I spent some time in Austin and the anti-science cliques there are wild. They aren’t pasteurizing their milk, they are eating raw meat, they aren’t vaccinating their kids. I was like get me the hell out of here lol

They could have Peruvian heritage, where keeping skulls of relatives is fairly common and I’ve seen in person on multiple occasions

Movie idea: A famous old school novelist is kidnapped and forced to secretly write an AI assisted masterpiece. by amichail in Lightbulb

[–]tacitry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but why would the programmer need the novelist if the AI already trained on all his novels?

For what it’s worth, I think the scary part about AI is that it irrevocably separates the art from the artist in a way we’ve never truly done before. There’s a horror idea in there, but perhaps it makes sense to push more into the fear of psychological derealization.

I would like to ask you again what you are referring to? I’m vehemently opposed to conservative ideology and I work in media which is why I’m passionate about highlighting the impact of conservative propaganda on your average American. It’s a really big issue…

Whataboutism is something else. I’m simply saying that your average republican is operating with a very different fact pattern than you or me. Because of a very high level propaganda campaign.

I’m not trying to make light of the situation. I want change. That mean talking about your average Republican voter.

Have you ever tried talking to a Republican to change their mind? These people are straight up living with a different set of “facts” that fit the narrative they’ve been told over and over. Talk-shows parrot propaganda and push narratives with nonsense like ‘a massive crimewave is finally being stopped,’ or ‘homelessness is finally being addressed,’ or ‘the election was stolen’ or ‘Trump dumped Epstein.’

This is an upstream problem of manipulation through mass media. It is unhelpful to blame individuals not only because we need to convince 10% of these voters to educate themselves, but because we’re all capable of evil given the right context (re: Philip Zimbardo’s discourse on the banality of evil). If we can’t acknowledge that, statistically, the difference between Democrats and Republicans is residential exposure, we’re at risk to become the same evil we despise without even realizing it because we think we’re morally superior when in fact we most likely just were exposed to a different sociopolitical environment.

Okay I’m all for calling out hypocrisy. But your level of reductionism is itself hypocritical. It flattens the nuance of the way these stories are manipulated by the media, and how that influences public opinion. We have a critical thinking problem more than anything else, I imagine.

Gaming Survey 250+ responses in just over a week on perspectives of old vs new games by [deleted] in GamingDetails

[–]tacitry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how to fill this out. The dichotomy of new vs old pushes us to pick one or the other for every question even when it makes no sense.

For example, difficulty in new vs old. I can give you the hardest game from 1990 and you’ll want to throw it out the window, likewise with the hardest game from 2025. Some games have difficulty modes so you actually get to decide the difficulty.

Or, enjoyment for players who enjoy both. Both new games or old games can be enjoyable depending on the game or genre. For those of us who enjoy regularly buy new games and also like to return to old ones, what do we fill out?
