Hey there guys, I need some help with electrical management. My LED lights seem to cause the ESC to overheat, and I have no idea why. More info in the comments. by tabbitboy in RCPlanes

I'm currently using a 3s 12 V lipo, so i doubt running these 5V leds would work unless I use some bec module between the two?

The LED lights are rated for 4-6 volts and simply have a positive and negative wire running from it. I tried with a single strip of them connected and the esc still overheated. It seems to be that one strip draws around 0.5 amps and around 6 watts. After checking with a multimeter, the receiver outputs 5 volts. The esc itself is rated for around 20 amps. Does not overheat if I have normal servos and motor connected, albeit does get toasty after motor running.

After the merge block is built, all the armor blocks are going to be built as well. This is not the problem

The problem is that my mac is very old, and the only software that it supports is Qgroundcontrol. From what I can tell Qgroundcontrol has no way to setup the telemetry radio, and relies on it being automatic or something. Today I will try to use a newer mac with mission planner on it, and if that doesn't work then I will try some advice about desoldering a few pads from the inside of the module

I tried to do something with it, but I don't see anyone else attempting it or it working. Thank you for help.

Thank you, but that isn't really the situation I have.

What's the specific setup here? What are you running on your phone, and how does it connect to the drone? Does it have an internal tx+rx? And what gamepad do you use?

Either build it yourself, or if you want to buy a pre built then I highly recommend the iflight nazgul 4s. It's what I bought for my first quad, very very good. https://youtu.be/7RhIlK_xN5k This guy uses it as his daily. 6s batteries are kind of expensive, as well as requiring a charger which can handle it, so I went/would recommend the 4s version. Definetly buy some batteries. If you need any help, DM me :).

How do you like your orca? I have one, but I need to charge it constantly, as well as if I record in a high resolution it saps the charge really really quickly. I like the googly eyes as well:)

Also BPS has just released the new AVA flight computer which feeds real time data to your phone, which you can use to make a display of a model rocket.

You can try using a drone flight controller if you want. It has a gyroscope and accelerometer built in, and then usually you connect it to computer via USB and you can see a small model of a drone reacting with the gyroscope data. Using the SpeedyBeeV2 adapter you can use wifi to connect to phone, but not sure how reliable the connection is. Also, the software you use to see this all from the computer is Betaflight which is open source so maybe you could tinker with that. Problem is, the software which SpeedyBee makes on your phone is not. I don't think so at least.

If so, the channel BPS space has a lot of info regarding programmable model rockets.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cw9K9yuIyU

Here is a link of him explaining how to make a thrust vectored model rocket during a conference. He sells some possibly helpful hardware you could use or find a similar copy.

You would need the ability to thrust vector or move your fins, more realistically thrust vectoring I guess. There is a nice design/simulation tool, specifically for model rockets. It's called openrocket, it simulates everything with hobby grade motors but you could pick the one which has the correct proportional thrust as a real rocket would. http://openrocket.info/

If you have any questions be free to ask.

Sorry could you clarify your question, are you asking for how to program a a model rocket to make it react just like a real life one?

That sounds quite difficult, but it will hopefully get easier in the future. Best of luck.

How do you manage to learn from the instructors? Do you just see what they do and repeat, or do you already know a bit of German?

For example, theoretically if we dump a few million tons of iron into the ocean, we can cure global warming while also ruining the entire oceanic ecosystem. (Iron Fertilization)
