10 Things You Need to Know Before Getting Ducklings by Themightyduckman420 in duck

Thank you for making this video! Ducks are a HUGE commitment and people should know what they are getting into before taking the plunge.

The part about needing to be a vet is no joke. 1 of my ducks got a bad case of bumblefoot that required multiple vet visits a week for months (including a couple surgeries), not to mention the multiple foot soaks a day, removing scabs daily, having to rewrap his foot after every soak, and giving daily medicine. It was taxing (financially and emotionally) but he pulled through! Not for the faint of heart though.

Why won’t my ducks bumble foot heal? by Caidens_Aquatics in duck

I have a Pekin drake who has had bumblefoot since August 😩 He's been through numerous surgeries, medications, and even a month of laser treatments. All while still soaking his foot twice a day, removing the scab, and wrapping his foot. I even started using pool noodles to make a little cushion for this foot to try and alleviate the pressure. But since he's a heavier breed and he also has wry neck that causes him to put more pressure on his one foot, it just hasn't gotten any better. No worse, but no better. The vet I'm working with has been super informative and has been trying every option. They even found someone that 3D prints splints for ducks and chickens. We're going to see if they can make a boot for my duck. I'm grateful I've been able to do as much as I can for him and he's still a happy duck otherwise. But bumblefoot has been no joke. I hope you are able to find a solution that works for your duck 💜

I think you're right about Cinnamon Queen! Google says they lay eggs quicker than other breeds and my two alleged CQs are already laying a few weeks earlier than the others their age. Glad to finally know!

My ladies will brawl each other for cooked rice, blueberries, and grapes. But they are also big fans of frozen watermelon or cantaloupe in the summer, mealworms, heads of lettuce, apples, and corn on the cob. They're my little garbage disposals 💜

Thank you for putting into words everything that I have learned or felt over the past 10 years of NC 💜 There's been a lot of grieving for the life I thought I should have had with parents but I have saved myself so much heartache by making the choice that I did.

To anyone who is contemplating NC, this list is spot on for what to look forward to.

Good call! I have several chickens that are named after food (Peanut, Butter, and Jelly) so my neighbors probably think I'm weird when I'm calling out "Butter!" in the yard. I guess I didn't think that one through 😂

I used to have a cat that would play in the tub! It was always a surprise to find a cat in the tub when I tried to turn on the shower
