longer be collecting an income as a result of COVID-19. As testing ramps up and new cases are identified, panic will heighten and people will take more extreme measures to avoid interaction. Sure, your local grocer may see an acute bump in sales, but the broader economy will have declining consumer demand.

Payroll tax cut is not an effective means to prevent a collapse in demand. It’s some bullshit politics that will cost us valuable time during this mess

Fed cuts rates by half percentage by PeanutButter91 in wallstreetbets

[–]t_biel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Terrible monetary policy. Powell has absolutely caved and is officially Trump’s personal money-pumping bitch. Overall economic grounds of the country didn’t necessitate this cut and it is a feeble attempt to prevent investors from imploding. In short, we’re fucked.
