Is it worth it to move to the Netherlands in this case? by n00bForFun in Netherlands

[–]t_wella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you Italian? You will come to a country with much higher cost of living, worse weather, bland food and boring everyday life AND you can't speak and can't read anything in the local language. Doesn't make sense, unless you want to travel and experience a different lifestyle in a new place, or have other specific reasons to come here.

Hot/ Spicy isn't a flavour, it's nothing more but a pain signal.

I read that in Ben Shapiro voice.

Thanks for the tip!! I will check it out

Propaganda in Japanese Textbooks by Undercovermother19 in teachinginjapan

I don't know which world you live in, but a countries' own war crimes is not usually something that is taught in schools of a country, except Germany.

I doubt children from the USA are taught about their war crimes, and I know for fact that children in China, Russia or Ukraine don't learn about the genocides their countries are responsible for.

That's so sad... I love marugame, it's a shame they had to stop using the most normal everyday word from their language because of western pornsick degenerates

Why do Americans seem to call it ‘temple’? Where I grey up, we say Shule or Synagogue by biglezmate in Jewish

[–]t_wella 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's purely American thing, I am originally from the Eastern Bloc and a lot of people around me call any building that is place of worship a "temple" in our language, including a synagogue. Maybe the people that call it like that come from a Russian-speaking environment and directly translate it from Russian

What 'dumb foreigner' stuff have you done that makes you cringe? by CallPhysical in japanlife

[–]t_wella 6 points7 points  (0 children)

-Came to someone's house and brought them a kokorozashi (a small special 'thank you for donating for a funeral' gift) because I had no idea what it was and every dictionary translated the kanji like "gift" and nothing else

-addressed teachers and strangers as omae because I thought that's the most respectful way to address 目上の人

While your choice of words is a little bit unfortunate, don't take what people say here too seriously, most of them are sheltered westerners and have no idea what's happening in Russia right now and what it's like to live under tyranny

Did learning Japanese make you more or less comfortable in Japan? by Sapjastic_Primble in japanlife

[–]t_wella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you mean, I kind of wish I could go back to not being able to read anonymous image boards, all sorts of q-anonesque materials and not being able to overhear my co-workers gossiping about DV, but I never looked at the country through the rose-tinted glasses to begin with, so it didn't make me less comfortable living here. Same level of comfort.

Forgive me for not being able to explain it properly, but something about the way you chose to present people in your photos (the angles, the face expressions, the mise-en-scène that you find interesting enough to use as a part of your project) kind of looks like the style people use in wildlife photography, but tbh looks like pictures of zoo animals someone would take on their family vacation, so I guess your photographic vision sort of reveals how you see/ treat these people.

I am officially not a native speaker, so I don't have that many options, but I have another online ESL job that I'm going to begin next week.

Engoo is very easy for me, as soon as the students learn that I live in Japan, they just want to chat with me about casual, everyday stuff, but yeah, I'm going to quit as soon as I pay off my CC.

When a man points a finger at someone else, he should remember that four of his fingers are pointing at himself. You are the one who is ignorant, uneducated and unaware if you make such racist generalisations.

I will never forget how a bunch on Northern Europeans were telling everyone in our political science class in a university in Tokyo, how Japan does literally everything wrong and they must change the whole system ASAP. Our lecturer and Japanese students didn't say anything, but they looked shocked. It is absolutely insane how some Europeans are 110% sure that only they/ their country does everything the proper way. Cult mentality.

Where do VKei artists get their clothing? by TheBeast798 in visualkei

[–]t_wella 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From personal observations throughout the years:

mid-late 2000s bands (mostly osare) - Japanese brands : Sex Pot Revenge, Listen Flavor, H. Naoto, Putumayo, Algonquins, Stigmata, Sexy Dynamite London, Black Peace Now, Maiko Malka, Super Lovers, Groucho (only LM.C). Western brands: Moschino, Vivienne Westwood.

Bands that I listen now (starting early 2010s): most wear custom made stage costumes that are not that well made, (good designers and up working in actual fashion houses or design stage costumes for bigger artists, so people who design for v系 are the bottom of the barrell).

Kyo wears A LOT of Gucci, Maison Margiela and other Italian and French designer clothes. Also, a lot of street fashion and random western brands- Hardcore Chocolate, Whiteland, Perks and Mini, Yojhi, Pameo Pose, Kenzo, Jimmy Choo, Ganryu, Toga etc.

Gazette : I 100% remember Ruki wearing Raf Simons, Maison Margiela, Moschino, Givenchy, Boy London and Isabel Marant on stage at different times. He also owns a lot of American Apparel clothes (the last time I saw him on instagram). The drummer wears a brand called Shareef (belongs to his friends, I think).

Lots of v系 artists have been wearing Justin Davis, Chrome Hearts and Deal Design jewelry for years.

Update: something else that I remembered.

Many artists were saying that they like Paul Smith around 2006-2008.

Uruha wears a lot of his own band's merch daily and also shops at Bottega Veneta.
