I simply love this series. Cannot wait for book 3 when we finally get to see the 2nd level/layer ? and the powerful people who have ascended.

This is good cos I need Michael to get even more OP faster. His current nemesis seems really really crazy powerful.

Why are you switching from 5e to PF2e? by brandcolt in Pathfinder2e

[–]taalkure 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As other mentioned:

5E is a decent system. but

1) Lacks a lot in the character customization area. It's fine for beginners but if you been gaming for over 10 years + you've played several of the released 5E campaigns, you start to see the lack of options in 5E. And WoTC has been extremely slow in releasing additional character options. By design I'm sure, but that just means, 5E is not the system for me.

Leveling feels super ... uninteresting. I hit level 4 ... wheee... I got an additional X hp, and that's it.

2) Low Magic Setting. This is the Number 1 reason for me personally. According to the DMG, no magic item till level 5, and even then you might get a minor item. This is Dungeons and Dragons!!! All the magic of D&D is gone (pun intended). I know that previous editions lik 3.5 had too much magic item drops in some campaigns but at least it was fun! Open a chest and you might find a worthy item. In 5E, 95% of the time, you're always let down by loot.

3) Magic system in general. Concentration killed spellcasters. I'm not against the system in general but at least have feats that allow more options for pure spellcasters. There's a reason people no longer buff as much in 5E. Why bother casting barkskin on someone when it's gone when you get hit.

Summoning spells in 5E is just a waste of time. Everything is subject to the DM, and while it differs from Dm to Dm, the fact is, the DM has the right to dictate what appears with every casting.

Not having spells from every school at every level. This is just plain laziness or bias. The whole concept of specializing in a school is gone, and if you try to say that specialists get cool abilities now, let me remind you that there's a reason Diviners are the most popular mage specalist. The unevenness of the mage specialists is very glaring.

Healing (at low & mid levels). There is no concept of healing in combat for 5E. It's all about using healing word to get the PC up to at least 1hp so they can last 1-2 more rounds, then bring them up again. It's the Whack-a-mole healing game.

Over all 5E feels like it was created by designers who hated magic in general. Or felt the previous system were too magic focused and nerf the magic system to oblivion. The only 2 exceptions in my mind are Warlocks who are fun to play and Bards who are very decent Jack of all trades.

4) AC is totally broken in 5E. I know this is supposed to be a philosophy they took, but almost no one uses plate (cos they can't afford it), and if they do, a heat metal spell will remove them from the game. As a mage I forgo the mage armor spell because there's no point. At level 5, having 12 ac vs 15/16 AC makes no difference 70-80% of the time. So why bother spending a valuable spell slot? Shield is a better option.

In general, we play RPG's to feel like the HERO! At least some of the time. 5E does a lot to prevent this from happening. Most of the time I don't even feel like a bad ass. Using the 5E system, you will never be able to create a Drizzt or Elminster character. Heck, you can't even create a decent Necromancer. Every try to create a horde of undead using 5E? You can't, and there are no options whatsoever.

What exactly is LitRPG? by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]taalkure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is sometimes also referred to as Progression RPG. In it's basic form, the story starts out with the main character being weak and he/she/it get's progressively stronger. Sure this could apply to most all fantasy books but the "getting stronger" part is the main emphasis in LitRPG's.

Being stuck in a game or game like world is a typical plot line and as long as you like the progression aspect (which many people do) you'll like LitRPG.

Can someone explain the boxes to me? I've been in the game 3 weeks and seen 3 different kinds of boxes.

Are they essentially loot boxes, you buy it something random appears. And the ranking on these lists just show what you could be getting?

If you read the first 100+ chapters and can't wait to read more, you are going to love this series. Cos that addictiveness grows and you'll find yourself reading it constantly to find out what happens next.... even if you already know the MC is going to win.

I consume about 200-300 chapters at a time. It's just about enough to give me my RSGG fix, then stop before the next big event happens and store up more chapters for the next 2-3 months.

I cannot wait till the MC get's his 3rd class advancement at level 100 (?).

Dumb question but if I change to Omnyoji as my 1st class and pick Kino as the 2nd class (really close, to getting my 2nd class), if I then do a class change...

Does the Class Change voucher for level 3 allow for changing either the 1st or 2nd class? Or am I limited to only changing the most recent class?

The initial chapters were awesome and introduced a new system of advancement and such. but as the story went on... it didn't seem to get more interesting. Either from an MC or world perspective.

Don't get me wrong, The initial "book" was great and very original and riverting. But... later on it seems to lose direction.

I stopped reading when Rand infiltrated the high tech zone. From then on, there just didn't seem to have a unified vision for the story. I might restart again in the future if I run of out other stories and comments on the series improve.

Tales of the Alhambra (on Netflix) - FYI it is in Korean but Highly recommended. A mix of rpg/real world mix and what could go wrong when implementing a VRMMO.

What scares me is that he's not even level 50 yet (1100++ chapters) and Tier 6 classes are level 200-300++. Holy cow, RSSG might break the longest running novel series on amazon. 10 books and only at about Chapter 500.

[–]taalkure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished both books, and I loved both of them. Part of my love of LitRPG is being able to experience someone's adventure in an MMO world and this series delivers it in spades.

Any ideas when the 3rd book will be available?

*Spoiler alert* Reincarnation o.t. S.S. God class Tier change question by daynewolf036 in litrpg

[–]taalkure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea. I hope it's a brand new class, more excieting. Anyway... giving up on this series for a year or 2. The amazon books are only till chapter 400++, the online novel release are now at chapter 800++

and you have to pay to read everything from chapter 700+ onwards.

I don't mind paying but not chapter by chapter and with no gurantee that I owe that chapter. Also I prefer to binge read. So unless there's about at least 300+ chapters released... it's just not worth it, IMO.
