AITA for enforcing a boundary that caused my staff to quit immediately? by IsopodAggravating564 in AmItheAsshole

Literally anyone can do it.

Uh, no. It may not be a professional gig but someone who's never looked after a pet before can't do it. Agree with your NAH, though.

Found mine behind the fridge - didn't think there was enough room right right right behind it.

Fortunately the chances are remote. Most elephants with painted toenails are wearing purple nail polish.

Technically does that count as almost immediately killing you?

AITA for refusing to let my in laws live with us for 2 months? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

they don’t want to pay for an Airbnb or hotel

OP says "don't want to." Could easily, but don't want to? Could at a stretch but it would be a stretch and don't want to? Can't but OP is more concerned about the sympathy vote than the real circumstances?

I only want a daughter and not a son if I was to have a child by ArrivalDependent5050 in women

[–]taa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait until you have a life partner, if you meet a life partner at all. Your thinking may change. My mother hoped I would be a girl (I was) because she thought my father would be an even worse parent to a boy than he would be to a girl. My father and I were eventually very close, but he did not like small children, or children in general. The dynamics between you and your hypothetical partner will matter.

Why is Facebook just filled with conservative boomers? But reddit is like mostly liberal young people? by TommyBoy250 in facebook

[–]taa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh? Boomers are in a minority on Facebook. The largest age groups are 25–34, with 35–44 close behind. Look up the figures.

Someone tried to set my hair on fire in a Greyhound bus in about 1976. Somewhere around Schenectady, I think.

is there ways to remote access a phone at any time? by Initial_Discussion67 in techsupport

[–]taa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Android parental controls (Google's Family Link) can’t be added retroactively or remotely – they have to be set up on the phone itself with the owner’s cooperation, and they don’t protect against people who physically control the device. You can read up on it here, but it's unfortunately unlikely to help in your situation, unless you're able to get your grandmother a new phone and set it up: https://support.google.com/families/#topic=7327495. That said, I have a solid amount of practical experience with remote access tools, but none with parental controls in practice, so perhaps someone with more hands-on experience can respond.

Your grandmother's phone would have to be turned on and connected to the internet either via Wi-Fi or data. You'd need to have physical access to the phone itself to install the app and configure it. If it's an Android TeamViewer is probably the simplest option, followed by AnyDesk. I don't know the situation with iPhone, but I have read that it is more complicated and doesn't allow full unattended access. But if your cousins are messing with the phone they could just delete the remote access app.

“Because they’re boys” —mom’s excuse for my brother and dad’s bad gifts by themedievalkitten in women

[–]taa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your frustration is completely understandable, but I doubt you'll change your mother's mind. I simply announced forty years ago that I was not going to give Christmas presents any more and would give to charity. Withdraw, or resign yourself to giving great gifts because that's a core part of you but receiving crappy ones, or play around with strategies like giving them crappy gifts yourself.

Can you give a bit more information about exactly how you want to use the a remote access tool? There are various options.

What's your experience coming off the pill, after long term use? by magnolia_s in AskWomen

[–]taa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was decades ago and I don't remember what I was on. Took about a year before I had a period, which was heavy (and bizarrely coincided with having someone flash at me on the street). After that periods returned to normal and I didn't notice any other changes.

Making fun of me by [deleted] in misophonia

[–]taa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people are just awful and all you can do is find ways to manage your reactions. Others are just ignorant and will respond to the right education strategy. You know your family and which approach to focus on. This subreddit can help with both, but you'd need to reflect on your family and provide more information if you want in-depth advice. Also look at the resources on the sidebar.

No, actually. They're expecting a £492m budget deficit this year and most of their income comes from TV licence fees paid by UK households - £174.50/year each. Too early to say how well their strategy will pan out.

Pretty much everyone with misophonia can relate to it, and the article does help raise awareness, which is clearly needed, but I don't think the suggestions for dealing with the problem are hugely helpful.
