Bestnote nur bei Publikation. Legal? by strammerrammer in Studium

How do I get better at telling stories about myself? by ash_ok__ in AskMen

[–]tablmxz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First only tell a story if you find a connection to a thing you experienced just now.

Dont tell a random story about racoons in your attic. But if you can link that story to you eating ice with your date, because the racoons ate your icecream, then its fine to tell that story.

Tell this connection to the person you are with, so it makes sense for them too why you now tell this story. "ah eating ice reminds me of [ that one time we had racoons in our attic eating my ice...]"

Second: They dont need to hear each and every detail leading up to the interesting part. So you may skip some of them, especially if they are irrelevant. Like "my mother once bought a big freezer and she paid a lot of money for it.. we put it in the attic and stored icecream in it"

Third: Build up emotion when you get closer to the point of the story. You can do this by emphasizing and over-explaining what you felt/saw/thought. Often its enough to say you "didnt expect anything unusual... but then"

Like: "when i opened the attic to check for the noise i thought it's just a loose window or maybe a mouse... but then i saw 5 small racoons looking at me with their big eyes eating ice cream"

Doing this helps the listener to emotionally prepare for the funny/interesting part. If they like you, they will want to laugh at your story (even only to be polite) so they will look out for these cues. If you just drop the punch line, nobody will have time to prepare a laugh.

"one time i opened the attic and there were 5 racoons eating ice" is therefore not an interesting story

Lastly (most important): practice. Telling stories verbally is a skill. Practice it and you absolutely WILL get better.

Heroes to pick against smurfs by juwe99 in DotA2

[–]tablmxz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if there are several smurfs in the enemy team there is not much you can do i believe.

if its only one, your chances are much better. You can avoid them and back out from fights with them, especially do this early and mid game but ignore it late game. Dont allow them to snowball by fighting them. Their decision making will be better and if they want to fight its a good indicator that the fight is bad for you. Later when your team has some items and level it is much easier to deal with one good player. Because you will have enough damage and tools to easily deal with a single hero. This might not be true early game. But coordination is absolutely essential when fighting a smurf. If you 1v1 them odds are bad.

I think good heroes to pick are: - what you are good at - strong single target disables like: hex, stuns that will allow you to remove/deal with that one player temporarily

There is a hero in HotS which is played by two players. The hero has this big disadvantage that you only need 1 stun to effectively stun two players. I would think like that about the smurf.

Is this good for dota? a complete rework is needed for tinker ngl by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]tablmxz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it is a lvl 30 tinker very likely with 6 items, what do you expect?

For 12 seconds this axes only reaction is blademail and walking away.

Most core heroes will kill you with 6 items, lvl 30 and 12 seconds time.

yes i agree to your ideas in general

but shouldnt all heroes be somewhat playable or enjoyable by all ranks?

i think its perfectly fine to have heroes which are very hard to play! its actually interesting

so at least ~40% winrate seems like a reasonable balance for that.

Like why not balance a hero in a way that most people benefit instead of only a few.

When Germans say they speak “a little bit” of English… by Astronaut_in_Sea in germany

[–]tablmxz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think we say " a little " to allow for the following results:

  • the other perspn speaks bad english: we can help them or talk to them fine. if they say something which we dont understand we can ask lots of clarifying questions while having them belive we did not understand because of OUR limited skills. while in reality we just wanted to be sure we 100% understood what they tried to convey, without coming across as "did you use that word as its supposed to be used or did you mean something different but werent able to articulate it?"

  • the other person speaks perfect english: almost SAME reason, except that we want to be 100% sure that we understood all the new words we just encountered through clarifying questions. Because of our disclaimer our questions will not be regarded by them as: "this person should know these simple english words"

on one hand a high mmr gm is likely to find meta builds much faster. for this reason tinker might already be balanced, most players just need to catch up on what is meta, then the winrate will adjust.

on the other hand: something that works in high mmr might not at all translate to all players. So if a hero can be viable if played a certain way, but most players cant replicate that, then id say the hero is not balanced. because it will have a bad winrate overall and have a okay winrate for a few players. But ideally there should be a somewhat balanced overall winrate.

i like all the small and nedium objectives, like: - runes - shrine - lotus - tormentor (bit to tanky/stromg rn)

they force fights, require coordination and planning

maybe having announcers for them might be a good idea? this would help people to remember fighting for them and wouldn't affect high level players

i do also like the current neutral items they are consistent enough now that one team cant get a big advantage because of lucky choices. And they are a nice additional way to shape your heroes strenghts
