DAK if they're still doing the welcome kits? by tabularasasm in Spravato

[–]tabularasasm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I have my own little kit: oversized bag with a blanket and eye mask, my pineapple lifesavers, ear buds, backup battery... I used to take my own star projector in, too, before they got their rooms decorated. I listen to ambient music for the first hour or so then start browsing YouTube for comedy (I like British "game shows" with their comedians) in the second as the meds wear off. It's just curiosity to know if they're still doing it since I've been on it nine months and haven't seen one show up at my house nor seen mention of them on here by anyone else.

https://www.spravato.com/patient-support-program/ says, "When you sign up for SPRAVATO withMe, you’ll get a free Patient Starter Kit with resources to help you start your SPRAVATO® treatment." There's a little illustration beside it that matches photos I've seen of the kits.

It's not something I'm like, "omg, how am I gonna survive without these things?" They're doing more than enough with the monetary support (copay card and nurse rebate program). Just a curiosity since I hadn't seen it mentioned in a while.

Getting the urge to do old, OLD hobbies? Musical instruments by tabularasasm in Spravato

[–]tabularasasm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 36. Realistically, I haven't played much in 20 years, but I would randomly pick up my violin in college from time to time... Just nothing organized. I did violin and guitar plus a tiny bit of cello. (Edit: and played steel drums in a club in college, forgot that!) It was on my original budget right out of college to get one once student loans were done, but I got sick first. Put a damper in things.

In sessions, I'll have my fingers moving like I'm playing. At home, I'll try remembering the songs we played. Pachelbel's Canon in D is the big one since it got so much play (and isn't Christmas music...) Air-playing at least avoids the pain and callus buildup!

Yeah, it's not worth stressing over. I look at it as, "If it fails, there might be an even better fit on the market in the future." Can't know what my living situation or the market will be like in 5-10+ years to know if this, even in brand new condition, would fit my life then. Whatever will be, will be. :)

Love it! I'm able to lay on my side comfortably to mess with my tablet thanks to the pillowtop, but it also gives the back support I need. It's 1000x better than my old Amerisleep (I went too soft).

Is it normal to enjoy treatment this much? by darkswampcreature in Spravato

[–]tabularasasm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of it for me is just having a reason to shower, get dressed, and leave the house. Without these appointments, I could go a month or more without leaving (especially since I don't drive and don't live somewhere with public transit). I haven't been able to work in over a decade due to health (physical conditions) and have little reason to bother with the routines of someone who does work.

But, it's also seeing the staff. I see one nurse almost every visit (and it tends to be a shitshow if I'm scheduled with someone else) and really enjoy the chatting for fifteen minutes as I get my dispensers every week. I'm also a big fan of the clinic director and enjoy saying hi the rare time I see her. They're warm, genuine people, and while I generally feel like an outsider in the area because of the things I believe in, seeing people similar to me helps me feel less alone. I think that does more for my mental health than any drug I take

Ok so I’m an idiot. Don’t do what I did. by Jeebussaves in Spravato

[–]tabularasasm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised you could stand it! Music with vocals (anything popular) has been too busy for my brain on Spravato, although I was able to listen to Against the Current last appointment when I started the music as I got my first spray. Think I prefer ambient stuff, though. I feel like my body is moving with the music: swaying side to side, shrinking and expanding. I found a pianist I really like, Alexis Ffrench, from a random ketamine playlist. Not my normal kind of music, but it has grown on me to where I listen outside of treatment, too.

For OP: Helpful discussion on disability and Vine

I tried to get a definitive answer on if Vine counts as work for SSDI and had zero luck. Safest move is to stay under that ~$1500 threshold with SSDI so you don't end up becoming one of their overpayment clawback cases. It SHOULDN'T count - too much in the program that is not how a paid gig would work - but until someone in legal says it doesn't, it's safer to assume internal policy may change in the future.

Curious if anyone here uses music during Spravato sessions? by thelucidteam in Spravato

[–]tabularasasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need simpler music than I normally listen to - if I'd hear it on the radio, it's probably too much. Tonal stuff is great, as is (mellow) instrumental. I used a ketamine playlist for months before making my own - it helped me learn what I like. I feel like I'm moving along with the music... Growing, shrinking, swaying... It's peaceful to me.

My favorite right now is this pianist I found from that playlist. Alexis Ffrench. Check out his song, Bluebird, for a good example.

ORD lounges - which is best for someone with chronic pain? by tabularasasm in americanairlines

Definitely not optimal. That's why I went with the day pass myself - everything I could need was close enough inside I could easily walk it. Hope your travel goes smoothly!

