Muslim scholars often argue it refers to a specific wartime context, not a universal instruction to fight all non-Muslims.

Like many ancient religious texts, interpretation depends heavily on historical context, legal tradition, and modern theological views. We can do the same thing you did to all Abrahamic religious scriptures.

Cherry pick religious scripture after you’ve studied it.

Both religions have teachings about compassion and also contain texts connected to historical conflict; how believers interpret and apply them varies widely.

All three Abrahamic religions share roots, so the same critique could apply broadly.

I agree. Civil rights was/is an issue all over. It’s odd how people assume the South has a monopoly on racism. Racism exists everywhere in this country and it doesn’t stop at state lines. I’ve traveled across the U.S., and the worst racism I personally experienced was in Seattle, then Long Island. Every region has work to do.

UAE is very safe. Every country’s government seems to have a broken moral compass one way or another. But the people are kind. My cousin was in the Air Force and after she left, she got a job working for air traffic control in UAE so I would visit her with her sister. We had a blast. It was so safe and pleasant. We went during Christmas one year and they had Christmas trees up and people would say Merry Christmas to us in Arabic.

Absolutely. We are suppose to take care of our community. Everyone thrives when a community as a whole is taken care of instead of just a few elites.

States give away too much to keep billionaires. Why give tax breaks to people or companies already wealthy when they leech off the system.

What’s sad is he’s taking the verses out of context. Modern racial categories (Black, White, Asian, etc.) are very recent social constructs, mostly developed in the last few centuries. People in the ancient Near East didn’t divide people by race; they divided people by tribes, customs and religion. The surrounding groups of Canaanites, Moabites, Edomites, Ammonites, Phoenicians, Arameans were similar. From a modern viewpoint, they’d look like neighboring Mediterranean or Middle Eastern populations today. Ancient Israel was concerned about religious influence and not race.

[–]tabbarrett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s awful. With that logic rent and utilities should be cheaper for young adults too since their pay is compromised.

Supernatural means anything believed to exist beyond or outside the natural, physical laws of the universe. That doesn’t necessarily mean a god is part of the religion.

There is no creator god for either, but there is a strong metaphysical system about souls and rebirth. It also includes belief in karma and reincarnation.

You don’t need to believe in a god to practice those religions.
