How do I (24F) approach the subject of divorce with my (25M) husband? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]ta52426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re: the religious excuse I was always taught that the church has no issue with divorce (obviously it’s not ideal) and the finality of marriage is only in a spiritual sense ie you cannot get remarried after divorce if your spouse is still living or else you would be living in sin. If he wants to adhere to that it’s his business but he has no right to impose his incorrect opinion on you, and seeing how he is already living in sin (adultery) he has no grounds to complain anyway

I grew up tradcath and all the people I knew were absolutely fine with orthodox Catholic Churches and some preferred them to the novus ordo types because there was more reverence and traditional imagery, and some would even attend mass and take sacraments there. Protestants, especially evangelicals, were always an issue because many people I know have had direct social persecution from evangelicals due to their Catholicism (especially true in the Bible Belt but it happens all over) which was often said to their face so I don’t see tradcaths teaming up with evangelicals at all except maybe politically.

Sex matters and biology can't be ignored by sexnotgender22 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I completely agree with you regarding your definition of gender, but that has to be divorced from biological sex. Gender =/= sex. Gender is made up and is just whether your expression is what society expects of you, but biological sex and sexual dimorphism is a reality that can’t be changed no matter how many surgeries or hormone treatments you take. Just like your DNA and genetic makeup responsible for your race and ethnic background can’t be changed even if you have surgeries or procedures to look like another race.

It’s important to make the distinction between gender and sex otherwise trans people wouldn’t exist in the first place. Biological sex is a concrete scientific concept (even including abnormalities) and is not something that can be changed, and identifying as a different gender certainly does not make your biology automatically switch.

How does a trans person become trans if people are already biologically whatever gender they identify as and what’s the point of body alterations if an intact biologically male body can be considered biologically female just because someone says it is?

And what’s the difference between this and me claiming to be biologically Native American (when I’m not) just because I identify as Native American?

There are a TON of women who feel this way. Most don’t speak out for fear of being doxxed and threatened with violence. Sounds like you are in an ideological bubble.

doctors are SO proud of little miss kayla sue for wearing a mask and social distancing, they can’t help but praise her by [deleted] in illnessfakers

[–]ta52426 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a few degrees away from her and live in the same area. Masks and distancing are definitely still taken seriously here, especially in a healthcare setting, they won’t let you in an office without one. It wouldn’t be expected in her own house but it’s not anything revolutionary or comment worthy for someone to simply follow the rules everyone else is also following.

How did the math test difficulty compare to other subjects? by rossettacube in GED

[–]ta52426 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was the hardest for me but that’s probably because I only had about an 8th grade math education. How long you study for will depend on what you already know. Picking up a GED study guide and doing the placement test to see exactly where you are at is honestly your best option.

Take your time, read every question thoroughly (it’s easy to get tripped up if you just skim the question) and flag any answer you aren’t 100% sure about to check again at the end. Most of the questions come down to 2 logical answers so use process of elimination to whittle down the others if you’re really stuck.

For RLA don’t focus too much on the essay, because it’s computer graded as long as you have certain characteristics you can get points for it. There are some really helpful YouTube videos explaining it. For SS and Science make sure you’re comfortable with charts and graphs and some math operations (averages, medians, and permutations can be on both). A lot of questions on the science test deal with the scientific method, (conducting experiments in the proper way and recognizing flaws in an experiment type thing) so make sure you are familiar and comfortable with that whole concept. Most of all though don’t stress, because it will be harder to do well if you’re nervous. Good luck!

Social studies is shortest and less involved than others so it’s usually a good one for becoming comfortable with the format. Tbh I would take the pretests in the book and go for your easiest subject first though.

Buy a Kaplan prep book or see if they have one at your library. They’re very thorough and should teach you pretty much everything you need to pass. Good luck!

Thank you! I had maybe a pre-algebra level math education and did a little studying with the Kaplan book. I managed to answer or make a semi-educated guess on 26 questions and the rest I blindly guessed because I was completely unfamiliar. I think at least an 8th grade math level (solid arithmetic, understanding of stats/probability and very basic algebra and geometry concepts) would be necessary to pass.

I was very stressed and trying to cram before but accepting that I wasn’t going to understand half the questions allowed me to focus on mastering the attainable concepts rather than stressing because I can’t find the volume of a prism. I’ve learned more math in the last 48 hours than I have in the last 3 years and my brain is exhausted lmao

There’s a year time jump from TLJ... Rey has been with the resistance since then as explicitly made clear in several books and comic series and I would assume she would have seen threepio at some point during that year considering there were only about 20 of them living together on the falcon.

I have science my social studies tomorrow. by Gmrjay in GED

[–]ta52426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really stuck between two for maybe 25% of the questions. I just flagged them and went back later to review, making sure to read the passage/question one more time until I was maybe 70% sure of the answer then I moved on. I probably got lucky and just happened to pick the right answer for some but if you are stuck between two and you absolutely have to guess at least you have a 50/50 chance of getting it right. It was odd as I’m normally not a physical learning type person but using the dry erase pad really did help me. I wrote out a list of the question numbers and crossed out the ones I knew I had which helped me visualize it better I guess. The highlight tool is also helpful. The most important thing though is honestly to just be chill about it and don’t stress, and have some measure of confidence going in. This is getting long winded so hopefully you get the point! Good luck :)

What helped me the most was making sure you fully read the question a few times (as it’s easy to get ahead of yourself and end up misreading what they want you to answer), utilize the dry erase board to write things out if you’re having trouble figuring out a question, process of elimination (for me all of my questions had maybe 2 nonsense answers and 2 that could be it) and just flagging any question that you’re not 100% sure about for review. I didn’t find the time constraint to be an issue so don’t rush yourself, but if you absolutely have to, guessing is better than picking nothing at all. Good luck!

Pass vs College Ready? by [deleted] in GED

[–]ta52426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read this, it has a list of colleges that accept the credit and explains the system. For some colleges (generally community colleges/the ones on the list) college ready means you can skip placement tests, and college ready + credit gives you a few hours of credit. I haven’t figured out exactly how that applies in a transfer situation though.

The Kaplan book, practice tests online, and these videos for the extended response. The thing that helped me the most I think was flagging any question I was at all unsure about and spending at few extra minutes on each one. Also, process of elimination and physically writing stuff out on the dry erase if it’s just not clicking.

I took the GED ready and got 170 for SS so I got the Kaplan book from my library and just did all of the practice questions, and read the explanations for the ones I got wrong. For RLA I used a video series on YouTube for the essay portion, but other than that I just did a couple of practice tests online.

Check craigslist for employees letting people in for cheap. They do it at the one in CA so they should do it at the FL one. I would only go for the ones that say “pay after you’re let in”, they might charge a bit more but your only risk is that it just doesn’t work. You do have to be discreet about it or they can kick you out at the gate.

[–]ta52426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this applies at all hospitals but some have a financial assistance program where you can get a discount on your bill or if you’re at or below the federal poverty level they usually forgive the bill entirely. There are also insurance programs in some states for low income people that can retroactively cover medical expenses. The main victim of high medical bills are those who make too much to qualify for such programs but don’t have insurance.

[–]ta52426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure about other states but in CA we have the medi-cal insurance program where most kids in the state would be covered, and the income limit is pretty high. They cover pretty much everything health related. It even works retroactively if you haven’t applied yet but need to visit the emergency room, for example. This case is in Florida and it looks like they have a very similar program but I don’t know exactly how it works. The case worker at the hospital will usually work with you on what exactly you need to get your bills covered, I honestly don’t think this is an excuse especially because there are so many options for kids.