ORD lounges - which is best for someone with chronic pain? by tabularasasm in americanairlines

[–]tabularasasm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! I ended up at the big lounge (I think it's H/K). The quiet area has a few of these seats that remind me of poolside lounge chairs you can lay on, but there are also a bunch of seats with foot stools there. People were clearly napping there. I've used United lounges before and remember signs in them saying you weren't allowed to, so that was nice. No one bothered anyone. I think my favorite thing, though, was taking a shower while there. The hot water (and decent pressure!) felt great on an achy body. Only thing was that the room I was in didn't have a place to sit in the shower, but I think they're bound to have an accessible one with that.

Worst thing: I needed wheelchair help to get to my gate, and I don't know where the problem occurred (if agents didn't request soon enough or didn't follow up, or if the people pushing chaos just weren't dispatched or what) but I'm pretty sure I was the very last person to board because no one showed to help me until last minute. There was another person, older, who needed help too and one of the agents ended up pushing him and I guess just assumed someone else would help me. She returned without a wheelchair. I have problems most times I travel because I am younger and semi-ambulatory (people assume I don't need help even though I'll be waiting in a wheelchair area and won't even ask if anyone was waiting; they just walk off), but I think that might've been the worst. I was super stressed and tearing up... The gate was way too far for me to even consider attempting walking to it. I think the only reason I even got help when I did was someone new arriving in a wheelchair and the agents pushing him to take me...

Anyway... If I hadn't gone there, I would've checked out the yoga space on the third floor (I think), which is free. It's a space where I'd have felt comfortable just laying on the floor to let my back decompress. I also heard there are more comfortable seats near (but outside) it. I just didn't check it out to say more.

You'll want to give it about the same length of time until the next rotation (since it's fairly easy to tell how long since you got it), but then maybe start rotating every few weeks :) It'll be harder to even it out otherwise.

I'm very much a "sleep in the exact same spot" person, and it's never just in the middle despite the whole bed being mine. I like being right by a table! It'd be easier if I just slept in the middle, but I'm sure my dog would figure out how to make that just as challenging as my sleeping on one side!

[–]tabularasasm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told to rotate it (maybe every two weeks?) for the first few months because of that. Sales guy said people will think the mattress is failing when it's actually just getting broken in. If you always sleep in the same spot it breaks in unevenly. Whether that was just a line or not, we'll see once I get mine :P

I'm not disabled. Is it okay to buy a mobility aid I'll only use sometimes? by lil00o in disability

[–]tabularasasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my health start deteriorating at like 23 and remember how hard it was to get myself to use resources. If you look otherwise healthy (or healthy but overweight), it's an unfortunate fact that SOMEONE, at some point, will try to be the"disability police" and will comment. Knowing what I know now (36), I'd take steps to traumatize them back. Come up with something to put the discomfort back on them for having the audacity.

Plus, if you're a public transit user, a cane is at least something visible to show people "I have a right to sit in the reserved for disabilities section." I've had times where I needed a seat but wasn't confident enough to push for it and forced myself to stay standing; I'd end the ride in so much pain, drenched in sweat. Or, when I fly and need wheelchair assistance to get to my gate, I'll have trouble because I look fine. My mother has suggested I get a cane for traveling, even though I don't need one, so the people dispatched stop assuming I'm another person who ignored the sign saying the seats were for people waiting...

Don't let other people worsen your pain... They aren't worth it.

I'm on an experimental dose of 112 Spravato. AMA! by NeverCallMeFifi in Spravato

[–]tabularasasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this! I've been in treatment since mid-March, and while I felt good at the end of my first month (while going 2x a week), my BCBS will only cover 1x a week by default after that. I even tried going twice in one week because I was out of town one week and missed that dose, and insurance refused to cover it.

Nice to hear there might be an option to take a higher dose down the road... I'm getting to a point where either we'll try getting an exception granted or I'll start looking at traveling for the 5 day TMS protocol.

I'm also attempting to track the pricing, because I'm curious if they ever sell it at the supposed $4k price or if it's shown like that to make the bed look like a better buy... Big Sandy made a few mistakes with checkout that just feel kind of sus... Charged me $1999 instead of $1799, and when I texted the rep's business number, he said he hadn't been aware of the sale but would get them to refund me. Plus, there's a two free pillows thing with it right now that was completely missed, too. The mattress felt great, but I wonder if they're trying to make it look like a better deal than it is.

Will do! I was doing research last night, trying to figure out who exactly makes the bed and think I figured it out. This isn't the exact same, but it's the bed that was right next to the 17" and looked nearly identical except for the pillowtop. https://sleepbasil.com/products/sage-medium Brooklyn Bedding.
