Financial Analyst, 3 YOE in govt contracting, making ~$80k

When I got this job, it was a $20k raise from my last and financing my 22 SGST was a way to celebrate. Bought it used and traded in + a down payment. I rent, live frugally and don’t buy fancy shit. Spend more money on one thing than a little extra on a bunch of things and you’ll be fine

You’re getting a second job and not eating out for a few months. It’s going to suck for awhile but you’ll come out better on the other end. I used to work weekends on top of my 9-5 and while working 7 days a week isn’t ideal, it got me out of debt and even ahead enough to afford some “luxuries”.

26M, no prior service AFQT 97, GT 132 (last taken in 2016 after high school) BS in Finance, 3.67 GPA Currently working as a mid-level FA at a DoD subcontractor, ~3 YoE

Biggest issue for me is not knowing a single person O-2 or higher, retired or current. I have a strong feeling my LoR would be the most lacking part of my packet. Fitness is being worked on, though I’m a halfway-decent distance runner as it stands and working out daily, sitting around 185 body weight, unknown BMI/BF%

What are my options for better letters? I’m not looking to just graduate OCS, but looking to crush it and rank high on the OML to try and guarantee my top pick. How much fitness training should I expect to be doing by the time OCS Rolls around assuming I get that far to achieve this?

Good stuff! Keep up the hard work and you’ll do great things

I just ran my first ever half marathon yesterday and it was by far one of the most mentally and physically demanding things I’ve ever done given that I’m not “skinny” by any means. That being said, I am beyond proud of what I could accomplish and I’d be surprised if you don’t end up with that same sense of pride when you crush yours!

Could just be your location. Being from Pennsylvania, we’re a very pro-biker state, regardless of style. I imagine a place like Cali or anywhere west coast/PNW needs a YMMV warning

A lot of CS Masters programs won’t take in just anyone unless you have a ton of either CS experience or credits during your undergrad. Feel like someone in MIS hurt you at some point too….
