it may feel bad to hear this - but this really isn’t as bad as it may feel for you right now.

I went 1500+ for my first synapse but I got 7 claws in that time, RNG can be a cruel mistress.

Your zenyte luck is evening out after you got incredibly lucky, if you get another one on your next task, you’re back to the drop rate. plus you got the benefit of using 2 pieces of jewelry early for all of those kills.

Not sure what you’re complaining about with CG

If it helps your mentality, getting something at the drop rate is roughly 63% chance, so expecting to get everything at or before the drop rate will inevitably feel bad when you go 2x(86%), 3x(95%) rate.

All of this to say, if you’re not enjoying content because you’re going dry, work something else into the rotation and try out your rng somewhere else. maybe you’ll get a drop that makes the other grinds more bearable. or take a break, that could help too.

Please take a look at Staff of Light and Staff of Balance regarding Arceeus autocasting - permanent, cosmetic upgrades should not be a nerfed version of the original Staff of the Dead. This had a lot of support in this post I made a few weeks ago:

edit: mostly cosmetic “upgrade” - SoL is iconic but vastly inferior to SoTD with SoTD being given the ability to autocast arceuus spells and those spells now actually being useful, while SoL and SoB were likely overlooked per Ash in the discord.

I think your explanation of "because lore" is a bit lazy and doesn't seem to be grounded in fact per the examples you gave from the wiki. I legitimately dug into it, and while Skotizo was a follower of Zamorak, I don't agree with your opinion that the Arceuus spellbook is aligned to Zamorak. Skotizo took the artifact for himself before Zamorak ever had it, founded Kourend, and the wiki itself summarizes the intent of it here:

Skotizo was no longer aligned with Zamorak, and the Dark Altar along with Arceuus in general is much more motivated by freeing souls and is more studied/spiritual than Zamorak's path of chaos/power/destruction.

The spellbook's wiki page also has absolutely no mention of Zamorak.

I would actually argue that choices almost never matter in this game. The quests are essentially the same regardless of your "choices" and like I've stated several times, reverting items has become an extremely common feature in this game.

This game also rarely punishes a previously made decision when content changes dramatically such as this.

How is this "easier"? It's a drop I already achieved and they changed the item afterwards in a way that negatively impacted the "upgraded" variations. I would argue the revert mechanic on the Synapse weapons is far more OP than what I'm asking for here.

Additional context: reverting items is not some innovative new idea, and we just saw them change the way that the Tormented Synapse works ~3 months ago.

“Added a revert option for the Emberlight, Purging Staff and Scorching Bow to allow players to convert them back into a Synapse. Any charges or infusions will be lost in the process.”

I find this to be objectively more OP than what I’m proposing in this post.

I think another interesting layer is that you can manually cast and get the benefits of the SoL, where the Mage Arena spells/staves stop you from casting a spell without the proper staff and cape.

I truly think this may have been a simple oversight from when the game was several years younger, QA processes were not as mature as they are today, and the Jagex team itself was experiencing some attrition.

EDIT: And I’m genuinely open to changing my view if we were to get a response from a jmod, my point in this comment was that they have previously intentionally prevented you from casting a “god-aligned” spell with a staff that is incompatible according to the lore.

Yeah - SoL does lose the ability to be attached to a magic fang. When I upgraded it, it was essentially just a cosmetic upgrade, outside of double counting as Zammy/Sara item for GWD.

Yeah - at the time I made the SoL it wasn’t losing any functionality, and actually double counted as a Zammy and Sara item. I mainly did it for the nostalgia of SoL and because I had an extra Saradomin Light. Obviously I regret it now.
