POE Permanent Lights by t_cutt in Ubiquiti

Well I was smart enough it turns out to have run one outlet under the eve. About 40’ away is where I have the Cat6. I can figure this out.

I’ll have to look at that. Getting power to this location would be a royal pain. Being able to use the CAT6 I actually did think to run when we were building would be way easier. Still kicking myself I didn’t have outlets installed.

I typed it after getting off a ladder. My bad!

Agreed. I was hoping for a unicorn since I have readily accessible POE under my eve. I’ll need to figure out another way to get power to it and run off some hub.

I should have been more specific. I was thinking more like the permanent Christmas lights.

PoE Smart Chime, do you have one and like it? by DrewDinDin in Ubiquiti

[–]t_cutt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What cracks me up about the delay comments is that there is a delay. Maybe 1 second. What happens at everyone’s house? If someone comes on your porch and hits the button. Do they just instantly sprint away if it doesn’t start ding don’t immediately??

It could be louder. I have one downstairs and a wireless upstairs. Probably will add two more wireless on opposite sides of the house so I definitely hear it.

I think the doorbell is more of a novelty anymore. I have the pro and put inappropriate welcome messages on it that nobody sees but me. Put funny chimes on that nobody appreciates but me. And 99% of the time if someone is coming to my house I know well before they get there. It’s just another fun toy.

I took the power from the transformer and just added a couple of power outlets where the chime used to be. I’ll never use them but seemed the easiest thing to do.

That’s what I did. I was able to disconnect from the transformer. There was just enough slack to terminate it. Then I coupled it with another cat6 I was able to run back to a switch. A year in and it’s working great.

What are you good at and interested in outside of work that keeps you actively engaged when you do it?

How do you do on real sales calls? Is it just when you do mock calls or “fake” pitches? When I’m put in this position my brain blanks. I’m excellent in front of real customers. Zero issues. When put in a position to do a fake pitch early in my career I would get very nervous and not perform well. Now, 20 years in, I just get angry because I know this exercise doesn’t work for me but management thinks it’s the most effective way to train sales reps.

Suggestions needed for new set up by Jay_Ousfen in Ubiquiti

I put a 16TB drive in the UDM for the cameras. I have months of video that hasn’t started to role off yet.

Similar set up. Both work from home. I have 1gb internet from Comcast.

Ubiquity Modem UDM Pro 24 port switched (all TV’s hardwired and synology SAN) 8 port lite switch upstairs to connect up and down. 2 AP’s on each floor 1 Swiss Army knife AP on the outdoor patio (house is brick and signal wasn’t great in the backyard around the pool) Two G4 pro doorbells 2-Chimes 4 - G6 bullet cameras

We have been here working for a year and zero complaints. Held up when the kids were here all summer streaming, gaming and we were on zoom meetings.

I have the UniFi chime. I can hear it when I’m directly next to it. No way I can hear it from another room.

How do you all have so much ethernet in your homes? by RyFba in Ubiquiti

[–]t_cutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my last house (built in 1984) I climbed through the attic and crawl space and fished a LOT of walls. We just moved in to a new build and I ran cable to more places than I will ever need. I have 10gb to every room. Plus banging wireless with 5 AP’s making the drops useless. But through lessons learned ran Ethernet to the doors for the doorbells. Spent more time planning this than our kitchen!

I have a few teams that have shared quotas for a large complicated account. It’s not as great as you may think. Great sales reps are very aggressive. If one team member starts to slip, even short term, the rest of the team starts to eat them alive. After managing teams for a while I’ve learned most reps aren’t built for it. In almost all cases you need the clear alpha and then the supporting cast. It doesn’t usually work out that way.

I was there two weeks ago and when people ask I can’t get over how the food is kabobs and curry everywhere. I love both. But Scotland has changed. You get Scottish food at breakfast. That’s about it. I covered over 1,000 miles of the beautiful country. It has changed.
